The plaintiffs were hired to cater an extravagant masquerade birthday party. The plaintiffs say the defendants still owe them money because the waitstaff didn’t get paid what they were owed. They’re suing for unpaid bills and time and energy. The defendants argued they agreed to pay one hourly rate, but it’s not on them to cover the extra cost if the plaintiffs promised a higher rate. They’re countersuing for a taste testing charge.

I bartended for over 12 years… and anytime I’ve been approached about someone going out of their way to request “young, pretty, well kept” staff or bartenders… without fail, the client ends up being creepy by the end of the night. And before anyone comes at me.. I know this comment section well 😂 besides bartending in bars, over the 12 years + the events I still do.. I’ve bartended over 900 private events.. birthdays, weddings, bachelor parties, etc. I’m telling ya, they ALWAYS end up creepy.

Honestly,, even if it was a $200.00 event,, there SHOULD be something in writing.. I sold a trailer recently, the buyer gave me a $500.00 deposit and was to bring the other $1500.00 when he picked it up. I brought out a tablet to write a simple receipt and he said NO,, it's a gentleman agreement. So I took $500 CASH and he drove away.. The next day He sent a text saying that he changed his mind with a story about truck problems.. He said "just give me back my deposit money, no harm no foul". I told him he was out of his ever lovin' mind and charged him an additional $100.00 for storage until he sent someone else to pick it up..

This event planner is ridiculous! ALWAYS HAVE A CONTRACT WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS! This is what protects you from them. Most customers do not want to pay what the event is worth and the contract will protect you. Also, $500 for two taste panels seems excessive. Although I don’t know the number of items they tried or how many guests attended, I only charge $25.00 per person. More so they just show up as most customers are super flaky these days

The difference of the servers being paid $15.00/hr or $20.00/hr should be very clear. It's no different than if you go out to a restaurant and receive great service or horrible service. The $5.00 difference would be considered a tip. If you had to be told to get off your phone and serve the guest, you were providing horrible service and did not deserve to be given any extra money. Remember that 2 out of the 9 servers did receive the extra $5.00/hr, that in itself proves that the defendants were not intentionally keeping money that was owed, it wasn't earned by the other 7 servers. Tips are given to servers and staff that actually do their job, do it well without having to be told, and they don't have their cell phone out at any time while on duty. Plain and simple. You didn't earn a tip, you don't get a tip. It's the same way in any restaurant you dine in, and a party is no different, I wouldn't have tipped them either if I had to babysit them all night.

I have no idea at how they didn't have a contract and not end up quibbling like they did here. I would like to know what was different before (maybe it was a much smaller event?). What kind of a tasting cost $250 for two people? (this sounds like more than what their per person was at the actual event!!!). it certainly wasn't just paying for the cost of the food/drinks. For the people who think $10k is alot... the actual cost was more - they didn't talk about the venue rental!! or if there was hired entertainment etc.

She screwed her staff and should’ve paid them out of her own pocket what they didn’t received from defendants

They spend 18,000 for a party and are cheap to pay the servers a good wage.

If they werre my clients, I would have paid the money myself to my own waitstaff to keep the peace. Obviously, the clients werre not happy with this part of the service. Being on their cell phones, opening up multiple bottles, etc. would logically annnoy most people

That was NICELY done *WASH* by Judge Milian. They happen - but the REALLY good ones she actually have to break down and explain to both parties how they even out $ by $ in whatever silly or major lawsuit they have always amazes me.

I would never never never hire an event planner without getting a contract to protect me as much as them. Very irresponsible of both litigants, and the Defendant was definitely a jerk.

It does sound like the servers were crappy, if some of the guests said they never even saw the hors d'oeuvres and the bartenders were opening multiple bottles of the same thing. Defendants did say two were good though; I hope they handed them a tip under the table.
