Never made pork adobo before, so I searched recipes. This popped up, Foodland/ Sack N Save is where I shop. So, trusting this company, I knew I could trust the recipe. My bf came home, walked in the house and asked what smells so good. Maika'i!

i've never heard of adobo with slurry (cornstarch+water), i guess that's why adobo is like a blank canvas, we can do whatever works for us as long as we have the combination of salty+sour+garlicky taste ;-)

What's good about this recipe is that you can add vegetables like slices of carrots, bell pepper, potatoes, or others to add another layer to this fine dish.

yeah brah, i always brown the pork I never take the excess fat though lol. I might do that in the future. For best flavor use like FIlipino soy sauce like silver swan or datu puti they have a unique flavor and adds to the adobo. I never used cornstarch i just let the sauce thicken itself unless your impatient, gotta be careful not to put too much cornstarch you might end up messing it up. Overall looks great I hungry now. You guys helped me how to fry meat jun properly i tend to mess up the frying part. Mahalo!

From Foodland Website: Ingredients 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 2 pounds pork butt, belly or shoulder, cut into 1 ½ inch pieces, pat dry 1/2 cup distilled vinegar 1/3 cup water 1/3 cup shoyu 1/2 head of garlic, peeled and crushed 3/2 teaspoons Whole black peppercorns 2 bay leaves Instructions In a thick gauge pot, heat to medium high. Add in the oil and brown the pork in batches. When the meat is browned, combine with the rest of the ingredients in the pot. Bring to a boil, then simmer. Cover and then continue to simmer (approximately 40 minutes) until the meat is tender. You may serve as is or slightly thicken the sauce with a little slurry of cornstarch and water.

wow! there's so, many ways of cooking adobo and you actually took time to brown the meat instead, of just boiled meat..I like that ! Is when you get the most flavor.. I'm coming over for dinner now,. make plenty!

This is also similar to Dutch Portuguese way... the only thing different is we add few halved potatoes into the liquid As soon as we add the vinegar when the potatoes are cooked the outside texture Is little firm and the inside of the potatoes are floury

Wrong. Chef tastes it first before serving so he can adjust. If you don't, you look like the dumb ass who accidentally put sugar instead of salt. Always taste it first before FORMALLY serving.
@DirigiblePlum
@DirigiblePlum 4 жыл бұрын
@@ceecee8757 Wrong. He DID formally serve it. The taste test should have been done near the end of the cooking process. I'd have to question the chef's skills if they've already plated and then decide to taste it to see if it's perfectly seasoned. He should've let his guest try first or at the very least made two plates if he was going to be a pig about it.
