Gates that open, what a luxury. On dad’s farm you were lucky to have one hinge attached, so brute force was needed while wading through deep sticky clay. Do I miss Wales NO.

Hi Stu I used 150g Siera gamekings for years in my .308 until I had one bounce off a pigs ribs at 20m using the Hornady SP now just a little bit harder and cheaper to boot. Nice video again good to see your changing it up and keeping it interesting.

Wow, there ya go. I was given the gamekings from a mate but this batch did ok.

The sieras just explode pigs but admittedly my pig had nearly 2 inches of mud on it not uncommon as you know I took a bunch of photos and wrote a story for SSAA mag the $200.00 I got was a real bonus you should do the same shooting out of your kayak is rather unique.

could you explain why you chose the 30.06 calibre please.... love your hunting clips
@HuntingwithStu
@HuntingwithStu 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate I chose the 30/06 for it's knockdown power but also due to the 30 cal bullets as I like to reload so it gives me a wide choice of projectiles.

Hey Stu. Mind making a video on your reloading gear and regular loads? I notice you also done seem to pick up your spend brass. Too much adrenaline makes you forget?

Yes I have done a little intro on one of my clips reloading before a hunt. Yes sometimes the action is fast and I flick out the brass, ha.

Finally found the vid with the reloading at the start. Mind you it was fun watching them all til I found it. I went off the soft points as the lead top would deform in the mag from recoil. Do you get that? Used hollow points - in the close scrub I used to shoot in (Pilliga Scrub) the 130 gn hollow points went really well. For the longer shots they probably slow down & drop a bit quicker but once I figured out the drop at 300 it was fine. Zero at 200 like I said before somewhere. Those plastic tipped projectiles they have now solve the deformation problem and keep them streamlined too. A mate of mine used 30-06. Sure worked well but I felt 308 was plenty and reloading was a bit cheaper. 30-06 sure suits the longer ranges you get out in the more open country. One other question - how many reloads do you get from the brass? I only tried 3. Generally on the fourth the case would split near the heads. My 30 - 06 mate only got a couple of reloads out of each case, and he was always looking for for that tell-tale ring around the case near the head that appears when they are close to splitting. Sorry to rave on, but I love reloading....and very interested in your experiences and comparing.
@HuntingwithStu
@HuntingwithStu 5 жыл бұрын
Ha good stuff mate, I knew it was there somewhere. Yes the lead tops do deform sometimes but I think by the time they fly out the barrel they are good again to a degree due to the pressure from the speed and all other influences before hitting the target. I rarely shoot past 200m so yes the 308 does everything that a 30/06 does. I reckon I get approx 3 to 5 reloads as I tend to flick out a far amount of brass in the heat of the moment which means that I replenish my stock with the odd pack of factory ammo throughout the year. I also reload well under the max load recommendation and sit in the middle of minimum and max loads. This is a safe option for me and I get just as good performance out of my rounds as well.
@Browneye2566
@Browneye2566 5 жыл бұрын
@@HuntingwithStu Same as me Stu - I back off a good bit from full loads. Seems to help accuracy which is more important than speed for me, and makes sure pressure is still OK on the very hot days. I always check primers for signs of pressure and it's kept me safe so far. Also on other things - see all kinds of wildlife in the vids but never an emu yet. Where are they hiding? And there can't be many burrs out there. I see you in bare feet sometimes and all I can think of is pain. Most places I went they'd even get me through thongs.
@HuntingwithStu
@HuntingwithStu 5 жыл бұрын
Yes there are emus all over the place. There are some in my clips not sure which ones. I actually chase some for the footage. Yes there are burrs etc but I tend to stick to game trails when I'm wearing my crocs.

Yes mate, I tend to stick with the 150grn projectiles as they fly straighter for longer. The heavy 180grners tend to drop and are slow on running shots.

@HuntingwithStu
@HuntingwithStu 6 жыл бұрын
You don't save much but I like to know that 100 rounds are exactly the same. If I buy factory ammo I tend to buy in lots of 20 so after a while I have an assortment of different loaded ammo. I enjoy reloading as well as I hope that every round will end up through a pig.

Wouldn’t a 180 or even a 220 grain do better on a pig because it doesn’t go straight through but delivers large amounts of kinetic energy on target without as much energy lost on over penetration + wouldn’t it be better in the thick cover but that’s just my thought
@HuntingwithStu
@HuntingwithStu 6 жыл бұрын
You would think so but my huntin buddy uses 180 grns and often needs a second shot. I have heard that even lighter like 130grn are great as they hit hard n fast n blow up inside.
@nickers1889
@nickers1889 6 жыл бұрын
Brycen Baumbach the light bullets often just explode inside the pig and release all their energy and the pig will most likely drop but with a heavier bullet it has more mass so it doesn’t come apart as easily and it will just pass through they both will kill a pig you might just have to track. And heavier bullets do go through brush better
@HuntingwithStu
@HuntingwithStu 6 жыл бұрын
Yes mate there is an unending debate over speed or weight. In the end I tend to aim when possible to the vital areas so that a pig goes down as fast as possible.
