Back in 1981(or was it 1980?)I rode behind 2860 from Cincinnati to Danville,Ky. and back. They had 3 beautifully painted SR FP7s to assist in powering the train. These FP7s are now museum pieces. It was a chilly, fall day.

I sooooo wish someone (RAPIDO???) would make this in N scale with all the same features as the HO scale..

This is a fantastic steam locomotive, too bad that it is not equipped with a smoke unit & that is a shame considering that this is a $700 locomotive model.

I wish I had The ability to have this. Its not so much the money or time its the space. I just don't have space currently for any sort of layout. If I ever hit the Lotto Max Jackpot or something though then I would find some space. time and money to have a layout with this on it.

So what's function 4? When you said we'll skip it "for now", you got me thinking it was going to be a cool surprise feature you were going to show off for us later in the video, like maybe 2860's "O Canada" musical whistle.

Function 4 makes it sound like it's coasting - it cuts off the chuffs, so all you hear is the rod clank. (You can hear this at 5:36.) I do remember finding a function that played "O Canada" while testing the loco, but I couldn't find it again and it's not listed in the manual, so if it's an Easter egg, it's well hidden.

@@bchobbies I believed that was Function 17 for the O Canada. It could be different on other DCC systems.

Could it handle 18" curves? Thats mostly all i use in my railyard because EZ track is cheap and easy lol

It's a pretty large engine for 18" radius, but yes, it can handle it. Just make sure there aren't any obstacles too close to the track, since the cab overhangs the outside of the curve quite a bit.

@@bchobbies thank youuu! Im used to larger locomotives, my biggest being a Reading Company 4-8-4, I just have to go slow upon entry and exiting my yard which is prototypical, lots of shoving back long trains slowly too. I was worried that the diaphragm would make it difficult to handle the curves but what ive gathered is that its versatile which is good.

@@bchobbies and im using these royal hudson reviews and running session videos to gauge whether or not Rapido's future H1b 2816 would be a good fit for my route since mechanically the models shouldn't be too different.

@@nayastellini2610 Yep, I'd guess that the H1b will probably use the same mechanism as the Royal Hudson.

Questions: I have Royal Hudson 2861 with DCC/Sound but wanted to ask if you or anyone on here would know what CVs I would need to adjusted to consist with Rapido's F40PH-2D or their FP7/9A locomotives? The Hudson currently runs slower than their VIA F40PH-2D or FP9A. Also how would i get the rear tender light to turn on? Mine doesn't seem to light when in reverse. Thanks.

I don't know off the top of my head, unfortunately. I believe all Rapido locos use LokSound decoders, so I'd suggest looking up the decoder manual and see if it has a list of CVs.

Depending on who you buy it from, the DCC and sound version is usually between $500 and $600 USD. These are no longer available from Rapido, but some retailers still have stock remaining.

@@bchobbies I would love to add 2860 to my layout but unfortunately it’s too expensive for me at the moment Will keep looking define a deal on her does anybody know the situation on the 2860? The last I heard she is stored serviceable somewhere in BC?

@@rudycarlson8245 As far as I'm aware, 2860 is currently on static display at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park in Squamish, BC.
