I think the reason Starfield wants people to use an SSD is because of the "load doors". I game on PC but I remember when kids use to play Skyrim on the Xbox 360. Load doors took so long that you could make a sandwich and grab a beer before it finished loading.

As a PS player I am actually very surprised about this news myself. I mean as a Warframe content creator the difference between PS4 and PS5 for load times and performance is massive on that game. You know, one thing I have yet to see anybody mention regarding the Starfield PC port is that this is the first Bathesda game released under the Microsoft umbrella, so they have the PC support teams directly at their disposal. I don't think it will be as bad on release as it has been in the past. Not to mention, it was Microsoft that told them to delay the game another year, not the bosses at Bethesda. Look at Redfall for example. Terrible game, obviously, but performance wise, it ran fine on most systems. I think there is some hope that Starfield will come out and be just fine. Of course, I'm not new to eating crow, so I'll be full either way.

People must forget about the Xbox one x and ps4 pro having hard drives and those ran 4k most of the time. I believe the only reason a ssd is recommended is loading times. Then again it’s 2023 and ssds are soo cheap there’s zero reason not to have one unless you need mass storage.

For Starfield the SSD could be for streaming assets from disk. Many games like The Division had to limit your speed in world traversal because the minimum spec PCs and consoles wouldn't be able to keep up if they gave you like a motorcycle. The new consoles and raising minimum specs should in theory open up some new gameplay we couldn't have before.

Except for the fact that my GPU is dying... Even my 10 year old pc can still compete with current generation consoles. I just want to get a new one but I'm not from US so getting one from Starforge ain't an option and it would be outside of what i get paid with the expenses i have monthly.

Yup.... when I first heard about this SSD Ratchet and Clank news, I was seriously scratching my head saying to myself, "But I played Prey on the XBOX 360, and that game clearly did those level displacement through porthole effects. What the heck are they trying to spin here?" Then about an hour later I thought to myself "wait... My brother and I played a crap ton of Portal on the XBOX 360, and that game was purely based on travelling through portholes, it was the point of that game. Solving puzzles in that manner." Then I saw Doublefine Studios put out a short video sometime afterwards showing Psyconaughts 2 doing the same effects in one of their stages... and that just completely debunked Sony's claims even further for me. But wait.... There's MORE! Without travelling through the levels, the tech is almost the same when you consider there's at least for that instant 2 levels or portion of the receiving level running at the same time. HALO CE, and HALO 2 Anniversary are games that are fully running 2 versions of all stages at the same time. Pressing the "back" button will switch between the original OG Xbox version of the game, and the current remake/remastered version of the game. Sure you're not a character jumping between the two stages, but I think it's more impressive that the game is running a full second game behind the scenes. Come on, Sony... I saw through your smoke and mirrors on that SSD bullsh*t.

CPU and GPU is KING, amount of cores/ GHZ / avg ghz.. and GPU power are all KING. then comes HDD/nvme speeds at end to run games. Ps5 quick resume being 50s for SOME games laoding i was like WTF? Xbox quick resume is like 1-3s ALMOST ALWAYS. Interesting with slightly slower nvme speeds, it beats out slightly faster nvme in ps5 in LOADING.. why? HARDWARE HDD/SSD is LAST on totem pole of POWER in PC. What's inside a Xbox XSX or PS5.. PC PARTS.. yes the software is less demanding in background, more devs work on Console ports, BUT they are pc underneath.. look at specs at XSX and at ps5 .. YOU SEE WHY overheating ps5 + (fan cooling sucks, less space for wind, and less metal pipes) But it's crazy Alexx and everyone, PS5 still riding weaker internals AND weaker cooling(heating) just saying slightly faster SSD, both nvme.. will WHAT? win the gen? i can think of 2 games that really truly require a SSD/NvME that is forza 5 and FS2020. those two games can take 5-10mins to load ask me how i know. FS2020 on a HDD is real pain.
