My family got the nintendo when it first came out. I don't remember any of my stores having it in the boy's section, though I am sure they did in some places. Because .. most toy sections at that time didn't have a means to lock stuff up. But the electronics section does. Sooo... To prevent these New , very expensive electronic devices from being stolen, everywhere we went had them in the electronics section. Also I think people are misinterpreting Rag's response. Adam's statement of the past, has littler bearing on gaming today. There are Female game directors, programmers, writers, and shit tons of female gamers that don't get offended and rage quit games because of potty language and trash talk. I actually have more female gamers on my friends lists that I met playing the games than guys. His point was that Adam had no point. Other than telling us the past was sexist. I remember not caring about boys being in the commercials...not thinking about if it was a boy thing or not. I wanted to play video games, I played video games. When I had my first mmorpg experience on Neverwinter Nights 1, heck, even my mother-in-law played that!!! First time I met the "OMG it's a girl" was on World of Warcraft...and I DIDN'T CARE! And they only mentioned it once. I found it empowering that I was showing them what girls could do. I got tons of respect. The ONLY GAME now--a-days I ever get "omg it's a girl" is on World of Tanks (which I can totally see why). The thing that pisses me off about all this is.... *I'M SICK of these a$$hole Feminazis forgetting we have a little something called FREE WILL. OMG! Girls can think for themselves! Dammit!*

It is very annoying to me that anybody would say "games are games" so matter-of-factly in regards to comparing mobile games with console or PC games. If we're going to be that vague, then life is a game. Jobs are games. History is a game. So let's be specific. 1) Be specific when you're talking about "video games". Are you talking about any interactive device that has an electronic screen? Like casino machines? Or perhaps we are talking about games that can only be played on computers or specialized devices which are ONLY designed to play said games? Be specific. 2) People who play mobile games pretty much means almost all people who own mobile phones. So can we call almost all people who own phones gamers? I am a gamer. I started playing a regular Nintendo entertainment system WITH my sister back when we were very young. Our mom would make funny sounds for the enemies in Mario Bros. I moved on to SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, N64, Playstation, PS2, XBox360, etc. I played Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger when they first came out. I did this because while I was good at Hockey, I didn't have many friends. I didn't understand the people who felt the urge to be mean to me, so I took solace in fantasy worlds where I was in control and could have fun without fear. For a long time, the term "gamer" didn't exist. We were just nerds or geeks (there was no distinction at the time). Often times the term "loser" was tossed around. It wasn't a good thing. Only now that nerd culture has become popular and more widespread is it cool to be a nerd. And the term "gamer" now means someone who's cool and into fun games (which is kinda what it always should have meant). Playing mobile games means that you play mobile games. Being a "gamer" means you play what is generally accepted as PC or console video games. 3) Games ARE for EVERYBODY!! My sister played with me for a long time. She played Final Fantasy 8 from start to finish while I would watch and discuss battle strategies and dialogue options with her. No male gamer would EVER even THINK of trying to discourage a female from playing video games. I'm fairly certain the reason there are so many sexy female characters in video games is because the average gamer is a single male who would very much like female company (my personal opinion, not based on any research). What battle do you think you are waging, Adam? Who are you trying to convince? Did you make this ignorant video strictly for game developers and it got leaked to the public? Doggo is right about Nintendo of America making a calculated marketing decision. The crash of '83 forced Nintendo's hand marketing the NES as a toy because stores refused to stock video games. That was why the NES originally was bundled with R.O.B and the zapper. And yes the majority of games on the famicom/NES were more likely to appeal to males. Action and shooting games were prolific in the early NES library and even to this day those kinds of games appeal mostly to males so I would say that the decision to market the NES to males was the right choice given the circumstances. It led to the revival of the home console market in the USA. And though it took years for that to change it would be a stretch to say women were excluded from playing games due to misogyny. At the end of the day the games business is a business. And no business would want to limit the money they could make by only selling to half the population. Anytime a girl wants to buy a game nobody is going to refuse to sell to her. It's worth noting that this perception was particularly prevalent in the west and a lot less so in Japan where a lot of games from the NES era were made. And there are games that appeal to men and women differently. Action oriented games like call of duty are mostly played by males, women generally gravitate towards different types of games such as puzzle games and RPGs and games in the animal crossing series has been a huge hit with the ladies as was wii fit. No sooner had Nintendo found ways to make games and hardware that appeals to women than smartphones started cutting their lunch. The casual market dried up and their experience with the WiiU forced Nintendo into a rethink. The switch is aimed at young adults with disposable income and it's games are aimed at a more core audience meaning no more wii fit games but it will have animal crossing next year. Plenty of games for chicks to enjoy on the switch but they're in it to make money and worrying about gender politics over fun games that sell well is not what successful games companies do.

I am a gamer, have been since the early 80's i remember the time before gaming. I know about the same amount of female gamers as male gamers.. we are gamers.. thats it..the true gamers dont see gender or anything else..we are a different species we are GAMERS. i play casual games as well.. but i dont consider mobile gaming to be anything but casual.. i can spend 12-13 hours on a game.. (it helps with my mental health etc)
