Progress At The Off Grid Cabin, Nature Is Against Us

Buying an excavator with NO EXPERIENCE was a gamble, but we felt it was the best way to make big progress here on our mountainous, heavily overgrown, and unmanaged hunting property. With another baby on the way, we've changed our plans & are building off grid cabin number 2. This cabin will be big enough for us to have live in for years to come, with beds for guests, solar, and a real septic tank (no more composting toilet).

YES! the road we live off of used to be a railroad and when they filled it in, they used gravel from that creek, its honest to goodness the best "dirt road" I've ever been on.

@@woodysbarndominium ooo, we have starlink and it's been a real godsend. I know that from our install obstructions are a big deal. If the trees are your issue maybe you can mount it on a pole high or something.

@@mdavis3 funny enough, there’s a super deeply rooted tree, about 100’ tall right outside the cabin. I’d love to chop the top and mount it there. woody has climbing gear he’s been dying to use for a year, might be the time!

Can you use mulch on your muddy driveway? Grind up all the trees youre clearing out? Wont last like gravel, but would maybe last a season or two?

Good morning from Jersey and definitely have to agree with you this rain has got to go. And it's always great to do butter and what your neighbor's. You help them they help you things work out. And my wife made me downsize all my mud trucks and all that other stuff as well. But not my tools lol . Have a blessed rest of your week

Hey I’m all for keeping tools, you never know!….cars on the other hand, even if you own them you’ve still got to pay insurance/registration/get inspections…and that adds up. Plus I have nowhere to put them 🤣

Thank you, we need it! We’ve had tornadoes all around us, and hail, so we figure even if this doesn’t work out, if we escape those like we have been, we’re lucky!

The boundaries are mapped, but they weren’t easy to find without special equipment. We are in incredibly thick woods, especially in the spring, like it was when we bought the place.

We love Arkansas! One of the most free states in the union. I highly recommend the book strategic relocation amzn.to/44KBbOC It helped us tremendously in figuring out which states supported our priorities.
