Yea I was pretty impressed as well, they perform admirably on most titles @ high settings and can be overclocked upto an extra 20% if you get a good one, which puts them at stock r9 280x performance. I was actually considering doing an overclocking video for you guys to extract every drop of performance out of this golden oldie, let me know if that would interest you?

It would interest me, I've overclocked it before, but never changed the voltage due to having a 500w psu and not wanting to risk drawing too much power and blowing my computer up.

Adding voltage to my card did nothing for my overclock, however every card overclocks slightly different and it depends whether you use MSI Afterburner or Sapphire's Trixx

Federico Eiriz 100% agree with you, provided you can pick one up for about £60 on the second hand market they offer tremendous bang for ya buck. FYI, I have an updated video with this versus a GTX 770 on all the latest titles including Prey, BF1, Mass effect Andromeda, Doom, etc.

Thanks, I do try to produce the best quality to my ability in every video but I'm still in my infancy at the moment :-) Yea I meant it when I said I didn't even miss my 980 ti thats how impressed I was with this card. On a side note Doom ran really well on this card as well but AMD relive just wouldn't play ball I was getting over 70fps on high settings most the time. If you can pick this up for £50 - £60 ($60 - $70) it's great for the price.

Harpskid, Please check first you have the latest version of MSI afterburner and latest Radeon drivers, if you haven't already go to MSI afterburner and in settings tick unlock voltage otherwise you won't be able to overvolt your card. You'll know if you've done it right because it will ask you to restart. Let me know if this works for you dude. Don't tick force voltage there's no need to pump loads voltage through your card when it's idle.

Harpskid, If this doesn't work try downloading Trixx from Sapphire it's an overclocking utility similar to Afterburner but will allow some HD 7950/R9 280's cards the voltage increase option, beware some models are voltaged locked. The only other option is to see if your card has 2 bios options which is normally a switch on the side of the card and sometimes one of them is unlocked. Elia Franzini the FX 6300 or FX 8350 will both perform pretty similar with a 7950 there isn't much between them in gaming. If you're multitasking though the 8350 would be the better choice.

Twisted Skinz Tech another thing tells me that the video card is compatible with the motherboard as I can understand if the motherboard and the video sheda are compatible

Elia Franzini any graphics card is generally compatible with any motherboard that has a PCIE slot. Whether the graphics card will fit in your PC case, has a powerful enough PSU or whether the output is correct for your monitor is another thing entirely.

Leonidasbadass The closest I have to subnautica is Abzu (it's pretty awesome) and it ran that game at 1080p Medium with no problems. Fornite will easily run at 1080p high settings this card will easily out perform my GTX 670 which had no problems 1080p high.

ShironTHPS At this point in time, depending on where you live in the world Radeon GPU's may have inflated prices due to crypto-currency mining. If you can get one at a decent price it will be an upgrade as you can play the majority of titles on high settings at reasonable FPS. Make sure your PSU is up to the task though a decent 500 watts (EVGA, Corsair, etc) should be fine.

ShironTHPS If prices for Radeon cards are OK where you live a better upgrade would be the R9 290 (600 watt PSU needed) should be able to handle 1080p ultra and also 1440p high settings. Check the video on my channel for 1440p performance.

Kyle M i have almost the same system with a windforce oc 7950 and i can run csgo without a sweat. reinstall windows, from this point of fps, i think you have alot bloat, virus and trojans

Wow! that works out at £39 in England so you got a steal dude, for that price I would have snapped it up too. Radeon relive you can take about 5% FPS off. High settings on the R9 280 stock will still be good as most were clocked higher than the HD 7950 with some custom cards boosting to 1GHz (e.g XFX black edition, MSI gaming & Gigabyte windforce x 3). But you might as well see how much you can OC, it's free performance. If you need help with it let me know. Thanks for your comment.

I got the R9 280 delivered, but haven't build it in yet, because I decided I'd rather clean my PC completely before I install it. It's a Gigabyte Windforce 3, which looks ready and willing to suck up every bit of dust in my PC. I also managed to find a HD7950 from XFX which seems to have gotten the cooler swapped with another XFX card... at least I haven't found another 7950 with a similar layout of Ports and Cooler. It seemed a bit sketchy to me but it was only 40€ incl shipping... so I just couldn't restist the temptation. Should be delivered in 1-2 days I guess. Ironically, after having bought two cards, I'm still looking for a really cheap crap card so I can check the Boards.

MadIIMike I've seen Nvidia 8800GT + 9800GTX go for as low as £10 which definitely are low end but I think will become a classic in a few years. Considering getting one myself to see how well it runs my low spec PC games.

After various salvages etc. I now have a overflow of low-end GPU (x700, hd2400, hd 5550 and a hd5570 I had completely forgotten about that was sitting around for over one year (it was sold as 5770, the seller gave me back the money but left it to me just for the shipping costs). Sadly the 7950 keeps refusing to work with that cooler for extended periods of time... so I'll see what to do with that. R9 280 works just fine. Today I bought a MSI R9 280 for 50€ (+ a bit of fuel), it even has 7 months of warranty left (seller didn't know about MSI's 3 year warranty from production date). According to the seller it's running a bit too hot (10°) but he didn't change thermal paste or even clean it, so even the warranty stickers are still on. I have to admit tough, in comparsion to the MSI and Gigabyte r9 280 the XFX 7950 looks really bad in terms of build quality. I also snatched a GTX580 for 30€ incl. shipping... I know the power consumption is in no relation to performance anymore and even performance by itself may only be around a 950. But I simply couldn't resist. Also, that Asus Direct CU II Cooler alone might be worth as much... at least it looks like it could compete with the Acceleros.

Yea to be honest XFX's versions don't seem to age that well from what I've seen from various people. I would always stick with people like Gigabyte, MSI, Asus and Sapphire for second hand Radeon cards, although the HIS I bought was in really good condition it runs about 68c fully overclocked.

B Yes I would say it will give similar performance to 1050ti. But has the advantage of costing less than half the price on the second hand market. Titles which run on DX12 or Vulkan will normally perform better on this card. Where as some Nvidia sponsored titles may run marginally better on the 1050ti due to optimisation (newer pascal architecture).

B £60 was exactly the price I paid for my HD 7950 so I'd say that's a fair price. This card is really good for medium to ultra settings depending on the game, you'll see with my review of this card on the latest titles coming very soon 😀

Whether you buy a Sapphire, Gigabyte, HIS, MSI or Asus HD7950 really makes little difference, they will all perform roughly the same once overclocked.

Really Funny haha unfortunately I no longer have this card I part traded it for a Canon 750d for my channel. However overwatch is definitely easier to run than any of titles it was tested with so I can't imagine it not running ultra 1080p over 60fps with ease.

stephen allen Skyrim SE and DS3 are both capped at 60fps not a great deal I can about that other than change ini files. However this was one of my earlier videos and now I benchmark very differently including AVG, 1% & 0.1% as this a greater indicator of true performance.

I would say this card will manage modern titles at medium settings now at 1080p like SOTTR, Kingdom come deliverance, vermintide 2, etc. I just recently tried a gtx 770 4gb on those titles and medium settings seemed best for performance and frame rate.

@@fabiangutierrez1894 the graphics card is the weak link, but not by a huge amount, as I said HD7950 will still play most titles at 1080p medium settings. If you push high or ultra settings then 3gb may not be enough for some modern games. If you want high/ultra settings in the latest AAA titles then you'll have to upgrade to an R9 290/RX 570/580.

110 Canadian/Australian dollars? Then that's about what I paid in the UK converting it over. If it's US dollars then it depends on when you bought it? What condition it is in? And what version you bought? For example a mint condition Asus HD 7950 DirectCU II will normally fetch a higher price than a reference design because it's cooling is far superior and originally cost more. But it's always good to be reasonably flexible to all decent GPU's to snap up bargains. Pavle Kovacevic Due to some pretty terrible frame rate drops on my recent GTX 770 review (modded Fallout 4) I will retest this card in the future (Fallout 4 no mods) to see if this was what contributed​ to the low minimums​.

It is, i can't run ultra presets with the HD textures as well, i didn't disable the HDTP to see if there is a performance boost, but sure i will.

Markralf I thought I'd give the benefit of doubt. In the video I did mention that people may get better performance as I'm running a few visual mods. I will retest in a later video fallout 4 ultra settings no mods, completely​ standard/vanilla as this seems to have sparked a debate lol.
