On Friday December 3 I made a trip to Orangeville to see the (at the time) Endangered Orangeville Brampton Railway Short Line & I am super happy I picked that day because little did I know, I actually captured the VERY LAST REGULAR run of this train (*a regular run is South & North & since they only ran south for good 2 weeks later on Dec 17: this here would make the very last ever regular run of this train)!
*Also, this is a 2 part series so here is a link to the Part 2 video which will consist of the light power move back north to Orangeville & also the LAST EVER NORTHBOUND Train movement to EVER Travel over this line: • RAIL HISTORY Part 2! L...
Anyhow with that, here is just a 20minute video consisting of the train switching in Orangeville as well as the southbound chase to Brampton!
Sure hope you all enjoy, Hope you all have a Very Merry Christmas also!!

Graydon, great job capturing this historic moment! They should put some of these pictures along the rail trail for people to know what was once there.

Still think this was a huge mistake by Orangeville and Brampton to sell off this railway property for a few measly bucks now. They have effectively cut themselves and their industry access from major railway network. I think could only hurt them more later...Anyway it's good you were here to document this as some couldn't be there. Its also very well done too. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Graydon; Great Dec. 3rd chase. The Orangeville yard looked so forlorn when you viewed it empty. Almost like it could have been abandoned years earlier. My last day at the yard was Sept 28th and there were still cars there, of course. Nice to meet you on the 17th. Stay safe. James.

Merry Christmas to you Graydon ! Great shots of this last full run south, I'll be checking the northbound run. I also have a collection of "N" scale trains though most are fallen flags or CN. A Spirit of Orangeville Geep would be a nice addition don't you think ?

Merry Christmas to you too Steve & hope you had a great holiday!! Surely a OBRY 1000 geep Definitely would be nice although the small lettering at the top of the nose for OBRY 1000 actually read “Pride of Orangeville”. BCRY 1001 was “Spirit of Collingwood”. Before 1000 went to Orangeville in 2000 it originally started off as BCRY 1000 in 1998 as their original locomotive also & in the 2 years it was with BCRY, top of nose on 1000 read “Pride of Barrie and Collingwood”. Not sure if you’ll remember The Little Train Shoppe but from sometime in the 1990s up until to 2009 (which is when they sadly were more or less forced to close after the building was sold to the developer who is working of the Condos now) but they were actually inside the old 45 Railroad st Downtown Building at the intersection of Mill st & Railroad right across from the Downtown station & actually they custom made models of the OBRY locomotive also before they sadly closed… too bad I was only 9 at the time

Hey buddy, THANK YOU for documenting this now abandoned railway. It’s a shame that it’s no longer in use. I hat are the plans for it now? Surely someone else should run it. Please keep me posted if you hear anything about it. Again, THANK YOU for documenting this. Those signal lights just before the Diamond are fairly new I believe, they had old search lights before them I can remember. If they take up the Diamond, can you please video that as well? It was a sad day all around. I could listen to that sound of the cars going over the Diamond all day, and, that horn sounds like a Fog horn to me. Goosebumps!

Thank you very much for the kind Feedback and very glad you liked my documentary. With regards to the future of this rail line, sadly it seems it’ll be turning into a Rail Trail. No other short line has a say anymore, Major himself has forced the line to fail… With regards to the signal lights, hmmm I guess you mean the ones along the OBRY line?? Don’t think they’re necessarily new to tell you the truth, think they are the same ones I remember from the first time I personally seen this line when I was 8 in the summer of 2008, first saw the OBRY in2010. With regards to if I can get a vid of the Diamond being pulled… hmmm sadly I think that’ll be a challenge since I am about 20ish minutes away from Downtown & my work definitely may keep me wrapped up especially during the week but if I can somehow find out about it beforehand like if someone posts somewhere on socialmedia then forsure I’ll try to make it down & at least get something (even if i just miss the pull then I’ll wait around and film one of the first Halton Sub Trains to cross over the former RAW.

First time I ever seen & filmed the OBRY when I was 10 years old in the summer of 2010, that was my mom & sis who got in the shot on the right. Man was I ever so happy to see this train when I was young, for several years by that point I always dreamed of seeing the train go across the Halton Sub Diamond & Railroad st and of course the several years at that age would’ve felt way longer also than they would now. sorry for the shakiness in the vid also, I was so young 🤣 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZryKft2gzc3RYmg.html

And a NB clip also with actually a 11 car OBRY train, this was still a year before the OWLS Diamond went in also kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h9-gfNVhndWzgqM.html

Fun fact.. The design plans for the OBRY show a interchange with the Halton sub that was never installed
@NscalefromOntario
@NscalefromOntario 2 жыл бұрын
Many actually did wonder why they didn’t think to add a interchange with CN at the Halton Sub around the time this Short Line began operations (their sister-like short line the BCRY did so as they built the Utopia Interchange with CP not long after they began operations). Would’ve been 8 miles less of land tax trackage costs for Orangeville & those 8 miles had to be much more expensive too I bet since they ran straight through the major urban city.

I get what you mean there bud, you know what I really, REALLY wish I could’ve seen more & gotten more footage of when I was younger? GEXR at dusk in the last rays of light on the Waterloo Spur heading to Elmira kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pNBzltWSl9G6qH0.htmlsi=A_rcMcOm6uJeUiqo . -Long story but Grew up a lil With that Branchline myself regardless of the fact that it was a hr away from me, so many great locations i thought to get good video footage of the coloured GEXR units on that line, especially with the fact that they were on duty at 7pm & typically ran north at dusk between May & July (longest summer months) even DURING LRT CONSTRUCTION time up to their last year on the branch in 2018. That year I finally got just a little evening video footage of GEXR on shared LRT + some pics as I did a lot of photography then but my skills were VERY LIMITED then to how they are now so definitely not my best work in my eyes & eh thankful i guess that I still have my little keepsakes but man do I wish I could’ve gotten MUCH more😢 -especially GEXR cutting through the Erb & Caroline st intersection crossing in last rays of light, pre-LRT (up to 2014). Just didn’t have the freedom to see it when it was possible as I had no car and no way really to get to Kitchener besides the few weeknights a year my parents once in a blue moon had off. Taking the GO down there by myself to see the train at night (well realistically evening) was NOT AN OPTION said my mother…. 🙃

There is just isn’t an excuse to shut this thing down. Should have tried to sell it to GIO for like a discounted take it off my hands price. And the 450 grand could have being saved and the line would still be operating to this day.

At one point in cando era there was talk about rebuilding the line all the way to Owen sound so a future industry could get products from the harbour there but that plan never fell thru sadly.

Does CP still own the line? All track and equipment should be rail banked with a trail beside it.
@NscalefromOntario
@NscalefromOntario 2 жыл бұрын
No as of September 2000 it was owned completely by the Township of Orangeville & at that same time they found the Short Line Operator CANDO to run on their railway line and service their local Buisness’s bi-weekly.

@@NscalefromOntario a rail trail? What does that mean?
@NscalefromOntario
@NscalefromOntario 2 жыл бұрын
@@transittown7891 means the rails will be ripped out and as soon as they are gone the old railway right of way will become a bike/walking path. Almost like ordinary hiking/walking trails we’d see around Rec centers in town as well as out in the forest but since the area was previously a rail line, that’s why they call it a rail trail
