To all those people that say "I love patina"......It only cost $65 to paint an entire car. So, grab some tractor paint and a 12 pack!!!
@mjc8248

I've painted plenty of beaters and derby cars with tractor paint, and I can verify that it sticks to anything. With the prep he did, it's basically an armored car now. I've painted with absolutely no prep on a derby car and it held up great.

More please. I have a 1972 LTD (factory) convertible that my Dad bought new. It is all original except I put new wheels and tires on it to get rid of the whitewall tires and hub caps. I need to do the rear brakes and get it out and drive it some. Oh and it has a tow hitch on it he put on back in probably '73 to tow a boat. Now that was a sight. I learned to drive in that car when I was 12 and now it is my car. My youngest daughter (21) wants it when I die. I told her I was going to be buried in it and she said she would dig it up. LOL I'm just happy she likes the car. How many 21 year old girls in 2023 would like a 1972 LTD?

That last question is a good one. My question is: Would a restored old Ford LTD be a chick magnet nowadays as long as it no longer looks like an Uncle Buck Express? Probably.

My dad was a auto mechanic by trade. But every so often he would do auto body work and paint. My brother and I would get the job of masking off the cars. We really liked working with our dad. That was over fifty years ago but some great memories. Thanks guys. Good luck with your project.

My dad’s cousin in Alabama would flip cars (in 60s & 70s) and some got his special paint job too! He said his cousins way of painting was like this. In his back yard, out in the open air. He’d get some oil base paint & thin it down w/ regular gas (1960-1970s gas) then put it on w/ a paint brush and roller 🤣🤣🤣 Dad said the finished paint job flowed out & beyond belief, had very little brush marks or ripples on the car or old truck & actually look good after it was done.🤣🤣🤣 That was his side hustle and per my dad, his cousin did this his whole adult life. I’m no painter so I’m not sure how it would turn out but my Dad said they looked good when finished. 👍🇺🇸
