Nicely done mate. Love my Pinzgauer! I use mine for Search & Rescue for about 6yrs and it has never left me stranded or failed to get me where I needed to go. Really incredible machines.

Thank you for stopping by. It is a great pleasure to read your comment. I have stumbled upon your walk-through video a few years ago, back when I was keeping an eye out for a good opportunity. I knew I needed to have one... It is nice to see how your Pinz has evolved. Mine still has a lot to go through before it becomes as awesome as yours, but they each have their story to tell. Mine was a radio relay vehicle, and was retired from the Swiss army in 1979 for some reason, then served as a technical support vehicle for a private team in the 1980 Paris-Dakar race. Hence the unusual colour scheme. It was then sold on and transformed into an overland adventure vehicle, and here it is now, in my driveway. I am quite fond of it as well, the quirky little bugger. Quite impressive capabilities indeed, although I definitely need to sharpen my off-road driving skills. Good on you for putting yours to good use, it is an admirable thing to do. I look forward to seeing more of your Pinzgauer. Keep in touch! Kindest regards, Geoffrey

Hello there, Dan! Thank you for your encouraging comment! Part 2 will be released this afternoon, and there will definitely be more of this beast on my channel. I lost a bit of confidence after my little incident, and I need to buy a fresh set of tyres before going out on the trails again. I have found an awesome one which I would really like to try. It has three mud bogs to get through, two steep inclines to climb and one slippery descent... Highly technical stuff. New tyres are indispensable. :-) Catch you later!

@@markushykus Ah yes, I see. No problem, Marek. For the initial setup of the idle mixture screws, you have to turn them in fully (without tightening hard of course), then unscrew two turns. Have fun! Good point. The workshop manual indicates 0.2 mm for both inlet and exhaust, on a cold engine. Thank you for pointing this out.

I love my 1973 710K. It has a lot fewer hours on it than yours... up to about 1200 (800 when I bought it in 2017). But way more rust which is constant battle. I have petronix ignition and tempted to get SSI. I learned to stay out of deep water.
@gmcevoy
@gmcevoy 2 жыл бұрын
Wow! 1200 hours is like brand new! Our Pinz are like brothers, they are from the same year! :-) I have a bit of rust to deal with too, the most concerning being on the rear left hand spring locating plate on the chassis rail. I would love to have the opportunity to take the chassis off, get it sand blasted and weld whatever needs welding. Hopefully I will be able to save up enough for that before it is too late. I love this thing! I used to have the Pertronix system as well, and I can tell you for sure that the Pinz SSi might be an expensive thing to add, but it does make a world of difference. Cold starting is much easier, and it runs really smooth. The only downside to the system that I have found, is that if your carbs are running a little too rich, it can sometimes backfire impressively when you lift off. The system is of the 'wasted spark' type, meaning that you have a spark once per crank revolution, regardless if in the compression or exhaust phase. If you are over-fuelling enough, it goes BANG! Startles me every time. Haha! Other than that, it's great value for money. A properly well made system, except that you definitely want to locate the module as high as you can. I sacrificed my Webasto heater (it was no longer working anyway. I did put it aside though, for safekeeping) and located the ignition module in its stead. So far, so good!

@@gmcevoy Mine is in the TFL truck video... back when the suspension was tired, the drivetrain leaky and running rough. I have since had the entire drivetrain rebuilt with the body off by Andre Swanson and all new coils and shocks all the way around. It made amazing difference in handling. It looks like new underneath. I live at 8400ft in Colorado driving 5000-12000ft so often running rich downhill somewhere. I hate to backfire so might stick with petronix which did just burn up a coil. A replacement and a spare was only $120. 1258 hours to go 54000km, I got it with 36000km. Most of my 18000kms are offroad as I am lucky to be surrounded by forest service roads.

@@ErikDJ123 Oh sweet! I remember stumbling across that video a while back! Your area looks beautiful. One of those which got me even more pumped to find one worthy of attention. It took a good couple of years of patient searching before locating this one. All the nice Pinzgauers have been auctioned a couple of decades ago. There are still a few left in Austria and Switzerland, but they are the ones who have been badly damaged and/or are incomplete, as they have served as parts donors to repair the worthy ones... I do still keep an eye out, you never know when you can strike a bargain... I live near forests as well, and although the service roads are public, people around here loathe 4x4's as if they were the cause of all evil. I came across a jogger one day who decided not to get off the track as I was pottering about, a bit like if he owned the place. As soon as I had passed him, he proceeded to throw rocks at my Pinz, that nutjob! Some people, huh? Since then I have given up on driving these tracks. Anyhow, I definitely need a new set of tyres, of all things. The BF Goodrich KM's that are currently on it are way past their sell by date. There is a pay-and-play area where people don't throw rocks at you, but it is quite muddy, boggy, shaly, and a good set of tyres is a basic requirement. A winch would be cool, but that will be for later. I have just bought some equipment to fabricate an exo-cage, as I would like to protect this marvel from the high likeness of flanking it. Well, it won't stop it from tipping over, but at least an exo-cage protects the body, and gives you something to winch on for recovery purposes. I am really happy to make your acquaintance, and thank you for reaching out to me, Erik. It really means a lot to me. Stay in touch!

Hahaha! Well, I already have SSi, so why not get both? Lol. I am busy studying EFi possibilities. A rare few people have used the Digifant system from VW, but I think there is a better solution in stand-alone ECU. A lot of parameters come into play, like the intake plenum volume, injection duration, Lambda value to name only a few. It's on the 'To-do' list, for sure. If you have information about an 'off the shelf' solution, please let me know! :-) Thank you for watching.
