Those connectors are made by 3M. They are called scotchloks. They are available dry or gel filled. You don't have to strip off the wire insulation either as long as the wire size is in the correct guage range. I don't know if they are OK to use on stranded wire though. At the phone company, we only use them on solid wire, not stranded. They also make a tool to crimp them. Looks like pliers with a notched jaw.

Always use environmental splices, and splice in new wire after the wire with the corrosion in it is all removed. If you don't have Environmental Splices you can make one. Cut the bad spot out and slide on some heat shrink over the wire. Cut the wire insulation back 1/16" on both ends. Put the two 1/16" wires into each other, flatten them, then solder them. Clean them with Isoprophyl Alcohol and an acid brush cut half way down. Slide the heat shrink over the soldered joint and put a little piece of glue stick in the heat shrink on each end. Heat it until it shrinks all the way the the glue stick comes out. It works extremely well and turns regular heat shrink into an environmental splice. As a certified and trained wiring Technician in the U.S. Navy, I've done this for years on U.S. Navy Aircraft with NO issues. If the wire break is in an area that bends a lot, replace the wire in that area by splicing a wire using the same method in that area and move the now two joints to an area that doesn't bend. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya

Great find Mikey!!! That’s been happening for years. Work for dealership here. They never use floor mats on a base interior. Matted floors are terrible for keeping dirt out of the harness ditch. The problem, It’ll never go away on these work trucks. Drivers aren’t cleaning ANYTHING let alone vacuuming out the dirt. Should have Soldered the wire or use a splice with shrink seal heat shrink. Splice connectors can be acquired from Ford dealer.

I’ve into very similar issues on the 2011-up Super Duty’s. The last one I had was a no start and occasionally it would start and when it did the transmission was in limp mode. There were lots of U codes that didn’t seem to make much sense. I pulled the still plate just for a quick inspection and found the wiring harness was completely full of dirt and salt from peoples feet. After doing the tug test, I found a twisted pair wire that was green and it pulled in half with ease. After fixing that the truck worked perfectly.

I've owned, run, and rebuilt marine diesels since 1960. Except for my 7.3, all my engines in my vessels are mechanical. Only the electric starter needs power. Some start with air or hydraulics. My engines will continue to run, even with problems, including a blown rod, once blocked out of the way. On the ocean, you don't pull to the curb and wait for a tow truck. All of the diesels in my lifetime are less trouble than my 7.3. I just finished installing a new 7.3 engine wiring harness. It made a huge difference. But I never had to do that on a marine diesel.The EPA has ruined the reliability of the diesel engine. I wish they could figure out that it doesn't matter how clean the engine burns or how great the economy is if the engine doesn't run. I will say, when running, the 7.3 is the strongest engine I've had in a truck and the most unreliable. If I was a young man, I'd put a Detroit in my truck.

Excellent work finding that 👍👍. I still am a big fan of soldering in a repair section of wire, with adhesive lined heat shrink tubing over the solder repair. That tubing shrinks and the adhesive sealant squishes out each end of the repair, that is going to be a repair equal to the wire itself or better and still not much larger in size for compact areas. Man, these current modern pickups aren't going to be worth a crap when they hit 15+ years old unfortunately. 10+ cameras on a single vehicle, AC in the seats, etc etc give me a break. More wiring than the first space shuttle had

My 1999 7.3 cab lights leaked water down the pillar to the fuse box and gem module. For years I had craziest electric issues until one night pouring rain the truck started itself with alarm set. Pulled batter cables still ran put key in ignition and nothing,put it in gear and it drove with no key on and no dash on. No electrics would work. Started pulling fuses till it shut off. New roof fuse box gem Module computer dash cluster all needed to be replaced. All had green corrosion.

When I clean my f250 I usually pull that trim pice. When I worked at ford in Kansas we had issues like this from the trucks used on farms. Our detail guy would always pull those and clean that when he would detail the pick ups.

Great work as always. You fixed my 6.0 (dealer proof) and really appreciated it. Started having dead batteries after not running for 3-5 days. Then the starter went bad....... After I personally replaced the starter, the battery drain issue went away. Ever experience this?
@michaelbezos2969
@michaelbezos2969 11 ай бұрын
Low battery voltage drives the current up in the starter (or anything else) which will burn the windings. Batteries need to be up to voltage with the battery plates in tact to supply the current. I'm not an auto technician but electrical/ instrument journeyman. Bill and Mike are geniuses with years of experiencd. They've seen it all. No BS on this channel. Idiot lights are just that, need "accurate" gages to keep an eye on vitals & save big bucks on repairs before they happen. Never let electrical problems go unchecked. I dielectric grease all my connectors as most are very low voltage to & from sensors. Good hunting.
