I didn’t think I was going to like the outcome do to the fact of how you placed the first layer, and cut out the lettering. It’s not how I would of expected it to turn out. It’s different. And I like it. The end product turned out amazing. 🤩

@@zrcarbon9937 Exacty, I can't imagine that Ducati would make them heavier than they have to be. After all these parts barely have to withstand any forces. Would be interested, how a cars front bumper would compare, but since I'm in germany, this kind of stuff would be highly illegal..
@buddtwin2
@buddtwin2 Жыл бұрын
@@m-tech1816 what you mean it’s illegal to buy carbon fiber and epoxy? After reading your comment I had to do some research on this, and to be honest I couldn’t find a single thing that said buying epoxy or cabin fiber was illegal for private sales.
@m-tech1816
@m-tech1816 Жыл бұрын
@@buddtwin2 yeah no, the material itself isn't illegal at all but you go straight to jail if you even think of putting self made parts on a car and driving that on the streets. If you hit a person, the material could chip in a way, that makes sharp edges, which could harm the person. It's dumb, but it's the law here. So I could build a carbon fiber bumber, but then I couldn't use my car anymore..

Great Work. Not a Big Fan of the Layup, but Great Work you are doing. But i´ve got an tip for you. If you wanna glue something on the backside of carbon fibre there is a special Peel Ply which leaves an Surface you can directly bond to. So you can save time sanding down the places where you wanna glue.

Usually you wouldn't wait for the Gelcoat to fully cure. It's way better (and easier) to wait it to cure to B-Stage (a few hours, if you touch it the gelcoat is still sticky but it doesn't come off) and then you apply your tooling resin with reinforcement. This way the bond between the gelcoat and the resin with the reinforcement is also chemical, not only physical, and therefore way stronger. We do molds like this in about 3-4 hours of work (before demolding)
@zrcarbon9937
@zrcarbon9937 8 ай бұрын
Hey Thanks for your advice. I tried that before. The high temp gelcoat not compatible with the tooling resin I’m using. Least the gelcoat has to fully cure. The tooling resin will soften the HT gelcoat if it’s still tacky and delaminating the layers. Never worked for me. I’m saying this out of experience. Maybe you’re using a different type of resin or gelcoat. 🤷‍♂️ Thanks anyway 🛠️🤘
@antbonz2892
@antbonz2892 6 ай бұрын
@@zrcarbon9937 To avoid compatibility problems between the gelcoat and the mold resin, simply make a first layer of fiberglass with classic polyester resin, wait for this layer to dry, and make the following layers with the mold resin. This is the method I was taught at work 👍

so, CF can only save about 1/3 of the original weight, right?
@zrcarbon9937
@zrcarbon9937 Жыл бұрын
Depends on what will you replacing with CF. If you replacing metal parts with cf the weight saving will be bigger. On the video I abs plastic with cf. The plastic was already light so the difference in weight wasn’t too big. 🤘

Why do you let the gel coat cure before applying fiberglass?
@zrcarbon9937
@zrcarbon9937 Жыл бұрын
The gelcoat has to fully dry before the tooling resin applied. Otherwise the resin will bubble up the gelcoat. 🛠️🤘

I think you should get a smaller brush that one isn’t small enough for the gel coat!!!! Lol
@zrcarbon9937
@zrcarbon9937 Жыл бұрын
The purpose of using the small brush. I was able to break the surface tension and get into the corners much easier. Les likely to have air bubbles trapped on the surface. The small brush is even more useful when the temperature is lower than 20c and the gelcoat is too thick. 🤘 Unfortunately I didn’t have a smaller brush on me 😝 I like it you pointed that out 👍🛠️
