With prices taking a bit of a nose dive on range rovers , is this the perfect time to buy one ?
They have always offered great value for money , but now they seem like Bargains ! ( Some of them )

I'd stIck with the L322 you already have, if you're happy with it. For the simple reason that you know the car inside out, you know its condition and you've invested time and money so you know what jobs have been done. That's why I am keeping my L322 TD6; having done so much to it (including new gearbox, turbo, air suspension) I should be able to cross those jobs off now for a good few years. It's in great nick now, and fully rustproofed every year. Buying a new car, I'd be in unknown territory and might end up doing all of that again.

@@DrivewayHustlers My gearbox went soon after I bought it; the vehicle was 10 years old, on the original box as far as I know, but I don’t know if the gearbox oil had ever been changed and it was on 150k. I was advised to ignore the “sealed for life” info and change the gearbox oil every 40-50k so I’ve done that with the replacement box, and no probs since. I think it’s worth doing.

Yeah I wouldn’t listen to the sealed for like either . Since I’ve had mine ( nearly 3 years ) it’s had 3 gearbox services . It’s smooth as anything , and currently on 208k

In my opinion, the money you need to buy a new one will be the money you need to fully maintain your l322 for at least another 7/8 years. In addition the td6 it's the best in-line 6 ever made

Stick with the Td6 L322, had mine just over a year now, service it regularly and deal with any issues rather than leaving them to fester, use money to make more money, I know the newer ones look tempting, thats why so many people are in trouble, dont join them, you work too hard to slip up now, happy holidays to all...

Iv got my 4.2sc l322 and it’s great but still have my td6 for work, deffo keep with l322 and pre keyless entry unless you want thousands on insurance. My td6 also had the same issue, ideally need to take the switch out from below the barrel and give them a proper clean, or buy a new switch, about £30-50 depending on where you go for it. L405 won’t be cheap to put right and a mechanic I know was saying he’s seeing corrosion on them, (steel/ Ali parts and body) and that won’t be as easy to patch up as a full steel car like the l322. TD6 is a cracking car. I love my 4.2 for long drives etc but nothing wrong with a td6 as a daily car.

Td6 owner here and I wouldn’t touch a l405 with a barge pole 😂😂😂 ask yourself this why are the l405s are plummeting in price because there utter shite the l322 isn’t dropping in price much at all so that tells you something a lot of people are selling the l405 and buying l322s because cheaper road tax cheaper insurance and harder to steel plus the theifs are just not interested I would never sell my l322 I’ve spent fortune on it and it runs really nice so why sell it 🤷‍♂️ if yours runs good and you like it why sell it just to get a newer one that will loose fortunes in another 6 months 🤦‍♂️ stick to your l322 it owes you nothing and the engine will last for ever if you look after it could you say the same about the l405 I doubt it 🤣 plus the l322 is slowly becoming modern classic status look at all the l322 enthusiast channels compared to the l405 🤔 I’m 53 now and mine is going to be my last daily driver I ever buy because I’m not stupid 😉 so my advice is keep your l322 save your money for more important things in life trust me you not regret it 👍

have a watch at car uk on youtube, and geoff buys cars. its to do with keyless entry and keyless start why there getting nicked , insurance companies are increasing the prices, (but it sees to be the newer range rovers that are the problem not the p38 or l322) the big fire at the airport didn't help.. the other day i was reading about a £350,000 rolls royce that got nicked in under 30 seconds. stick with what youve got and give it a refresh and an update, go for the latest touch screen stereo, stainless steel exhaust, refurbish the wheels, xenon lights, give it a big service etc etc.bring it up to a modern day vehicle plenty of aftermarket bits around for them these days.

The one you have will hold it's price because of tax. From 06 to 12 it's extortionate. As you said, lots are from finance companies so wait a little longer and you'll be able to choose what car you want rather than what fits a budget. My td6 will be insured middle of January so it'll be nice to see if it lasts😂

My wife had a starting problem just like that on a Toyota It was the switch on the ignition, where the key tip goes into, the extra pressure of the starter key turn had split the switch center and it was opening up the split rather than turn the switch onto the starter circuit I’d stick with what you know 🤔

Purchased an L405 3 years ago, 42k miles 4.4 v8 diesel been looked after. Expect 3-6k a year maintaince on general stuff just breaking etc Tyres obviously £200 ish and I drive it a lot so put around 150-200 a week in fuel. Let’s saying £600 conservatively fuel a month 6-7k per year fuel then tax then repairs cost you roughly £12k-£15k a year easily to run one ! Be prepared for this and you cannot skimp on maintenance for any guys out there wanting to buy one potentially. I’ must be mad because I have 2 😂

Prices are tumbling as the diesels are non ULEZ compliant and combined with insurance costs in London - so people in this location are bailing out. Many are running these on a shoe string budget and so insurance is pricing another demographic out… Autobiography with the rear air con on L405 are prone to leaking and the pipes run down the sills and over the rear subframe and the pipes can rust…to replace is expensive….

I've got a 2008 L322 TDV8 3.6 - IMO it was the sweet spot. OK - you have problems but I spent £6500 on the car and having replaced turbos, rear prop shaft and alternator, and air tank - I'm in it for £12k - but it's done 100k miles. I've already done gearbox oil and diffs and transfer box and service. So should be solid for another 50-60k miles. Spend 10-12k on anything - you still have all the same potential issues

L405 4.4 2017 onwards cheaper road tax and plenty of power, if your budget allows. I have owned many Range Rovers being in the trade, my advice is always buy the best spec and a car thats not had multiple owners two or three maximum . Also buy a car with a good detailed service history. Cheap Range Rovers with 10 owners, patchy history are generally money pits ! L322 vs L405 I have had both and worked both pulling trailers etc, got to say loved both, though the L405 in my opinion is a nicer more refined drive.
