In my case, I always read novel while on bed (before sleeping). After reading for like 30 mins (usually reads non fiction, as fiction often hooks me up to the story), my eyes strain and I get tired. Then I sleep very well! No energy for thoughts to run in my mind. So if anyone is having trouble sleeping, I would definitely recommend reading novels while lying down on bed!
@onograce1327

i do this a lot, and when i’m already pretty tired, it works wonders. but sometimes i get really invested in the story and lose sleep 😂 so i guess read something that’s not super engaging but interesting enough to keep your attention until you’re ready to sleep

I'll wake up in the night, but only half way, in a semi-conscious state. I'm not actually conscious of my environment or of sound but I'm totally absorbed in my mind, in my thinking; and like you said often just random repetitive thinking about some topic. And then after some time I'll become come to my senses, literally haha. Its so strange, if I have a fan on I literally observe the moment that my hearing-sense opens and I become conscious of the sound of the fan, where before I couldn't hear it at all.

As much as i am so grateful for these meditation videos, It's sad this one didn't work for me because counting backwards was so difficult for me. it reminded me how terrible i am at math and every opportunities i had missed in life because of it. the pain and regrets that suddenly took over me during this session was a surprise. But i think i can now fall asleep with my brain tired from the attempt to count… doesnt seem like anyone's having a problem, but if there's anyone by chance who's not good at counting you’re not alone.

Thank you very much sir. Idk if this is going to help but just watching the video has helped me feel more confident in sleeping. I started two weeks ago when I had a episode when my anti depression medication had as effect reacting with my ibuprofen (I’m 14 year old female) and gave me a panic attack and severe ainxiety and insomnia for a week. I’m starting to work over it and had a hiccup yesterday night where I was un able to sleep. I’ll be okay tonight.

First thing first - are you trying to be calm? 3 things to check - do not block thoughts, judge thoughts, control thoughts. Let them come and let them go - like clouds come and go in the sky. Be the WITNESS to this whole internal phenomena. See how these pieces are the reason why these things happen to you. Next: meditate on the sensations itself. Just be a WITNESS to these sensations.Nothing, NOTHING in this world is permanent. These sensations, thoughts etc these frequency, intensity will keep changing. Become a curious observer to all this. Last: As you practice this, slowly your mind will free itself. It takes a while. At first, if your mind gets wilder - it is a GOOD sign. Sign that it is readying to free up. We call this waterfall experience. When you clean a dirty cup, it looks like cup is getting dirtier when you pour water to it - but in reality it is getting cleaner. Try and let me know if you have questions. Atleast give it a month or two.

@@DhavalKenia thanks! It’s been 2 months since the month long episode and I’ve been traveling around the world, and honestly I’m a different person now and I can sleep, but I will practice what you told me! It really means a lot you sent that. You are a kind human. If you wanted context here’s it short, March 27th 2023 6am I found out my best friend committed suicide. It was a very dark and depressive moment for me as I was the only person mentioned in his good bye note. I felt like it was my fault and started to fall into a deep spiral that felt un escape-able. Went to the doctor to get meds and then they responded terribly on the third day giving me Hallucinations, insomnia, racing heart, and dissociation for three weeks before recovering but the insomnia stayed, I’m much better now but I strive to be better and better.

The more you practice observing your thoughts eg through practicing meditation or in therapy, the more you catch them at the beginning and become aware and conscious of their origins and how your mind likes to catch hold of them and tread the same familiar patterns. My advice would be to break that pattern once those thoughts come up. Think of it like a emergency button. Once you start over thinking, get up and do something. Like cleaning, work, hobbies, learning something new helps too. The plan is to break that habit of over thinking.

I have bad cough at the moment, and to meditate is hard enough let alone breathe normally... This is too hard for me if I'm not healthy and well...

Counting backwards from 10,000 isn’t difficult or relaxing. It’s really stressful to tell me to do that, though, if you’re going to continue talking, especially if you tell me to randomly mess up and stop on purpose. How is that supposed to be relaxing? My mind is racing because I’m neurotic. Now I’m going to be up counting down until my alarm goes off, as it’s already almost 5:00, and it will take a bit under 3 hours to count all the way down. Thanks a lot.

Really? That is the whole point - for you to forget it . - gently Then just start from 0 to 10,000 - I bet you won’t be able to get to Atleast to 100 and you will be already asleep

I honestly agree, 100 would have felt a lot less stressfull, or just 10 over and over. Especially when he kept talking while I was trying to focus on counting, it just irritated me awake.

It doesn’t take very long to count down to 100 though so your thoughts would just come back again. The whole point is that the number is so ridiculously high that you won’t be able to count down to 1 before you go to sleep.

The number counting distracts your brain from the stressful racing thoughts by narrowing it down to one single thought. The narrator talks over the counting to remind you that it doesn’t matter if you forget a number, just move on to the next one; they also know that people’s counting will get interrupted by their racing thoughts, so he’s essentially talking over those negative thoughts. Obviously if someone’s prone to obsessive compulsion it might not be the right exercise for them, in which case it might be best to look at something specifically targeted at people with obsessive compulsive thoughts.

Your voice is way to loud. There needs to be a soft whisper calm voice. This wakes yiu up bot calms you.

To be honest, this is terrible advice. Counting never helped me with racing thoughts, and making sure I was counting correctly would make me more awake at night. What works for me, when I need to calm racing thoughts at night, is to imagine a character going through the same trauma or depression that I'm currently feeling. That way, it detaches the feelings from me, as though I'm reacting to another's pain, and thus makes it less painful. Additionally, it helps in treating the source of the racing thoughts (trauma or depression or whatever else) in the gentle, logical way that you'd treat someone else's pain. If I skip this venting daydream before bed, I will often have terrible nightmares, because I went to sleep with those trauma or depression chemicals still active in my body. Once I feel like all the emotions are out and the character has either found comfort or their story reaches a point when it isn't moving for me anymore, I prefer to focus on colors in my mind, and on the sleepy feelings in my body and mind.

I don't think it's really terrible advice, it works well for me. I think it's more of a preference when it comes to your case. It would probably be best for you to continue your own method with relaxing sounds as background noise, rather than hearing his specific instructions.
