Journey to the Chateau

Journey to the Chateau

Жыл бұрын

In this week's episode, Patrick and Stuart are starting to put the chateau kitchen together by refinishing the original pot rack and then return it to the chateau cuisine for their copper pots. Stuart adds the handle hardware that they selected for the new kitchen cabinetry, and they have a return visit of their tree service to remove the remaining trees that threaten to damage the pigeonnier (dovecote) and the large vacherie building.
Thank you to Bellonet Élagage in Châteaunuf-sur-Cher for their fast and professional service.

What a magnificent pot you bought! That meticulous repair is everything! Having it re-tinned is a worthwhile investment, it will last another 100 years of cooking! These object when not used bring so much warmth and charm to a kitchen, must feel great to get that rack in order now instead of waiting with all that until you're done with everything, bc life is NOW and there's always something in need of repair or spiffing up. Creating that inspirational moment in every room can be a great motivator too, and insures you use the rooms yet to be renovated, which in turn informs you what colors and feel you want in each space, how the light falls, etc. I think the lifestyle really involves finding joy and beauty along the way in the portions achievable whilst the progress and process is ongoing and will probably always be. It requires a certain mentality, on the one hand an ability to visualize, to organize, to roll up your sleeves, on the other the ability to be content with all the small discoveries and moments of comfort and joy. You have to be bohemian and concerned with getting things done with the right methods and materials at the same time, you need to have alot of patience and an eye for the simple joys of everyday life. What I might have of any of these qualities I attribute to my Grandmother who I was very close to and who lived 6 months shy of a century. She was of that generation who grew up in tgese grand old houses yet could sustain themselves in a cottage without plumbing when fate required it. (I'm nowhere near her level of diciplined structure, gratitude or flair, so I do call on her when I need to channel these things). I wonder where you guys got your attitude, resourcefulness, and faith in the balances of the great scheme of things? Are there specific people or life experiences that shaped your characters in preparation for this lifestyle do you think? I'm curious 😉 Drinking up the greenery and bulbous florals with my winter-weary eyes here in the far north. All we've had so far is the odd crocus. 🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷💕

Wow, just wow. The tree removal made a huge difference to that area. Loved this vlog…copper pot and all. Anxiously awaiting the cabinet reveal. Patrick, you and Stuart are accomplishing so much in such a short period of time. Must be that little bit of Americanism you experienced while living here. 🤪 Love your channel and, yes, still watching from PA, USA. 🇺🇸 Pray for us…what a nightmare this President is and the destruction to America deeply saddens me. Your channel truly gives me much pleasure in an otherwise disturbing world.

Love the very big pot and it's amazing how it has been fixed!! You do not see that every day. It will return all sparkling and ready for use. Glad the extra trees have gone, not to worry about the firewood, it will get used later on. Would be lovely to see more of the kitchen on Friday, love the flowers it makes everything so grand. Hi guys! The pot rack looks divine! That French gray is so beautiful! Patrick, you had me rolling on the floor when you were talking about the roof for the barn, and all you could think I was Madonna. I knew what you meant you wicked wicked little monkey lol.😂. What we can see of the kitchen it’s absolutely glorious. It’s so good to see those trees gone. Now you can actually plant where you want to plant. The editing with the music was absolutely fantastic with the trees coming down. The flowers are gorgeous. My gosh you guys just done so much. You must’ve had so much fun going antiquing. You are absolutely in the perfect spot for copper pots. A little bit of copper envy here. I do have a beautiful, copper tea kettle that’s quite large from Germany so Neener, Neener Patrick LOL. Can’t wait to see the one on Friday. Oh I got my second chuckle when Stewart was trying to rein you in, while he was trying to talk about the trees. I lost it again. You guys just crack me up. Sending lots of love. 💜🤗🤟🏻🇺🇸

Also, I just want to say how relaxed the both of you are now in front of the Camera..the kitchen looks lovely..love you guys!

Great vlog fellows! Love what you’ve done so far in the kitchen. The pot rack looks fabulous! I was thinking though that if you stood the lid of the top pot on the side of the bottom you could place a plant in it. Also love the new pot you bought. I agree it is hefty! Perhaps when you have it relined you could get a grab handle installed on the side opposite the handle to help lift it when full. Also aren’t your tulips glorious! You must be thrilled with all your bulbs in flower both inside and out. Good work on getting the trees down. Sensible decision. I look forward to seeing Stuart’s cabinet installed. By the way great music choice Stuart for the tree felling. I could feel them drop! A bientot my friends. 🥰🥰

The kitchen looks beautiful love how the pot holder behind you came out . Your copper pots are beautiful. I also use the white vinegar salt and flour method to polish the copper I find the addition of the flour makes a paste and it works awesome. The flowers really set off the counter everything looks so inviting. Nice you are finally using the space. I also love the brass handles very nice. Also for your interest, the vinegar salt paste works on brass as well. May come in handy at a later date.

@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452 yes they are beautiful...also a tip for cast iron I have a love for it as well food grade beeswax melted with olive oil pour it into a small metal or glass container and season your cast iron with it . Works beautifully no build up and and has health benefits too. You can also use grapeseed oil it has a high smoke rating.

I am excited about the home-made cabinet for the sink. It will make the kitchen quite literally "yours"! That will be just so wonderful. The story behind the copper pot is every bit as important as the pot, itself. The things in our lives should be special, for whatever reason. Things might be cheaper at Ikea or Walmart, but they don't have any soul.

Dear Stuart, the cabinets are beautiful and you definitely should be proud of your accomplishment. Patrick, the paint is perfect, the pot rack and copper pots make the kitchen bright yet warm and welcoming! Adding that wall gives you so much additional cabinet space. You both must be thrilled. It’s a lot of work but it will be the heart of the home and everything you do in the chateau moving forward, will be easier now that you have a beautiful kitchen to cook, entertain and relax in, after a long day of renovations. It was a wise decision to take down those trees. They weren’t grand old trees, but were causing more harm than good. I love your decision process of where and when to spend your money. The kitchen is truly the heart of the chateau and after a long day, it is a great place to cook and relax as well. We try to be mindful where and how we spend our money. Since we don’t have that many subscribers and viewers and no actual income, we do need to be careful. I just love your comments. Thoughtful and caring. Much love from Colombe. 🌷🥰🌷

Messieurs, Ducs de Colombe, your kitchen is becoming absolutely gorgeous! I love the French by Little Green, used it myself. I never knew vinegar could used to clean copper, thank you. And your pots are beautiful, truly belonging to a château kitchen and your latest , a true jewel of a pot. Congratulations on the cutting down of the trees, way too dangerous for the surrounding buildings. Well done, that's the true spirit of conservation of cultural heritage!

Wow, your kitchen is gorgeous...the cupboards, the copper pots hanging up...what a transformation! Having the trees thinned out makes everything look grand! Your copper pot is huge and obviously a gem, but please don't boil your head in it Patrick! Stuart, good luck finishing the cabinet for the sink....I heard Patrick's comment "you had better"! You two are my favourite couple and a joy to know, even from a distance!

Hi there. Hope all is well. We are a pretty good team….. 😊 We will have rose blooms in a few wools. 😮😊. Glad you like the cabinets and progress so far. There is more to come and we are excited. Pigeonner…… Oh well. We want to save it. Maybe a fundraiser at some point. It’ll be about 55000€……. But well worth it. Huge hugs from Colombe. ❤

Lovely as always. ❤ As much as I enjoy watching you work on projects, I must say I most enjoy listening to the two of you chatting about stuff. Your chemistry is amazing. Especially when “one of you” goes off-topic and the “other one” reels you in. Always puts a great big smile on my face. 😊 Thanks for allowing us to get to know you. Looking forward to making my contribution to the Madonna Bra tower when the time comes. (Did I tell you Max and I have tickets to her Four Decades Celebration Tour in July?) Big hugs to you both. ❤❤

Everything is looking marvelous! To save money, the tree stumps that are left behind after cutting, take and drill large holes in the tops of the stumps then get some fire starter used for starting campfires, put them in the drilled holes and start the fire, eventually the tree stumps will disintegrate.
@JourneytotheChateau
@JourneytotheChateau Жыл бұрын
Thank you, martha. We will rent a stump grinder, which we have done before. We want to be able to mow in many of these areas and not have to work around them and wait for them to disintegrate naturally.

Well done Gents... you are step by step reaping the rewards of all your hard work. It is wonderful to be able to join you and cheer from a far as you move forward in all your endeavors. The tree removal was great. However... I will never be able to look at the pigeon tower now with out thinking of Madonna... The look on your face Stuart when Patrick made that reference made me burst out with laughter! Your "point" was well taken Patrick! Thanks for sharing it with us all. You’ll have to find one of those nice old wicker shopping baskets on wheels for brocantes so you don’t have to carry a 12# pot around (something I’d do). My husband was annoyed that I bought a lovely big old farmers cream separater bowl, terracotta with a cream and green splatter glaze on the inside, at a brocante at almost the very start of our trip in France, knowing we’d have to lug it carefully for days and then lug it carefully back to San Francisco
