San Juan, Puerto Rico - April 8, 2020 - Puerto Rico Coronavirus: Although the number of coronavirus cases in Puerto Rico rose to 620 this morning, the Health Department reported a slight drop in new confirmed cases with 13 fewer than those reported yesterday. However, the number of pending results stood at 1,160, which is the highest since data on the disease began to be documented on the island.
A new request from the government of Puerto Rico to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) seeks to ban flights from areas with the highest number of coronavirus cases (COVID-19) such as the states of New York and Florida. New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Illinois also appear in the request.

Finding out the contact tracing and if the infected had traveled seems to be one of the most important things to track and the government has completely ignored that. If we found that community spread is low here because of the temp, then the government is doing all of us a great disservice. Seems they are more concerned about harassing and arresting people then actually tracking the potential risk.

Unfortunately the governor’s request will not be valid unless papá America green lights it.

Hmmm, why would an 81YO woman's clinical assessment be confiscated?? What's happening and why? It appears that there may be difficulties with the team for Covid-19's organization, cooperation, and transparency. Is there a cover-up underway? What is going on? I continue to be surprised at the low amount of positive cases for my older age group, and also for the youngest age group. Plus I'm not hearing much about the 'contact tracing' that was scheduled to begin. Next: If the USA President can close it's borders and ban incoming flights, then why can't the Puerto Rico Governor close borders and ban flights? Both are the head-honchoes of their countries. I don't know about the 'terrritory' contract with the USA, but it seems like we have been relegated to some kind of a country of powerless second class citizentry. We are a country, no? I do lack 'territory' info and education, but something doesn't seem right about this. Forgive my stupidity, but what really is this 'territory' thing about? I'm going to do some research, but I'd be interested in any thoughts others may want to share about that. Anyway, I didn't intentionally mean to rattle anyone's chains/cages. (Just an expression, so don't go off the deep end). Changing the subject, I'm looking forward to being able to get to the Home Depot again. I used my last kitchen track-lighting lightbulb. According to the experts, I may end up cooking by candlelight before this ends. Listen, be safe, be healthy, always...

If you going to Home Depot, in the lighting area is a LED, USB rechargeable light ... It's about 11" long by 1" wide by 2" high with a long inch-wide circumference bulb, and 3 intensity setting switch. Less than $15, if I remember. I bought one, then a second. On the low setting it lasts a long time ... 36+ hours non-stop and although the Light is not bright, you can function in an entire large room. Just an idea in case the electricity goes off.

I doubt that will happen. Our governor in Florida stated he did not have the power to ban flights from hotspots all he could do was implement stricter screening requirements at airports. Municipal airports would have to come up with their own measures. Some people have relatives that they may want to evacuate from the island. What if they limit the number of per flight and make wearing PPE mandatory for everyone? Just a suggestion.

Jacqui E . Well then. Maybe we should make PR's incoming scanning and sequester procedures so draconian that nobody in their right mind would consider booking a flight to PR. Just saying, if that's the way the game is played... Health and safety always...

Valeree Hansen, the definition of draconian is being unusually severe or cruel! What is so draconian about wearing protective gear and limiting the number of passengers per flight if you want to minimize the spread versus banning flights from specific states? There are always alternatives, however you must compromise. I merely made a suggestion of alternative measures to avoid banning travel to PR completely for those needing to travel in emergency situations.

@@jacquie1656 . The point I'm trying to make is - if PR govt is unable to stop incoming flights. And if the only allowed thing PR govt can do is test and quarantine the incoming passengers. Then, in addition to fever testing of incoming passengers - do draconian, like make them quarantine for 24 days at their own expense. I'm sure more draconian measures can be conjured up. Sorry if I was not specific enough. Just trying to said that if the Feds won't let PR stop incoming flights, then PR, on a technically, can make it so difficult on incoming passengers that no one in their right mind would want to fly into PR. Thus, PR gets the cessation of incoming flights, using a different strategy... It's a tad devious, but when nothing else works, presto.
