Looks like people are interested in the trial of Chandler Halderson which started today. Time to play some catch up. I will cover opening arguments and maybe some witnesses tonight, and I'll have to modify some of the coverage as this week goes on and I work through some other obligations, but we'll get into full coverage soon.
Grab some whiskey and join us.

Yeah, this guy is fucking slick. I like how he prepped the jury for what's going to happen-to remind them testimony counts as evidence. He tells them that he needs to make his case thoroughly so it survives an appeal, to prep them against what might feel like wasted time. He speaks well and has a good narrative flow. It helps that he's got all the facts on his side here, but he'd probably make a killer defense attorney.

Oh this shit is getting made into a soul destroying B movie taking inspiration from American Beauty and Silence of the Lambs. Doesn't even need a court scene. Just some subterfuge writing to get the audience to defend Chaz and twist it in act 3 with classically camp horror and reveals. I mean hell, it's already written for whoever wants to chuck some cash and get it made.
@frankbauerful
@frankbauerful 2 жыл бұрын
@@miinyoo I'm more reminded of Primal Fear and the defense might have more success going with the strategy from that movie, i.e. claim that he has a split personality caused by sexual abuse and the person on trial doesn't remember any of it and therefore is not guilty by reason of insanity.

I couldn’t agree more! It’s refreshing! I’m still trying to wash off all the slime that oozed off of the prosecution in both of those trials. And they really shook any faith I may have had for our “justice system”. Seeing people prosecuted for clear cut self defense was infuriating. So it’s nice to see them prosecute someone they actually have hard evidence against and who appears to have actually committed 1st degree murder. So thanks Nick for covering this. I don’t think the defense will be able to do much here. Only thing she could really do is try to focus on with the jury is making sure the state meet their burden and keep denying they can. I can’t wait to see her actual defense and how she’s gonna try to refute all this evidence. Her opening was honestly the worst I’ve seen in recent memory.

Jesus, beyond the absolute orgy of evidence for guilt, the gap in representation is like watching Mike Tyson in his prime fight a paraplegic. The prosecutor is the anti-Binger (honestly, based on his opening alone, I would be extremely concerned with him prosecuting me if I were INNOCENT, never mind guilty), and the defense was incoherent, then borderline conceded that he may be guilty. His only hope of not getting convicted this month is that his lawyer has a nervous breakdown sometime in the coming trial and starts bawling at how she is representing pure evil, causing a mistrial.

I've seen defense attorneys win on a "beyond a reasonable doubt" sandwich. 👉 "They're not going to be able to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt." 🕶️ Goes on to prove the guy was innocent as a baby. 👉 "They did not prove each element beyond a reasonable doubt." Those attorneys don't want to set themselves up for the jury to expect them to prove anything else. That's the main reason why you can't defend yourself in a criminal trial. It's hard to tell the jury, "They failed to prove I did it beyond a reasonable doubt."

Nick is right about the use of shame. I remember watching a first amendment auditor who had a cop come up to him very aggressively trying to tell him he can't film there. The auditor recognized the cop as having been disciplined and lost his job at another department and as soon as he brought it up the shame of the on the guy's face was palpable. The cop actually stopped and just walked away after that. I'd really think shame is the solution to people like Karen who think they can act any way they want with no repercussions. Social repercussions for these people are stronger than just about anything and shame works great for that

@@garrettcrowl1294 "ignored pressing him on it"? Not sure what u mean Also, op didn't mention who they think is defending Jack, so you're just naming names on your own

They don't have any concrete evidence that he did. It's all circumstantial. For all we know, his girlfriend or someone who knew him wanted to screw him over and killed his parents. The dismemberment charge is hard to defend, especially given his search history. But there's no real evidence that he actually committed the murder. I could plausibly see a not guilty on the murder charges.

Love your explaining of the difference between shame and bullying. You are right! This is at the heart of human behavior. All JM needed to understand was basic human behavior - the Streisand effect is real.

God damnit Nick "Ltd Dan, ice cream." I'm trying not to bust out laughing since my husband is trying to sleep. Jesus Christ, I'm so glad I found this channel. Dark, dry sense of humor, little fucks given, crime junkie obsession, it's so fucking refreshing. I will probably wake my husband up tonight laughing so fucking hard. Oops 🙃😈
