When Kid A first came out, I loved it to the point of obsession. I'd tell my friends it was my favorite Radiohead album, and they would say things like "What?? OK Computer and The Bends are their best albums." Those are amazing albums too, but there is something otherworldly about Kid A. Thanks for this, Mazzy!

Thank you for showing the deluxe editions. They look stunning. My own interest in Radiohead sparked with Kid A, the first three albums are yet to ingratiate themselves, but everything from 2000 onwards is magnificent. Their influences often stray from what might seem obvious. Worth searching for is their great versions of Elvis Costello's I'll Wear It Proudly & New Order's Ceremony.

I'm digging these album reviews as you are so in tune with these bands and artists... In this case, I appreciate most your sentiment about connecting your memory to those shared experiences with your son... I too am fortunate to have those experiences with my own son... Thx for this, I do not own any Radiohead and have maybe been somewhat 'intimidated' with where to start with them... This helps so much!

Great ranking video Mazzy! Thoughtful and I can't believe I didn't pick up those special editions with all that gorgeous artwork. I've never been a big britpop fan, and their two first albums went unnoticed for me. OK Computer took me a while to get into. I always felt that Thom Yorke was just a Jeff Buckley impressionist, but the Kid A came along and I was completely hooked. In hindsight I'd say objectively that OK Computer is their magnum opus. It's not a bad song and everything is in it's right place. But personally I'd put Kid A, Amnesiac and A Moon Shaped Pool in the Top 3.

Really enjoyed that! There's no tougher ranking since these are nine seriously excellent studio albums, and the one playing "right now" is always going to sound especially brilliant. Kid A, OK Computer, Amnesiac, and In Rainbows are monumental popular music works that very likely will be significant for a long, long time. Bravo!

I really enjoy your ranking videos, Mazzy. Radiohead is one of my favorite bands so was especially happy to see this. I’ve only seen them live twice. The first time was opening for REM (another favorite band - how about a ranking video of their discography)? The second time I saw them was their “In Rainbows” tour - I rank that concert as one of the best I’ve ever seen. It was an assault on all the senses in the best possible way, absolutely fantastic! My ranking, for what it’s worth - 1) Kid A or In Rainbows 🤷🏻‍♀️ 2) In Rainbows or Kid A 3) Ok Computer 4) A Moon Shaped Pool 5) The Bends 6) Amnesiac 7) Hail to the Thief 8) Pablo Honey 9) King of Limbs ✌🏼

Great to see your ranking of these Mazzy. Thinking about it, I'd be hard pressed to put Radiohead albums in any kind of order; they are just ALBUMS I LOVE and ALBUMS I DON'T LISTEN TO AS MUCH. :-) Your #9 got me really interested in your listing. I think Thief would be the 3rd spot for me... and come to think about it, was actually the first Radiohead album I listened to in full. Fake Plastic Trees is such an incredible song > acoustic, bass, and Yorke's haunting vocals is all it needs. Really cool to see those deluxe boxes... never saw those.

Nice list Norman, i agree, with those picks. Kind of same story with me, my 2 nephews and I saw the KId A tour and 2 other tours (Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief tour's) Great bonding experiences i wil cherish. We loved the guitar based albums, they went to synth based after Hail to the thief for our liking but I got all the albums. Pablo Honey would've been my last of the ten. Radiohead's B-Sides were amazing during the Bends and Ok Computer, I have the expanded cd's with all the b-sides. Which i later gave to my nephews! All the best Mazzy!

Hey Mazzy. Great video, especially as I'm a huge Radiohead fan. I really couldn't argue with your order. What I would say is that, personally, I do tend to change my orders! E.g. Rolling Stones best album for me has been Exile on Main Street, and then this year I've changed my opinion. This year is Beggar's Banquet! My point is that it's a fine line with brilliant bands/artists and some of their best albums. The other point which I totally agree with you is the brilliant and amazing album artwork that artists/bands have on their album covers. As you clearly appreciate, there's nothing more amazing than buying a new album with an unique cover plus inlay. I was in my 30s when the streaming generation came about and really missed having a new album in my hand! Now that for the last 10 years I have been rekindled my love for vinyl again, and looking at amazing new ( & re-edition ) album covers, it's great appreciatifng both the music and the artwork when you buy a new album. Anyway post over...have a great Xmas & NY and keep up the great work! 👍🏻

Glad to see a Radiohead ranking and agree with your views on design, typography and artwork. As a graphic designer and illustrator myself, I’m always attracted to album artwork. If you haven’t, you need to check out a pianist named Christopher O’Reily, True Love Waits album. He does beautiful renditions of Radiohead songs. BTW, have you heard Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings perform Blackstar? Awesome.

Hey Mazzy - great to see you talking about Radiohead. I treasure their albums and play them regularly. Thank you too for mentioning Stanley Donwood whose contribution is intrinsic and considerable. Seeing them in a small London venue about 3 years ago was very special for me. You should get the 45rpm vinyl version of Amnesiac which is still available I think. Or maybe you are waiting for the forthcoming re-release of Kid A and Amnesiac? I'm not sure I could rank them personally - different albums are right for different moods from my perspective. Anyway, thanks again. D

I shared your initial feelings in regard to OK Computer, Mazzy. It was the mrs who was really into it. I enjoy it now, but also agree that Kid A is prob my favourite or second after In Rainbows… For myself, Kid A was when they broke the mould and came into their own and transcended the norm. Loved their albums pretty much ever since. I may have the wrong person, but if I recall, Johnny Greenwood hated Creep so much that during recording he jumped on his guitar pedal and produced the thump/clunk that by accident energised the track.

I am terribly conflicted by Radiohead. I happened to be in the right place and right time to have seen them many times early in their career (almost all as support slots) and they were awful - bombastic and overblown. Their subsequent reinvention from the Bends onward is to their everlasting credit - they will never be lumped in with the vulgar Britpop. As you have said their willingness to push the envelope is to be applauded but it has made for patchy content (indeed, I think OK Computer is inconsistent). Having said that I can only agree with your conclusion - Kid A is without any doubt their best record. I'm not sure they've come close to it since. Please keep producing this sort of content - it is very much appreciated.

For a band that I had written off has a "one hit wonder" after the saturation of CREEP, which was a post and quasi (on many levels) SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT. I would have never thought that Radiohead would become one of the all-time great artists. Kid A broadened their fan base more than alienated it. When I saw the Kid A tour, my girlfriend and I were DJing a Britpop night, we probably handed out 10-20 flyers to a thousand ecstatic fans after the gig. No one was interested in Britpop and no one was there to see the CREEP version of Radiohead.

Agreed….there is just better and better. Like with great bands, unique upon hearing them and then with each listen, you say to yourself, “whoa….maybe this ones is the best?” but if pushed…Kid A. Why not is right…this album as a single listen is one of my favorites. Can’t wait…ordered the deluxe version of Kid Amnesia with the art book. I have purposely not listened to Pablo Honey or The Bends-I have them but ….I’ve also done this with my favorite directors so I always have something in my back pocket. Sill, I know but that’s my strange secret. I also got the deluxe edition of Moon Shaped Pool. Great package. Amnesiac feels the darkest to me. In Rainbows sounds like alternative universe neo-soul masterpiece. Ok Computer knocked me in the head. I obviously had heard their pop hits but when it was released, I hadn’t heard a whole album of this caliber since I was record collecting in the mid 80’s. I had a friend pop it in the CD player on the way to an 11th Daydream gig at the Double Door in Chicago. Epic first listen, rinse and repeat. Also….epic show that night and the only time I ever got to see them….which reminds me. The Radiohead catalog as a whole- I cant think of another band in the last 40 years where it’s so difficult to rank… an evolution of sound! Thom is a both genius in his song writing and vocals, Johnny a reluctant guitar god in the most subversive way, Phil crafting some very strange an unique time signatures , and Ed’s ethereal layering of sound. The secret weapon….(and I don’t believe recognized for it) Colins groovy, groovy bass lines.

I still maintain that they did not alienate as many fans with Kid A as some people want to suggest. They could’ve released an album of recorded dog farts at the time, and I would’ve thought it was amazing. So many people my age felt they could do no wrong from 1995-2001.

Maybe not in reality. I just kept hearing that complaint. And of course complainers are the loudest 😎

Do you have any Manic Street Preachers? For some reason not big in North America but check them out. Generation Terrorists is a good place to start.

Yes! Great suggestion! Everything Must Go is probably their most known album but I am sure Mazzy will appreciate the greatness of Holy Bible.

I like Radiohead yet their later albums don’t do much for me.

I only have one (small) complaint about Radiohead, they were much too loud live. That"s a pretty good ranking, I can't argue much with that.

1 - The Bends 2 - OK Computer 3 - Kid A 4 - In Rainbows 5 - Hail To The Thief 6 - Amnesiac 7 - The King Of Limbs 8 - Pablo Honey 9 - A Moon Shaped Pool Surprised how low The Bends is on your list, but as you said, it's personal and Radiohead doesn't have a bad album.

Bends used to be my favourite when I first got into Radiohead but over time it's releaved itself as just a good rock album. Nothing as creative, mind expanding, or experimental as the ones that came after

@@markh.9822 Since when was being a great rock album a bad thing. It has stuck for me as a personal favorite, but I do understand why others prefer the more experimental albums.
