Fun Fact, Jean Claude van Damme was supposed to be the man in the predator suit but got replaced after he cited safety concerns on the original predator design. I he hadn't spoken up; the current Predator design would have been quite the ugly Mantis looking insect like thing...lol

Fun fact: It was actually Arnold’s idea to beat the Predator with the trap at the end. In the original script he was supposed to beat the alien in hand to hand combat, but even he realized the absurdity of it, stating, “I’m a man, but it’s a monster.” And it actually worked so much better in my opinion. To realize that this thing with countless excursions on countless worlds got bested by the simplest of traps is just phenomenal.

@@mrnicktoyou didn’t matter in the end anyway. The writers didn’t seem to think about the fact that the gun she took from the dead Predator is being carried by the Elder Predator in Predator 2. So odds are, he showed up with his clan and killed her and her entire tribe, then took the gun as a trophy. 🙄

Predator mimicking and taunting Dutch's men is not only intimidating 😳 but downright scary! Especially when the Predator uses Billy's laugh at the end of the film before the Predator nuked himself! -OG

I like that Hawkins was Abby's favorite. He's an interesting character. He keeps telling those crude, crass jokes to try to get stoic Billy to laugh, but when he caught Anna when she tried to escape, he was almost apologetic, literally pleading with her not to fight because he didn't want to hurt her. There's some hidden complexity there.

They also show that he has lightning reflexes and spectacular environmental awareness (or peripheral vision). They do a pretty decent job of making all the members of this elite team, seem exceptional. (no duds here)

The Duffer brothers are huge fans of this movie. They pay homage to it in Stranger Things. The town is named after Hawkins and the name Jim Hopper is from this.

About just putting the guns down. By that point, the Predator saw how capable Dutch and his team was. So them disarming themselves wasn't going to stop it. And Billy cut himself so the Predator wouldn't have "first blood" when they fought.

Kevin Peter Hall was a basketball player. He got the role as Predator after they fired Jean Claude Van Damme who should be the Predator but he was unhappy with the Predator costume and overall. So they changed the design for Kevin Peter Hall. Sadly he was only the Predator in the first 2 movies. He died in 1991 before he got 36 years old. He also studied theater studies which helped him get into acting. Mostly he got offers for monster and alien roles because of his enormous height.

Billy knew they were all likely going to be picked off one by one, and he didn't want to die running. He waited until he was on the log, so the predator would have to fight him one on one, straight ahead, unable to be flanked. You can tell that the predator killed Billy in melee combat, because you heard him scream when he died. If he'd been shot by the plasma caster, there'd have been no scream.

they still did Billy dirty tho, he was holding the knife in his right hand and the thermal vision the knife was on the left (aka Predator was behind him) so he more than likely got knifed in the back.... and we didn't get to see his fight either.

@GreenBeanGreenBean No, the Predator was in front of Billy the whole time, the knife was always in his right hand in every shot, and you could even see the blood dripping down Billy's chest cooling to blue in the thernal vision. I agree it would've been cool to see how long Billy lasted in a knife fight with the Jungle Hunter, but leaving it to the audience's imagination works too, especially with the frantic tone of fleeing during that sequence.

Fun fact: The Predator's iconic clicking-noises were done by Peter Cullen, a voice actor most known for being the voices of Optimus Prime in Transformers, and Eyore in Winnie the Pooh. And Kevin Peter Hall, the actor who wore the Predator suit in the film, gets an out-of-costume cameo at the end of the film as the helicopter pilot

It's something the Yautja do. When they find a worthy opponent, they relinquish all their weapons and armor to fight hand to hand. It earns them more honor. When the Yautja carefully placed his mask on the ground, it was videoing the fight for folks to watch back on the home planet.

Weathers was an NFL player. Richard Chavez was a Vietnam vet. Shane Black (Hawkins) was/is a screenwriter who helped write the script for the movie, and has written other award winning movies such as the Lethal Weapon series, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and many others. Arnold was obviously Mr. Universe. Perhaps the greatest of all-time. And of course the former governor of California. Jean Claude Van Damme was originally cast for the Predator. A very interesting cast.

Some fun facts. During filming it was cold during the night in the jungle. So Arnold is trying not to shiver on film while covered in cold mud, in a cold jungle at night. Jesse Ventura was a U.S. Navy S.E.A.L. during Vietnam. In fact the whole covering yourself in mud, does actually work against thremo vision optics. Several KZfaq channels have put it to the test. Those channels were all surprised on how little mud. It would take to invisible to modern day thermal optics. They had several thousands of dollars worth of high end civilian legal thermal optics.

They did a great job on the effects and costume. I remember watching this as a kid in the late 80’s. Please watch all the Predator and Alien movies and the Alien vs Predator movies.

Kevin Peter Hall, who played the Predator also was the pilot of the chopper. He also was the Predator in Predator 2 before he sadly passed away. Jean Claude Vanne Dame, who you see getting out of the chopper at the beginning, was going to be the Predator, with the original monster suit, until Arnold suggested Stan Winston, (special effects of The Terminator and Aliens) to create the Predator. James Cameron suggested the mandibles on the predators face.

It always makes me laugh at how reactors don't understand the scene @18:55 . What they're doing is a military tactic called Suppressing Fire. They are under imminent attack and there is mortal danger coming from that direction so they all unload with interlocking fire. It's not really about shooting anyone, it's more about 'slinging massive amounts of lead downrange' because there is a psychological element to it. Bullets whizzing past your head have a distinct and unique sound; hence, anyone downrange will automatically duck their head and get as low to the ground as possible. These few seconds give the Team a chance to regroup while simultaneously stopping the immediate threat they are under. I'm a former U.S. Army Infantry Soldier and we used to practice this tactic when we would conduct jungle warfare training. Every reactor I've seen thinks this is just a waste of ammo but in a real life situation, this tactic may be the only thing that saves the lives of the remaining Team members.

I'm glad they don't reveal too much about the Predator. They say less is more. The less you know about the Predator, the scarier he becomes. But it's also twofold. The less you know about the Predator, the more you want to know what makes him tick! The perfect formula for a sequel. -OG

Awesome reaction Toy and Abby. I watched most of the Predator universe movies; Predator, Predator 2 (1990), Alien vs. Predator (2004), Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007), Predators (2010), The Predator (2018). I haven't gotten a chance to watch Prey (2022) yet. I liked Predator 2 more than Predator. I like how the later movies expanded on the lore of the Predator.

Toy & Abbi from RuntotheMovies if y'all thought the Wilderness Predator (who only has a Med Kit, the Shoulder Mounted Gun (Plasma Caster) & the Wrist Blades) in this Film was badass then wait till y'all get a load of the Concrete Jungle/Urban Jungle/City Predator (who has far/way more Options) in the Sequel (Predator II 1990)!

Kevin Peter Hall, who played the Predator, was only the Predator in the first 2 films. Sometime after Predator 2, he got into a serious car accident. His life was saved by receiving more blood when he was in the hospital. The unfortunate thing was that the blood he received was tainted. It had the HIV virus. Kevin Peter Hall got AIDS and died because of that. Very tragic. His life was saved only to be taken later. He was the BEST Predator! But if you want to see more of his work, I highly recommend you guys watch the 7' 3" tall actor as Bigfoot in the family fun film Harry and the Henderson's! -OG

Two things- Hawkins had to die first because the entire tone of the movie changed at that point. From then on it was very serious. Second (which I think you may have caught) the stranger things references that stem from this movie- Hawkins (name of the town) and Jim Hopper (the sheriff’s name). I wonder how many more there are 🤔

Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in The Running Man shortly after this. Other films of his I recommend watching are Pumping Iron, Red Heat, Twins and Eraser. Chris Pratt is married to Arnold's oldest daughter Catherine

The mini gun also is used in T2 and T3 as well. In reality that system would be a mounted weapon most often as a door gun on helicopters and not carried around like in this movie or in T2.

This is definitely an action classic that is so re watchable , and so many quotable lines here GET TO DA CHOOOPAAA!! no doubt you have heard that parodied many times . John McTiernan directed this and he has also directed another action movie staple DIE HARD probably one the best CHRISTMAS movies ever LOL! . The Predator is so memorable somehow terrifying and cool all at the same time i just love practical effects and the 80's wass the olden era for that . Thanks to TOY and Abby you both gave a great reaction to this CHEERS . 😀

You brought up glow in the dark bracelets about the predators blood and you are actually right. They liquid from glow sticks mixed with KY jelly for the blood effect. Also Jean Claude Van Dam was supposed to be the predator but it didn’t work out so they ended up changing the actor.

I've watched a few reactions to Predator and none of them have picked up on the fact that Billy was Native American which explains the things he did in the movie. We all knew this in the 80s.
