I've been keeping an eye on this game for nearly a decade now (played the story demo) so it's lovely to see it get the attention it deserves! Especially since the next major update will hopefully be reintroducing NPCs for the first time in a decade, and when their promised NPC system looks to be quite fascinating.

Jon and the zombie working "together" to destroy the boarded-up window was really funny. This game definitely needs a long livestream. "Everybody wins, apart from you." Ha!

I've watched Jon commit a lot of war crimes over the years but microwaving a steak is beyond the pale.

Such a learning curve here. It's a horror movie adjacent experience watching people learn and die. All yelling at the protagonists like "No scissors are not a pretty good weapon!!!" And "Check the glove box for keeeeys!"

In case this hasn't come up yet, jon all the small towns you can spawn in are part of a massive map with large stretches of highway between them

24:28 you should be able to select "Unbarricade" as an option to get out of this house. And the reason why you have so many weapons spawns in THIS house, is it's a barricaded 'survivor' house. These houses often contain much more and better loot, but also usually have zombies in.

Jon, I know you love your controller but this game really benefits from keyboard and mouse… you can scroll out much further than what you’re seeing and you’re therefore effectively playing a really hard game on hard mode.

A few hints to Jon (or anyone else interested in playing this wonderful game after watching this) from someone who has managed 34 days on my longest run. -Don't ignore the dancing heart icon on the left. That's what tells you where you're injured, how badly you're injured, and whether or not you've been bitten. -Keep an eye open for bedsheets. They can he hung over doors and windows to create makeshift curtains. -Jon was dead on with his assessment of guns; if your character is not trained with them they're very hard to use and even then will generally only attract more zombies. Props to Jon for figuring that one out way faster than Dan did. -Cars require you to sit in the driver's seat (left side in the US) to drive them. Also, they need keys (or to be hotwired.) Also they need fuel. Also they need engine parts. Cars are complicated but incredibly useful. -Weapon condition isn't an indicator of a weapon's durability. It degrades while fighting zombies, with items like kitchen knives and frying pans, not made for the rigors of zombie fighting, to disintegrate in only a few hits. Items like axes and crowbars have much higher durability. -Bottles acquired from drinking orange soda or beer can be filled with water at taps. It is worth doing this with every bottle you find and leaving stashes around, as the water and power do not stay on forever. Edit: I also just realized after posting this that Jon/Dan/Matt playing multiplayer on this game is something that needs to happen.

A live stream of Jon trying to get to Louisville would be really cool! Also as a Kentucky native I can say the map is surprisingly accurate (minus the omission of Fort Knox).

Jon really puts himself at a disadvantage by plaything PZ with a controller. Zomboid's health system is surprisingly in-depth, with sicknesses, stitching up wounds, various types of fractures and so on, but i dont even think you can easily open the health menu with a controller. Also, im sure this was already recommended, but a game with a REALLY in-depth health system is SCUM - it even tracks how many teeth your character has.

12:18 so a good strategy is to break line of sight with the zombies chasing you by going around a building, for example, or using trees to slow them down, or using a high fence to cause them to trip and be vulnerable on the ground.

Also, using mouse and keyboard would be best. Its much easier to aim for a downed zombies head that way.

I am concerned that when you play this game on hard mode without having a full grasp of all the game mechanics, it will only become frustrating and will stop being fun. And that would be a shame. I love this game and would love to see you turn this into a proper series.

My first time playing this was spent mostly cowering in my house and then running through endless forests to try and find a place with medical supplies to treat my scratch and bite wounds lmao. I died after only one day (probably more like 5 hours to be honest) as you might expect, got so exhausted the zombies swarmed me on a highway and I had to watch as they started catching up to me

Jon, this game has an armor system in it as well, be on the lookout for a leather jacket, and a motorcycle helmet.

So cute Jon doesn't know what 'Merican tornado magnets are... also called trailer parks. Also funny he keeps getting into the wrong side of the cars.

A few tips from someone who has made it past the utility shutoff a couple of times: - use melee weapons that aren’t knives, so spears if you can craft them (which takes tools) or blunt weapons like the rolling pins, police batons or frying pans. Also vanilla guns other than the js-2000 shotgun are useless air horns. - your priorities in the early game are firstly a backpack > tools > a car and then a lot of food. Don’t worry too much about water, it’s everywhere, just have a bottle on you. There’s plenty I’m forgetting too

I definitely recommend playing with a custom rule set so that you can better understand how some of the game's mechanics work. For instance, you can adjust how long until the water and electricity cut off, or how perceptive the zombies are. I used to run a server with a small group of regulars a bit before the vehicle update, and it gave me some of my favorite gaming memories.

I've been anticipating this game on your channel for awhile! I'm glad to finally see the MATN give this gem of a zombie game a shot, I'd love to see even more videos about this game just because of how amazing it really is, I need more!!

So many fun memories from Project Zomboid! In my experience, complex simulations and emergent player-driven gameplay are a perfect mix.

Jon bless your heart I know you're partial to using an Xbox controller, but please, even with a measly 90 hours put into Project Zomboid, I can say with confidence that mouse & keyboard is infinitely superior.

The best way to move is usually a steady walk; it's fast enough to keep you out of reach of zombies and conserves stamina.

Couple pointers: 1. you don’t need to lock the door they will bust through regardless(just a waste of time) 2. If you walk normally you can out pace them and not exert energy and become exhausted. 3. When you see if busted window get the options up and clear broken glass(small chance you can still get cut though unless you have leather gloves). 4. You need to bandage your wounds. You can rip clothes to make ripped cloth. To stop bleeding. Love the game play Jon! Hope to see you keep playing it! :)

Also says this game comes up in a discussion about health management systems, never once even attempts to manage any health (you do that by clicking on the heart in the top left corner that moves when you are injured)

Despite Jon's incredible lack of perception in a game that requires constantly noticing small details, this was still a great video

Sometimes you can lose your smaller one handed weapons, they can stuck in a zed's head. Probably that's what happaned to your screwdriver.

I like how jon smashes a huge window with his whole unprotected window to escape when there is a perfectly fine door right next to him. Also how he then ran wildly in circles, into walls and over boxes, tripping multiple times until he got cornered and eaten :D

A couple tips if you're going to play this again (which I'd love to see): - The number one thing is that playing with a mouse and keyboard is so, so much easier. - playing on a mode like builder (or making custom sandbox settings) while you learn is great so you're not being overwhelmed as soon as you go outside with very tough zombies. You'll actually get a few days to learn more mechanics and where things are. - As you can tell by now, check your health. - Zombies can follow you for ages so just running and hoping for the best probably won't work out. - Always close windows after you enter them so zombies are slowed down just a little. - cars have driver's sides, jon. And basically never have keys. - The tvs have a channel called life and living that you can watch at 9am, 12pm and 6pm to up skills (keep track of this on watches) - There are also digital watches you can set alarms on and show you the temperature. - Honestly watching a lot of tips videos does wonders because the game gives you basically nothing in the way of tutorials and you may never know something that exists (because it's so complex)

Jon, in case you don't know about this yet, the game is a rogue-like so the house you come full-circle back to continues to have the contents from how you left it last time. i believe you took something out from the containers in the closet that's why the contents changed. Since it's a rogue-like, choosing a different part of Kentucky is just the spawning point from one of the smaller towns of the Kentucky county.

Jon: Plays on hardest difficulty, with a controller that is not supported does not go well with Jons... skill level :D

Would absolutely love to see this return as a series/livestreams! I've been keeping this one on my wishlist for years, but haven't had the energy for another "wiki game" for quite a while, so I haven't bothered picking it up.

As someone who lives in Kentucky, leaving is infact out goal even before the apocalypse.

Cool to see you give this a look in, hope to see it again in future as the game has a surprising amount of depth. Quick tip: 2 handed weapons like the fire axe and baseball bat don't work as well when used in 1 hand, the axe can 1 shot zombies fairly consistently when 2-handed.

Really enjoying this video it's nice to see someone playing zomboid for the first time it has a leaning curve but it's really rewarding when you get the hang of it and get to the point your not just surviving your also building a base and learning to be self sufficient

Omg lol I’ve been playing this game for a few months now it’s great fun Edit: also I know you tend not to go with mods but they really do add to the game after you have played a lot and the developers support their modders and community with events

Some of the stuff in this game is sooo insanely detailed, like ripping cloth to make bandages, applying alchohol to make better bandages and so on. But seriously, the one thing I couldn't get over was Jon trying to get into a car on the English side instead of the American one.

Turn on the weapon outline in the options, it'll highlight when a zombie is in range, a bad/low condition weapon (fork, knife, umbrella, spoon etc) is definitely worse then no weapon, you can deal with one or 2 of them by pushing them over and stomping on them, a weapon breaking half way through a fight is a death scentance

A few tips Jon; Your walking speed is faster than the zombies, so you don't need to sprint as much. The game is set in America, so you want the left side of the cars. Clicking on the heart on the left of the screen will open the health menu. You can remove the glass shards from the broken windows by interacting with it again.

Jon not checking his health menu and bleeding out over and over again was funny.

I love how Jon bothers to lock the door even though zombies cannot open doors. Only smash them down, all he is doing is making sure he can't get in if he goes out another way

Having binged Dysmantle for 100+ hours, I just want to smash that fence and porch furniture and hammer on the house walls! If you play Dysmantle enough, you even start wanting to smash things in real life!

Going into Zomboid completely blind is the bravest thing I've ever seen, and no amount of screaming at jump-scares can ever take that away from you.

GO FOR THE EYES BOO! GO FOR THE EYES! RAAAAAAASK! (hit the em the head) 2. push and stomp will git you glory 3. food is now plentiful, dont carry it. 3. short blunt 420 to victory 4. dress in layers for d-fence 5. walls work 6. they can smell you 7. keep a schedule 8. walk dont run. running is for suckers 9. water is life, in mugs, in kettles, in pots and pans and bottles. keep it on you at all times 10. have fun!
