I live in Switzerland and thinking of buying a Pinzgauer. In Austria do you have a 1-5 pollution rating for your Pinzgauer as we have in Switzerland? My RAV 4 is rated #1. If so which rating is your Pinzgauer? If anyone in Switzerland has a Pinzgauer can you answer this question also?
@gmcevoy
@gmcevoy Жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. I really hope someone can answer this for you. I will pin your comment to the top so that it is seen. In Belgium, it is considered a classic vehicle with only occasional, recreational use. Therefore it is exempt of these ratings because they cover such small mileages that pollution is negligible.

One of the perks of having such high ground clearance. On the other hand, jobs that require lifting the wheels off the ground are somewhat of a chore. My floor jack barely supports the weight (this thing tips the scale at over three tons!), and I have to support it on wooden blocks. Not the best setup at all... I am looking for a decent bottle jack right now, as I have to service the brakes once again. There will definitely be more of this lovable beast. I have found an awesome trail to try out, but I need to fit new tyres first... I hope all is well with you, Darren. All the best!

@@Mr_Dia-Tribe I am truly sorry for your loss, my friend. My most sincere condolences. I lost my father to cancer last year... About crypto-currency, I have heard of the idea, and decided to stay away from it. I have little to speculate with in the first place, and couldn't afford even the slightest loss. I have little to no understanding of how financial systems work, too. The only assets I have are in my hands and head, and hopefully this KZfaq channel which you have been following pretty much since the beginning will turn out to be a viable source of income (through Patreon). I have the feeling that I am taking a big enough risk with that, and I would be scared sh*tless to start investing in the crypto-market. There are experts out there who will certainly be able to help you spot the right ones to buy at the right time. All I know is how to tune a carburetter by ear, come up with solutions to make the Traxxas TRX-4 even more awesome than it already is, and sharing the lot with the world. I am a bit of a risk-taker myself being self-employed and all, but not so much as to speculate in the stock market. I am sure that you are a doing so sensibly, let me know how it works out! And don't hesitate to pull out in time if it makes you uncomfortable (one of those sentences which can be said in other circumstances... hahaha!). Stay safe my friend, an stay strong especially. You are going through one of those hurdles in life nobody can ever prepare you for. And remember: "Souls never say goodbye". Your Mother will be with you always, in your heart. I find that to be a comforting thought, I hope it works for you as well. All the best, Darren.

the axle gater bolts should be at the 3oclock position when looking from the wheel (it makes it easier to prevent gaps)also there should be no gap even before you add the clamps. keep up the good work! in my climate they only last about a year so i replace them often.
@gmcevoy
@gmcevoy 3 жыл бұрын
I have noticed that they are already showing signs of wear. Shame really, because they aren't cheap. I would really like to be able to fit the original specification gaiters, but I will wait until I go for a full portal rebuild. The front right has an oil seal leak on the outer side, which might be the starting point for this intervention.

Hello Geoffrey, those axle boots were a bit of a challenge. Next job on my 710 will be a full brake job. All new shoes and wheel cylinders. Should be a pretty straight forward mechanical job. I learn something new every time I work on it.
@gmcevoy
@gmcevoy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian! They were indeed. I have just reassessed the state of the brakes, and they need changing as well. I replaced the rear wheel cylinders last year, but both upper pistons were seized. I managed to un-seize them so I will be keeping an eye on those. More importantly, on the front passenger side, both wheel cylinders are in a pitiful state. The thing that really bugs me is the portal oil seal which leaks into the brake drum. I'm in for a portal rebuild pretty much, and while I am at it, I might as well do both front ones. It will have to wait however, because I lack the time, tools and resources to do that right now. I can't really drive it now because of that, although I do take it for a spin every once and again to get the fluids warm... Carefully however. Anyhow, thank you for posting your comment, it is always nice to meet fellow Pinz Owners. There is more content coming along which you should find interesting, so watch this space! :-) Speak soon I hope. All the best, Geoffrey

Jan, this is fantastic news! Congratulations on your acquisition! Per chance, the Pinz I have here had already been registered in Belgium. I bought it "as is" from the seller in Antwerp, and had to work a lot on it to get it ready for technical inspection. It was then just a matter of getting it through in order to have a new registration. Let me know if you are having trouble with this, as importing cars and getting them approved is a part of my job. I can help if you need it, and at any rate, we should meet up and get acquainted! I am so glad to know of another Pinzgauer owner in Belgium! As for the axleboots, you don`t use grease on the joinigsurface with the 4 screws, you use superglue insted, as per fittinginstructions incl. in the OEM kit!, the Pinz engine was designed in the late sixties, that means mineraloil only, as for the drivetrain gearoil 80W90 is the correct stuff to use, the seals will appriciate it
@gmcevoy
@gmcevoy 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your input, Peter. I didn't use grease, I used sealing compound for the axle boots. A sort of gasket maker resistant to oil. It is more flexible than superglue. I must drain and renew the engine oil before this winter, as it has been almost a year since the last oil change. I only covered 800 kms, however, so no harm done. What would you recommend, for engine oil?
@peterlippert7647
@peterlippert7647 3 жыл бұрын
The grade of oil you use is correct, just that we use mineraloil, otherwise very nice vid!
@gmcevoy
@gmcevoy 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for pointing this out. Are there other specific requirements for this mineral oil? I know that some engines require a high zinc content, for example. Thanks again, Peter! It is very nice of you. I will make sure to point this out in a future video.

Hi, does your Pinz have a throttle position sensor or just a normal cable? ... I'm having an issue with mine.... Mine just won't rev up I'm not sure if I need to Calibrate my throttle position sensor
@gmcevoy
@gmcevoy 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. My Pinz runs on carburetters. Throttle position sensors are only found on cars with electronic ignition. I would like to know more about your setup, if you do indeed have fuel injection. Otherwise, the first thing to check on your Pinz will be the valve clearance, ignition point gap and ignition timing. Once that is all good, turn to your carbs or whatever fuel system you may have. If you have carburetters, check float level etc etc, as per the tune-up video I made. Best of luck, and thank you for stopping by! :-)

Man that is some horrible shim design on the gear lever. But what a brilliant design to make the entire master cylinder a single unit with the pedal! And what a nasty surprise in the boots :( - loved to see how the top part of the boot was fighting you getting the clamp around it - Thanks for the great video!

Hi Captain Ron! Thanks for stopping by! Mine came with a crappy Pertronix system which I ditched as soon as I could, and fitted the Pinz SSi instead. Made a world of difference. I did suffer a dramatic failure which nearly cost me the engine, when the ignition module got wet during a deep water crossing. It just stalled right in the middle of it. After that ordeal, I had to replace the module (the defect was not covered under warranty) and relocated it high up, behind the driver seat. I made custom HT leads, and it hasn't missed a beat since.

Thanks for your answer. I'm not as mechanically inclined as you so I'm not sure I could install that newer unit like you got or not. Seems pretty straight forward when I watch others do it lol. Mine is running really good right now so maybe I'll mess with it later on. I really appreciate your videos. I especially like the general maintenance items like fluid replacements in all the gear boxes and the like. I have the repair manual but I can't find any easy go-to place that talks about all the reservoirs that need service, the type of product and amount etc. Still learning and hoping not to mess something up lol.@@gmcevoy
