Join me on a wild review where I take the new Amy Cup Vitality, aka "the screw cup" for a spin (pun intended.) This video has unplanned expletives and contains real menstrual blood visuals. When I ordered this cup I wasn't even sure what the additional tool piece was for- applicator or extractor or both? The website was unclear. The review is a long one but due to the unique nature of this product I felt filming my actual trials with it would be illuminating. I was not wrong... We call this "taking one for the team" in my line of work.
As shown I decided two times was enough trauma to endure and I'm clear in why I wouldn't recommend this product. I like to keep an open mind but the product, intended to keep you from touching your own "intimate parts" would take most (or even all) people a lot of trial and error before reaching that level, thus defeating the purpose.

I'm so tired of people "designing" products for women's bodies that are clearly ignorant and potentially destructive. If a young girl was insecure, and this was her first cup experience, it would be directly harmful to her.

Men have been pulling that kind of shit for centuries. Before hysteria it was common to burn us at the stake. Before that we were shipped off to nunneries if we had an once of spine. It was still legal to rape your wife until the 1990s. I'm never surprised at what men will do to get their way. That's why I raised my sons to be decent human beings who speak out about things like that. One of them beat the shit out of a guy beating his gf last summer. We helped her find a new place to live too. Been there, done that. If I had been one of grandma's sisters I'm sure I would have been shipped off to an asylum when the couldn't get me to shut up. Even JFK's younger sister was lobotomized on her father's orders since she was "too opinionated."

This isn’t related, but you guys have helped me switch to cups! I’m 14 years old and I had a previously traumatic experience with a cup that was too big for me, but now I have switched to the Organicup Mini. It’s amazing and I wish I had tried it sooner!

What happened with the cup that was too big? I'm 15 and recently had a really bad reaction to a cup too and I'm not sure if it was just too big or if the suction triggered a nerve and I just can't use cups.

@@hannahgendron7094 This might be TMI, but I had to force it in there more than I probably should have and it hurt pretty bad, but then when I tried to take it out the suction wouldn't release and I had to cut the end and pull it out through a hole I made.

Hannah Gendron May I ask what happened in your experience? When I tried a cup for the first time (Lena small) I guess I pushed it too far up that it hit a nerve or something and I immediately felt light headed. So I took out the cup and I felt so dizzy, clammy, my heart rate dropped and I had the worst cramps ever. I nearly fainted. As traumatizing as that was I still want to give the cup another go next cycle, maybe even try a cup that’s more sensitive or smaller. I also wanted to add that I have given birth to one child and I’m not afraid of blood at all. It purely was a physical reaction to the cup.

Cayela Bona Oh my gosh that’s awful! Mine just got really stuck and was very painful (because it was too big) and then the suction wouldn’t release. Since it was so big, pulling it out was quite literally tearing me, so we had to take scissors and cut the bottom to release the suction.

The general rule for cups is to not use the stem to pull your cup out. This cup is like, "Here's a giant screwable stem for you to yank on, good luck."

I don't normally film trials because TBH they're not usually interesting... I think I did for using a disc and for this. Otherwise, because cups are about all the same for me to put in and remove, it would be super boring. THIS was a whole new animal. -Kim

I feel like "here's a cup to keep you from having to interact with your 'intimate parts' in any way shape or form" TOTALLY UNDERMINES the entire...message? behind using a cup. Like, I specifically STARTED using one BECAUSE it's pretty much a crash course in your own body and cycle, so any company that wants to put out branding like "here's a cup for people who don't want to interact with their DIRTY UNCLEAN BODY" can stay about 100000 miles away from my period, thanks but no thanks. also, how are you supposed to break the suction if you can't/won't squeeze the base to disrupt the seal?? That's not how cups work, jeez.

Is don't think is that deep, some people just don't like blood un general. This cup Is just a failure on design. I use the flex cup and i would recomend it for someone who wants minimal contact with the blood.

Wow you looked really frustrated, I'm sorry you had to use this torture device to show us why that cup is trash. But thank you for doing so. You guys are doing great work and really encouraging women like me who are fed up with pads. But I'm completely disinterested in tampons, just no thank you. Woah. Firstly, this thing looks like the result of some unholy union between the shame bell and a sink plunger. Secondly, the idea of using something that requires me to perform a blind dexterity test before it will work is not massively appealing to me under most circumstances, but when I'm sitting on a toilet, that's definitely a hard no. Thirdly, after all that time demonstrating your capability for tool use, not only do you not get a food pellet like a good little lab rat, it doesn't even break the seal and you get the agony of attempting to "extract" the cup when the seal is still in tact. Gah! The only explanation I can come up with is that the company who developed this doesn't employ anyone with a vagina. Thanks for trying it, so we didn't have to, Kim.

I’m thinking of those who can’t move and rely on a caretaker for bathing and dressing. This sounds like an attempt at providing a eco friendly way of including those menstruating ppl who rely on someone else inserting and removing the cup. The reduced contact seems warranted in that one situation. But honestly it looks like a hazard. The inability to release the suction can cause serious pain and harm. They need way more ....everything - testing , research, women etc.

OMG! That was MY reddit! I'm honored. I'd have tried it myself, but I'm pregnant right now. They had another cup just called Amy Cup that had an applicator that both inserted and extracted the cup. I don't have a problem putting my fingers in there, even when I"m on my period. But, I have friends who find that too eeeewwww on their period. That is why these cups interest me. From this video, it looks like this cup isn't going to help me convince friends to try a cup.

As someone who would say "no" to using a cup, watching this video actually did the opposite for me. It made me consider that they are probably not that bad. Before this video I looked at all cups like an uncomfortable torture device, but now I can clearly see that just wasn't the case. This highlighted what's easy and difficult in a way I'd never seen before, Ironically making me see the usual cups in a much better light by comparison. Now I have a better understanding, especially when she explained that her sense of touch was very important to the process of using it easily. This cup made the others look simple, when before they had all kind of seemed "scary."

Even if the screw worked after that long pulling into your cervix it would cause you a prolapse. It would make sense if the screw would break the seal and it made a sort of pipe to get rid of the discharge, while the cup stays in. This is very dangerous.

I feel like if you absolutely don't want to use your hands period, you shouldn't be using a cup. If you're that concerned, maybe just use pads (I would suggest cloth here, because I really love cloth pads, but you do have to wash them and I know my personal wash routine does involve bloody hands which would probably bother anyone who cared enough to go to these extremes).

I've actually seen a "cup extractor" on amazon, they're just a long pair of tweezers with silicone covered tips. They're very much like the tweezers that are used to help remove contact lenses, but like 2 times longer than a menstrual cup (I didn't read the details of the product so the length of the tweezers were purely based off the picture provided o.O).

I'm glad I found my cup first try (with your quiz) because I HIGHLY doubt this would work for me either. I've never been able to find my cervix so I assume it's super high, and I always have a wicked suction, so I feel like this would be stuck forever LOL

My one thought was that this might be good for people with wrist issues or other disabilities but seeing as it’s shitty and doesn’t break the seal then it doesn’t actually do anything. I’ve found that a lot of things meant for disabled people are advertised stupidly (like those commercials that have able bodied people being a spaz and knocking a bowl off a table)

I recently tried a menstrual cup, OrganiCup mini, but could NOT get it in whatsoever, I tried the different folds and the damn thing kept popping open way before I could get it in, also, my uh...juices made it super slippery so my fingers couldn't get a good grasp on it. So there's that. I can safely say cups aren't for me, I'll stick with cloth pads.

Not willing to try other brands. Looking through the comments, different women have different experiences with different brands. It's the same with pads for me. There are some that always lead to accidents for me and others that don't.

I've been using menstrual cup since 4 months now and I'm really happy I made this switch. Llife has never been this easy! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us..it's so good to have such a community out there to help. I wanted to ask something..I've notice huge clots in my menstrual blood is it normal to have clots or should I go see a gyanecologist. Can you please make a video on this! I’m glad that there are so many cups on the market with different design options. Unfortunately, I think the concept has also opened the doors to all sorts of strange gimmicky features that won’t work at all just to try and sell and capitalize on severely poor marketing. That’s what I saw immediately with this.

Wow, I can't see how this would work for anyone! It kind of looks like something you'd find in a kid's tool box or...something.😂 I use the Mooncup and have done for years. I was lucky to find one that works for me first time but I know others have to try quite a few before finding 'the one'. Thanks for all your hard and important work! ♥️

I mean I have short arms and a long torso and have trouble reaching into my vag far enough to retrieve a cup so if something like this worked that'd be great. Too bad.

That was the only real hope for this, that it would be a help to anyone with a high cervix or with that combination of short arms/fingers that can't reach their cup. But the screw tool doesn't break the suction and for that reason it can't really be used to retrieve the cup. I tried wiggling side to side to gently lower it first... #nope still suctioned and wouldn't budge.

Does anyone know if down there wipes are okay to use to clean a menstrual cup? I know you can just bring a water bottle and rinse the cup off but I don't usually carry around a water bottle when I'm out, and the wipes meant for menstrual cups are quite expensive, roughly 90 cents per wipe, so the cost really racks up during the heavy flow days.

I bought both sizes for high cervix, and I was thinking about trying them, but now I'm really-really scared. What Kim said seems reasonable, especially the part when she talks about her cup tilting and turning the wrong way, so the screw doesn't find its way in. Ouch! I have so high cervix that I can only rely on this device. I'm afraid to give it a try.

If you have a high cervix and you'd otherwise have to pinch the base to remove the cup if you can't, in fact, find the hole with this tool... I would possibly not attempt. I know my body really well and I know cups, if I had a high cervix I can't imagine how getting this out would have gone. The first time when I couldn't find or get the screw into the hole I was desperately grabbing at the little flange to get it out because the cup is so slick and round- I worried I wouldn't be able to get it out! Additionally making things harder is that you can't really pinch the base because it's full of that screw cave... it's a recipe for disaster the more I think about it. -K

@@PutACupInIt Wow, thank you for answering! ❤ It makes me sad that I won't be able to try it, but I must resist. 😃 Just to tell you an example, I cant reach for none of the Super Jennies' stems. I use my Juju mod 3, and Lali Cup L mostly, but still have to reach waay in.. So my friends are often teasing me with "your cervix is closer if swallowing the cups." Lol. Many greetings from Budapest, Hungary BTW! 😃 and thank you for the video. It indeed saved me from trouble. 😃

I've tried it and it was surprisingly not as "big" as I assumed as far as wear goes, but because my flow isn't super heavy I'm not able to really give it a true review. I ended up giving it to a friend so I don't have to anymore :( -Kim

Thank you for your feedback!! What did you think of the suction? I keep seeing that since it doesn't have vent holes, that the suction is kind of intense and it's tricky to open.

OMG! That looked so painful. I use a cup too but Jesus that was intense. I completely felt your pain. I'm on day one and I always cramp the first day. A little more with the cup and the first cup removal of my period is a little pain but damn that hurt me just to watch.

My dumba** thought it was like a "puncture" type of thing to make it drain the blood for like times when the cup is full but you're not in an easy accessible cleaning space. I was very confused but somehow more terrified of the torture device it really is.

I agree it's important to get familiar with your body but if you're somebody who is older that's already familiar with everything comfortable with your body it would be convenient if there was a way to create an applicator because that way you wouldn't feel like you need to wash your hands before and after using the bathroom. I would still always do it after but before sometimes can be a bit of a pain but there is a lot of germs on your hands.

I have been an avid cup user for years. I was somewhat intrigued by this cup, like anyone, and was subsequently turned off by this cup after this review. So I decided to venture over to the AMYCUP website. I noticed two things. 1) their story page came up in a language other than english and was very difficult to change. But nothing else on their page was in this language. Just the story page. 2) this was the very beginning of their story "As far back as 1952 Sergio Pitacco rose to the headlines by graduating as the youngest mechanical engineer in Italy. After about 70 years, the 1965 patent of the American Waldron resumes to develop his cup." So like many people have commented, this cup was most certainly designed by a man 😂

Okay, this is an incredibly weird question and I'm sorry. But, I'm a transgender man with a significant amount of dysphoria (read as intense discomfort, if you must) related to the vag-bits. How much can you feel a cup while it's inside? Will it cause cramps the way tampons do? Would you recommend them for someone who wants to just set it and forget it as it were? thanks for your videos no matter what, super informative!

Hey! So I have used tampons, pads, and I hated them. I could feel them and it was so uncomfortable and they leaked. I have a very very heavy flow as well. I use “Softdiscs” which are 10$ for 12 and disposable, it’s flatter and sits just under the cervix. I can’t feel it at all, I don’t even need back ups when I wear it, and I wear one for up to 18 hours (12 recommended). I recommend this for you. No cramps too! A little messy getting it out, but it’s worth it. Not a weird question at all! That’s what the channel is for, right?

Don't give up on cups with tools. I have been half way searching for a good one, because I have lupus which attacks my joints. Some mornings when i'm having a flair up my grip strength isn't strong enough to get my cup out. I'm currently in that situation which is why i watched this video. I was hoping this cup was a good solution but after hearing your review I definitely won't try it out. But hopefully one day someone will make a cup that doesn't rely so much on having fully functioning hands that actually works haha.

There is the Flex Cup which has a pull tab that often breaks the suction - the feedback is overall pretty positive so I would look into that. Meluna also seems to have a tool they don't market I just learned about which works by hooking a cup with a ring stem, but again it's like this product where it isn't breaking the stem. Also someone sells some sort of "scoop" to help break a cup's seal, and while I wouldn't recommend it for most it could be a helpful product for you. I just have not tried it myself. -K

@@PutACupInIt Wow this is awesome! Thanks for the response. I have considered the flex cup in the past but some of the advertisements were really off putting. One add popped up on my instagram saying that menstrual cups were gross and stinky and thats why people should get the flex cup. I was so turned off I was like I'm definitely not supporting that. But I think they have retracted that kind of marketing and desperate times call for desperate measures. My fingers were not putting up with it this morning hahaha. Thanks again for your help. I'll check those other ones out as well!

@@4TheLoveofLauren Yeah, I get that and I still have a pretty bad taste in my mouth about Flex both in how they approached their marketing as a disc and also how they did an about face when they purchased the design for their cup. But if the cup's design is one that will help you I would certainly say to use it and know in your heart it was designed by someone else ;) They just bought them out. It's a hard line to walk when you don't support a brand but they offer a cup that helps people and so if/when the use case arises I'm always going to at least mention them and the consumer can make that call. I do hope you find a cup that is easier for you to use! Perhaps a reusable disc like Lumma with a removal stem is also a consideration, there is no suction to break and the removal string can just be pulled for removal. It's just a bit messy! -K

This cup is neither a use, nor an ornament. I can't imagine a newbie using this, it would scar them. Cups really aren't that hard, and if you are having a lot of trouble taking your cup out each time then it is not the cup for you. Unfortunately you need to try a few to find your Goldilocks cup. Thankfully the first cup I bought (the Sibell cup) was my Goldilocks cup

WHAT IF instead of a screw it were tweezers that pinched the bottom of the cup to break the seal and the people who don’t like touching their “intimate parts” could use it to pull the cup down

I tried the femmycycle cup and it suctioned horribly to my cervix which was terrifying. I found out only after yall didn't reccomend it for that reason. Ended up getting a size larger in my salt soft and what do you know it is totally my miracle cup. Should have just listened to yall from the start is what I learned.

I'm sorry but I've never heard a person refer to their vagina as intimate parts that weren't very old people or deeply uncomfortable with their body. I can't image those people would be comfortable with a cup with a screw on it. It makes sense that the maker of the Amy cups is not a person with a vagina, because I don't think this cup was well designed at all.
