Quick tutorial on doing cool things with Radial and Touch Menus. This time I uploaded the whole video though 🤦♂️

Hey dawg, I heard you like menus in your menus so I added more menus.

That meme is actually what inspired that hypothetical "layers in layers in radials" idea at the end. 😂

ahh nice save padding out the unoccupied radial menus with EMPTY actions. Also I didn't notice that the slash key shows up as nothing in the configurator/menus.

The "slash key" trick is something that I've used often (at least since the first Unorthodox Config) to create an empty center button in Radial Menus for my thumb to rest on. It actually works with key though. If you turned off "Display Binding Label" then the menus will only show the assigned icon. I use slash though because it's rarely a default binding so it's pretty safe to use as a dummy menu item.

When using a radial, it is necessary to tilt the Joystick towards the desired radial option, since it required a button like the RB so that the radial command prepared to have an action is carried out. It is uncomfortable for me to have to tilt the Joystick over and over again to the chosen radial to perform the action because I tend to accidentally tilt the Joystick to another side.

So I am thinking of having a menu based on two submenus that lead to actions. But once the touchpad is released, it will go back to the main menu. So any time you touch the touchpad, it will go to the main menu until you let go. Any way to do that?

What software are you using for the on screen display of the control inputs?
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
VSCView. It doesn't have a 3D model of the controller for showing gyro movement but it is super clean for touch/digital inputs. When you install it look for the Grey Minimal theme (I think). It's the one I'm using in the video. I made it and it ships with the software.

Does this work for the pro controller’s right stick?
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
Yup. Though I think sticks will have some difficulty with activation. Button Release is still your best bet but some sticks are really tough to push in while tilted. For instance, I wouldn't recommend this on the DS4 or a Logitech F310/F710. But yeah, it is technically possible with sticks. I even mentioned using the face buttons at the end.

I am really confused with those options. I have a DS4 controller and I want to unassign left d-pad button so the game doesn't register it as an input, but I want to put a radial menu there while I hold that button which I can control with a right analog stick. Is it even possible? And if it is, how to do so?

What you'll want to do here is create a new Action Layer. In that Action Layer you'll want to put the Radial Menu Input Style on the Right Stick and then fill in the menu items with what you want. For the Activation Style you'll want either Always (if you want instant binding activation) or "Mode Shift Release" if you want to activate the binding when you release DPad Left. Then go back to the main Action Set and go to DPad Left. Instead of giving it a keyboard/mouse/Xbox binding there is a button just to the right of the binding name box for Action Sets/Layers. Press this and then have it Hold an Action Layer and select the one you made with the Radial Menu in it. Now when you hold DPad Left your Right Stick will become a Radial Menu.

Oh my goodness! I would've never figured that out on my own. Thank you so very much, Critical Input =)

I got so excited to see this comment because I’m currently experiencing this same issue. I did everything you said but still had no luck? Idk what it could be but it’s driving me nuts 😔😔😔

whats your weapon menu look like for Quake?
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
It's just a Radial Menu with 1-0 on it. The menu is positioned on the crosshair and is quite a bit smaller and less opaque than default. I designed it so that I could continue looking near the center of the screen, keeping my eye on the action, without losing much information of the game. It's subtle but helps me find exact numbers to help build muscle memory.

how do you move the camera?
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
It's all gyro. I haven't used the touchpad in months. It's so much better utilized for buttons than to duplicate a function that the gyro is already doing.

Great work as usual. any skeleton config to share? best regards
@criticalinput4 жыл бұрын
Nope, no configs this time. There are too many variables to something like this so there aren't many things that could be placed into a skeleton.
