Well, buy-to-rent mortgages often just charge the interest while letting the original loan sit there until the contract term ends, and then you pay off the full sum. The idea being that as long as you have the initial 25%-or-so deposit, you can just get good income from the get go, and just sell the house at the end as long as the property value didn't fall since then. (Which, considering the timescale of mortgages, is not too likely as long as the house is taken care of) That said, still crazy to think most people can just buy themselves a house every year.

For a property to leave you with a net monthly profit of $500, at least where I'm at, the property needs to be 100sqm/1100sqft of high quality living space, which goes for about $300.000 to $400.000. So her advice is basically 'Just spend 350k a year lol' Or she's trying for a 10-20% down mortgage, which a bank isn't just going to grant you without good evidence of stable income. Even if you can somehow find a bank that ignores all safeguards, after 6 years you "own" 420k worth of real estate with a debt to the bank of nearly 1.7m. All this to make a profit of $30k/y from renters? Even if one could, I'm not sure one should. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure landlords can make quite good money, but you kind of need to start with either a high paying job or family money to just start spending 350k a year on real estate, Hell, even to spend 70K a year for 20% down high risk mortgage you need those things. I think she's semi-detached (get it? Real estate pun!) from reality.

I believe that putting in effort in a job is important, even just for your own self-respect, but whenever I see those “Work all day and give up everything for your career now and enjoy the benefits later” posts, all I can think of is the one guy I knew in real life who had that mentality (he wasn’t a douche who preached it to others, but it was clearly something he believed). Turns out he had inoperable cancer and tragically passed away at just 56, four years before his big retirement plans to travel Europe with his wife. He gave up so much and never even got to enjoy it. His was an especially bad case, but I’ve seen people throw away their families, health, and give up everything for their careers….I don’t think it’s ever been worth it

If a company can't even keep its hiring schedule, you wouldn't want to work there even if it wasn't deliberate. If that story were true (it isn't, I'm sure), it would only mean that those last two people were _incredibly_ desperate for a job. Hiring people like that is the sort of thing that would lead to having managers who think desperation makes for good workers.

Arguably, if she wants the typical Welsh pronunciation, *she isn't even spelling the name right.* It should be "Siân" with a circumflex over the "a".

One was an unpaid internship, the other paid a lot but ignored me when I said I couldn't interview that day. I said I wouldn't be able to interview in literally eight minutes, but the guy was just like, "ok here's how we'll do the interview." I bet he didn't even read my emails. Also, all his emails were written in Comic Sans. This was a fancy architecture company. I ended up just taking the unpaid internship. I have a paying part-time job anyway.

The funny thing about Sian, is spelling it like that would make it pronounced "shun". I have a friend with that name, and she _hates_ it when people spell it "Sian". 18 hour workdays are obvious bs anyway, but please keep in mind the average person needs 8-10 hours sleep and the 18 hour day nets you 6 hours sleep maximum assuming you never eat and there is no commute. No friends, no family, no hobbies, no bathroom breaks, no exercise, nothing. Assuming everything takes one hour (meal prep/cooking, commute, exercise, hobbies, time with friends, etc) that's 2-3 hours meal time, 2 hour commute, 8 hour sleep, 1 hobby, 1 social, 1 exercise, 2 rest/self care, that's already 18 hours. That leaves 6 hours for work if time is 100% efficient. That is the maximum one can work being healthy. On top of that you're expected to have a side hustle to live? When people say there isn't enough time, it isn't about health not being achievable, it's about health not being achievable when time is monopolised in such a way

20:40 - this actually happened in a non profit I used to work for. I was paid because they did have other avenues of income, they wanted to do full on E- commerce but didn't want to pay for super experienced people. They wanted to rely on volunteers. In the end it ended up with a team of 2, I got burned out and had to take leave because my mental health was shot to bits after my boss left and they hadn't bothered hiring a new project lead so I was soloing a post-christmad backlog. Yeah they eventually got some people to work on it and were then complaining how far behind they still were after the few months I was away. And I was like 'yeah no shit, why do you think I had a nervous breakdown'. So yeah.... I was literally holding that together until they had to axe the project. Too much feet dragging over decisions higher up, a corrupt head of retail that last I heard was being investigated for some illegal activity, he kinda got the last word having made me redundant, but there he did lose out on a sizeable pension by 'taking early retirement'. It's not fun being the one person holding things together. Likely that one person is never paid enough for what they do.

I think I only started a LinkedIn account because when I had my contract terminated unfairly by my last job and was trying to apply for a position with the Coca-Cola company, they wouldn't take any applications that were not through LinkedIn oddly enough... completely forgot this thing exists half the time.

When I introduce myself, people repeat my name back incorrectly. Like, they are far off. So when I correct them, they look at me all confused like "That's what I said"

Robin's right about the name pronunciation. My name is pronounced rather differently from how it's written, because my mother liked the spelling of one, but hated how it sounded. So she took the pronunciation of another, which she hated the spelling off. It's a fun thing to try to explain to people, so I just go by my middle name, which is "normal".

15:08 "As a candidate, I do feel like it's disrespectful to interview multiple candidates at the same time. If your interest is purely finding a slave and not paying people fairly, then you should be upfront about that. A lot of candidates want companies that are recruiting to find employees, not just slaves. Agree?"

What bugs me the most are the posts that use their children for clout, especially the ones with actual pictures of their children. It isn't Facebook and it certainly isn't immune to creeps.

The one where the Boss and the HR manager are talking about "it costs less to keep staff than replace them." reminds me of a lot of companies today who are just taking anyone who has worked for the company past a certain amount of time and firing them since they are paid the most. Also, advertising and training to fill that position, if they choose to fill it? Nah, print up a now hiring sign and tape it to the front window. Problem solved. No need to pay people any more. This is why companies like Best Buy are doomed.

some middle manager in linkedin: "i dont usually share personal stuff but..." good, keep it that way; you have survived this far without sharing personal crap and you dont need to fix something that isnt broken. not to mention you are a middle manager, there is no depth to your personality beyond posts like that.

22:20 I'm pretty it IS actually "equal & opposite reaction" . "or" doesn't really make sense in that context.

yeah, equal in magnitude, opposite in direction. you push on something and it pushes back at you just as hard, that's why your hand doesn't phase through it like you're Kitty Pryde.

18:52 Yeah personally I agree her for a different reason, a wedding feels like a very special, very solemn celebration that should really only be between you, the person you have chosen to die with you love them so much, and (optionally) a relevant priest/officiant for whatever religions the two of you may believe in.

That 18 hrs a day post saying that spending time with family is important but "not that early?" My immediate thought is so what happens when your beloved family member dies unexpectedly and you lost your chance to spend any time with them because it was "too early" to be important? Gonna regret that one for the rest of your life.
