Not too long ago, both the ps3 and wiiu allowed owners of those consoles to play online without a subscription. It wasn't until Microsoft came along with Xbox360, charging to gatekeep online access, that was when other platforms saw how much money they could steal from customers. Now whenever a game is even announced my first instinct is to check if there is an offline mode available, especially on consoles. This is why I'm also trying to save up to buy a really good PC, because both Xbox and Playstation consoles are becoming irrelevant, overpriced, and inferior to PC in every single way. They no longer have exclusives, everything is being released on PC (except Nintendo 1st party games), PC can run games better, PC is actually cheaper than consoles when you add up extra peripherals like storage space and controllers, especially for extra storage for ps5, and the games are becoming dirt cheap much faster on PC, that's including stuff like deluxe and complete editions on PC. This console generation is looking to be the last generation of consoles I ever bought into, the only console I can ever see myself still buying is Nintendo, and that's only for games like Metroid, Zelda, Starfox ect... that is unless they decide to release their stuff on PC as well, or until there is a really good emulator that I can back up and run my Nintendo collection on that is.

Idk turning off cross play does make sense sometimes like whenever I can I turn that shit off when I play cod but helldivers is a co op game so it makes no sense lol

The only way PC players will spend a ton of time in settings to get it to play is if the PC port is poorly optimized. An that would be on Sony.

Who even sits in a settings menu for any significant amount of time these days ? Most of the time you just drop a games graphics preset 1 or at worst 2 notches from max to get good performance.

Yep. PS Minus shoud be only subscription for game library. Online should be free. Or maybe $ony can require PSMinus sub only for PS exclusive games only. I am sure there is many people who would still pay for PS Minus. But at least normal people could use console without paywall restriction.

Other issue is that regardless they need plus cause sony locks all their cloud saves too it as well...

I personally don't mind paying for less cheaters & more security. But with Game Pass I'm also getting hundreds of games along with that price. Hell Xbox Live used to be like $50 per month. Now we get Xbox Live & hundreds of games for just $14.99 I do play on PC also, but I have primarily played on Xbox as I was over the annoying random issues launching games & spending 4 hours searching the internet to fix them, that come with PC gaming. I recently subscribed to GeForce Now and that completely fixes those issues. It's an RTX4080 gaming PC & can run on an older cheaper laptop, so you don't need expensive hardware. No more driver updates. No more random issues of games not working for whatever mysterious reason. But there just really isn't a big enough difference in the graphics from Xbox to PC. Not yet anyways. Graphics scale very well & have plateaued anyways. Sure you can get higher frame rates but anything over 60 is just unnecessary. Maybe if I played a lot of competitive shooters it would be more worth it. But I'm gonna stick with Xbox & only subscribe to GeForce Now when there's specific games I'd rather experience on a better gaming PC.

Many people would voluntarily pay for online multiplayer if it meant there weren't modders, hackers, and cheaters. I only wish such an environment would exist on PC.

Microsoft tried it by putting their "life service " on the PC... They got called out and the shite was hacked and removed in no time flat, too. In the end they had to remove it from existing software. It does not fly on PC. We are used to "free" connection". And trying to take that away is not a service, it's extortion.

Same. I can't remember the last time i spent more than a few minutes inside of a settings menu in pretty much any modern game release.

We should also keep in mind, that for some games, especially ones that are dark in atmosphere, you also have to do an initial settings in some games on console.

@@3Rayfire I mean, Gamma and Contrast sliders are also common on PC before getting into the settings menues. PC's just have lots of ways you fine tune the way you want to play, which makes console Fanboys scared for some reason, especially PS ones.

But the PS fanboy rather has no options and no reason to jump in to the settings menu. This way they can start simulating walking, faster.

at least on twitter you have to pay for a subscription to be able to have that privilege, so this stops a lot of these ponies. on facebook or instragram you don't and there's no character limit so anyone can write these essays without paying a monthly subscription like on twitter.

No, you don't need an anti-virus to play online on PC, but a free version of something like AVG would not hurt as a layer of protection. While most browsers do what the likes of Norton and McAfee can, but better, I concede that paying for an AV program like those is a step too far. So yes, Alex, some of us still use anti-virus in 2024. It's just not as essential as what it used to be. Certainly not for something like Fortnite.

consoles haven't been plug and play since the xbox 360. you needed an account suddenly, you have to download patches for games with throttled internet and installation times are ridiculous as well.

I am happy to pay for Xbox Game Pass and game on both PC & Xbox. At least Xbox give you access to the PC & Xbox (purchased first party) version without buying twice. Also if you have Xbox GamePass Ultimate you get access to both versions (if they exist on both versions).
