MaoMao is also different from the other anime girls because she isn't super shy and blushes at everything. She is above nonsense and goes about things her own way. She just feels a lot more real as a character

I really love her character. I definitely recommend the show if you’re interested, she’s quite a fresh breath of air. Also, her view on the world makes the show very interesting. She knows her place(Like she knows the consequences of being ignorant) and that’s a very important factor to what makes her character so good in my opinion. I'd go so far as to say that she's the best character in any anime last season, male or female. Maomao is a properly interesting and complex character, and very nicely portrayed through both the animation and, of course, Aoi Yuki's performance. Aoi Yuki always delivers!

Maomao is such a great character because she acts NORMAL for once. She's not some super shy introvert with anxiety, she's not a loud boisterous tomboy, she's not the "perfect" student council president, she's just a normal girl with some odd interests. She's relatable and super fun as a protagonist. They didn't have to try super hard to make her interesting, she just IS.

interesting that you say this because i have friends who are super shy introverts with anxiety and friends who are loud boisterous tomboys. (no perfect student council presidents though because the principal's daughters were the student council presidents in my school and they are nowhere even near good)

A thing I personally really adore about Frieren is the way humoristic comments and moments rarely seem over the top. I'm not sure how to put it into words, but it just makes it feel more natural to me, in a way, and I don't think I've ever seen that in anime before. Along with the story, the animation, the pacing and the banger magic fight scenes, this is easily a top tier show for me.

MaoMao rocks.... she's smart, sassy and wears no make up except for drawn on freckles (the reason why is stated in the anime) She's only 5ft tall and the fairest man in the land is madly in love with her because of WHO she is and not what she looks like. It's a crime that this anime doesn't get more accolades, It's the best of 2023

Undead unluck anime being in A is perfect lmao Although the anime will end on Autumn arc (which is the first S arc in the show imo) but it's brought down by a slow start, though the manga somehow keeps getting better from there exponentially, so I highly recommend it

I'm so happy my anime of all time (Berserk of Gluttony) got S tier, it really was. It's scenes were animated, the characters were and don't even get me on the story that most definetly was. Truly the anime of all time

14:40 the funniest thing to me about Pluto is.... that thing where you say "oh i wish I could forget this story to relive the 1st reading" it happened to me with Pluto. I read the manga like 15 years ago and just remembered it was awesome, it was astro boy and a few characters names. Man watching the anime was awesome and I did cry like a bitch at several points.

Fricking Wethermon Boss battle is insane, I've watched it after I played FFVII Rebirth demo, what a real gaming experience lol.

12:00 ok so there was a time where I had to briefly draw with a mouse and here is an interesting trick that I did that helped a lot: You know how your monitor has a different vertical/horizontal resolution? If you go to your mouse sensitivity and you set up different sensitivities for the X and Y axis, doing some math to simulate that your screen is a square, you end up with a mouse that actually makes a circle when you make a circular motion with it. Obviously, it is still completely fucked but it does makes things a bit easier

Shoegaze is a rock genre that is focused on atmospheric dreamy sounding rock music. It was invented in the 90s I believe. The other FLCL show is called Grunge which is another 90s alternative rock genre.

i'm sad that it took me so long to give it a chance. i am (regrettably) someone who dislikes the 'popular' things and with all of the positive buzz about it from 2023, i simply never gave in. but eventually i did and now i can't sleep on thursday nights waiting for each new ep. i also don't have my IRL friends who are into anime -- it's more something reserved for my gaming and online friends with whom i discuss it with. many of my irl friends surprisingly gave frieren a shot when i couldn't stop raving about how many times i'd rewatched the first 10 eps and now they are hooked as well.

It's a dangerous hole once you start down it. I binged all 10 volumes of the manga currently available in English and then jumped to the light novels which are available up to volume 10 on Kindle and Nook. In about a week I'm already on Volume 9 of those and soon I'll be stuck waiting on releases as they come. For context volume 10 of the manga goes to about half way through volume 3 of the light novels so if you're looking for a way to really binge the series and you have an e-reader, the light novels are the way to go.

Its so weird hearing you say season 3 of shiled hero had no direction because thats how i felt about the last 4 episodes of season 1 the plot was essentially over and we wrapped up all the big plot lines so watching season 2 felt kinda lost but towards the middle it felt like we finally had a direction and season 3 just felt like it continued on the same path

For someone who has been actively watching anime for like 15 years and watches almost all genres its been so long since i had an anime break my top5 and for a season to have 2 animes to simultinously enter my top5 is peak anime season both frieren and apocathery diaries are so well directed there's animes that you like and there are animes that are well made, an anime has to be in both categories for me to consider a top spot for me

In regards to FLCL. I feel that the original didn't take itself seriously and wanted to experiment with different styles of animation while delivering a story of maturing, coming into your own identity and how you can still be friends with people who have vastly different outlooks on life. I watched FLCL on Adult Swim back in the day and watching the initial opening, just that short scene where Mamimi overlays her hands on top of Takun's while he's trying to do homework caught my attention. Re-watching it as an adult still gives me a shiver down my spine since the initial shots are of a panning water color landscape and some basic animation of vehicles on the bridge, it's like watching an artist doodle and then instantly transitioning into a passion project.

On Gigguks comment on 100 girlfriends, I'm not into the harem genre and enjoyed it so much it literally got me back into reading manga. Caught up to the 100 girlfriends manga over a few weeks then recently caught up to the Oshi no Ko manga. So yeah, I would say I enjoyed the show lol.

I feel like you could have elaborated a little more about Diaries. I don't find the most appeal in its drama or Mao Mao 'asserting its dominance', but more about a realistic portrayal of a female protagonist that is not unrealistically optimistic. She knows her place in the world and navigates it accordingly, and that basis is what makes Mao Mao and thus the world of Diaries shine.

I get the feeling that Maomao as a character is more of a "perfect female protagonist" from a female's point of view rather than a "realistic female protagonist". From as far as I can tell, Maomao has no flaws whatsoever as a character. My main two reasons for thinking this are: - She is the only character that gets (rightfully) creeped out by Jinshi (being the ONLY one to react like this in a palace full of women is just weird) - She adds freckles to her face to make herself "uglier" on purpose (when she takes the freckles off it's portrayed as if she becomes the most beautiful woman alive) Of course she has the "likes drinking poison" gimmick and all that weird experimentation going on for her, but I wouldn't consider that a character flaw to be honest. I think that the only moment that comes close to a flaw is when Maomao learns about poison from her father in one of the episodes, when she learned that it's better for the victim to drink more water when the poison is already distilled. I've only watched until episode 14, so please correct me if I'm wrong on this. I still love the anime, but it's an A for me instead of an S for now.

@@NeqoNi I think you are forgetting the setting. They don't have modern beauty standards, while she is in a palace of influential women. The women higher up in the palace are much smarter than they put on, compared to the maids. As for Jinshi, he is presumed to just be the most handsome eunuch. In a place with only women who don't catch they eye of the emperor, they will fawn over the most popular "man" under him. Maomao just doesn't care about appearance when she cares more for materials. +Jinshi is mostly creepy to her when in private.

I really like Eminence, but my only issue is that with what I’ve seen about where things are in the light novels I feel like it’s gonna drag itself out WAY too much. I was worried about that potentially being an issue with some stuff in season 2 (nothing really indicated it to me it was just a feeling) and then I feel like that was kinda confirmed for me after looking up some info about where it’s at now. That said idk TIMELINE wise where the novels are so maybe in the sense of the stories timeline it’s actually not as bad as it seems and in its anime translation things are a lot tighter. Like idk much about LN to anime adaptation length logistics and shit so I could be just misinterpreting that

Initially the light novel had 2 arcs per volume. Now I think the author started to write one arc per volume. I just want the director of the anime to adapt the next arc in such a way that it surpasses their previous adaptations combined.

I can understand the concern, but as someone who’s read all six volumes I don’t think it really has the problem. Each volume brings something completely fresh to the formula, and the story is actually advancing in the background

I'm missing The Yuzuki Family's Four Sons. It made me cry on more than one occassion and on that alone I would probably put it in A. Even if some of the story beats were a bit simple, the characters made it an enjoyable watch nonetheless.

For me, that's the highlights: Dark Gathering, MF Ghost, Emissary in Shadow, Shangri-La Frontier, Apothecary Diaries. I have very rarely appreciated such a big amount of shows to such an extent in a single season as I did here.
