Please forgive the slightly boring content, however I wanted to make a video going over the parts you get in the 110v kit from Ali Express.
I'll be nose down building this weekend and hope to have another video out sometime next week!

Very nice looking case. I'm assuming the control panel from the VFD can be removed and mounted remotely? It is curious that the spindle mount didn't come with holes in it, was that expected? I was watching a Jeremy Fielding video on his CNC and he was saying he thought the USB connection wasn't as capable of communicating the control signals as reliably so it's good you're going with the parallel port. Thanks for the video.

@@xtim8719x Hey Tim, I have asked the store countless times to only send the parallel boards with the kits but it seems to happen for a while then they forget 🙄it's all part of the fun of dealing with Chinese factories. I forgive them as the main hardware components are reliable quality and generally arrive quite quickly. Luckily the parallel BOB's can be picked up for a few dollars easily

Hey Brian, I was looking to purchase a Mesa card for my build however availability and price is a problem. Have you run into any issues running directly from the parallel port?
@ProjectsbyBrian
@ProjectsbyBrian Жыл бұрын
I did have an issue where my left driver's dir pin wouldn't get the correct signal sometimes when homing. So the left motor would turn the opposite way, resulting in the machine trying to tear itself apart if you didn't catch it (I had to watch it quickly when homing every time). I wasn't sure if this was an interference issue, or a wiring issue, but other guys have been running the parallel port from the beginning with zero issues. I think it's a great way to get the machine up and running initially while you source a Mesa.

how is the 110v vfd and motor working for you I cant decide between 220v or 110v
@ProjectsbyBrian
@ProjectsbyBrian Жыл бұрын
I've been really happy with it, haven't ever felt like I needed more power. The 220v setup might have a little more power to it simply because you have greater potential, however I think your wiring availability in your shop/garage would be a more important factor. I would have gone with 220v, however I only had one spare breaker in my panel, so I went with 110v. I hope that helps!

No expert, but think about locating your VFD somewhere else. Apparently it makes a lot of electronic noise, which can play havoc with your other electronics

By the way your video just caught me being unfaithful while I was checking the "root 4 cnc"😅 How would you compare those 2, if you have seen it that is?
@randallservidio5919
@randallservidio5919 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't built the Root cnc, but I was looking at it coming from a MPCNC lowrider 2 before I decided on the PrintNC. IMHO the Root suffers from the same design flaw as the LR2. It uses suspended tubing for rails, nothing is solidly mounted like on the PNC. I could lightly lay my hand on the rail tubing that supported the Z axis and it would move a lot, like 1/8in. Pretty terrible for Z axis accuracy. It was fine for profiling a part, but I never could get a 3D relief that I was happy with. YMMV

@@randallservidio5919 that was very informative. Thanks 👍 Have you tried any of the additional support structures? If I recall correctly "teaching tech" modeled one, and I am sure that there are others on thingiverse.
@randallservidio5919
@randallservidio5919 3 жыл бұрын
@@GGGG_3333 I started to, but in the end you're just throwing band-aid after band-aid on a poor design. Don't get me wrong if you understand the limitations suspended tubing can work, but it's tedious and slow. The up side is it's a cheap to build and learn on, but there's a reason commercial designs don't use it.
