ITS BABY METAL MONDAY!!! On this segment of Rappers React, Smokey and Hollywood react to "Doki Doki Morning" by BabyMetal. This is some of there early work and we see why these girls became so popular all around the world, talented is an understatement. Any suggestions, send them our way.

Well spotted on the little pink animated skeleton (Mr Bones) dancing along with them ... there are actually 5 of them dotted round the room. You will have to look again now to see if you can find them. The girls were very pleased with themselves here because they taught the Babybones skeleton suited guys the choreography themselves. Sakura Gakuin is an Idol group formed in 2010 with a middle school theme, so it is for girls aged 10 to 15. Su, Yui and Moa were all among it's very first members. With the school theme, as well as the songs all the girls (there were 10 or 12 of them) perform together, they also set up sub units, like after school clubs (eg cooking club, tennis club, science club and so on), with three or four (or maybe more) of the girls in each club and they would also get their own songs that matched their club theme. Yui and Moa were also in Mini Pati (cooking club) and Twinklestars (baton club). Babymetal was Su's only club or sub unit and she was its leader - the whole idea for a heavy music club was formed around her because of her unusually loud (for a Jpop singer) singing style. The talent agency that owns Sakura Gakuin had least expectation of success for the Heavy Music Club/Babymetal and provided no extra budget for them whereas they provided costumes etc for all the other clubs. At the end of the year Sakura Gakuin would release an album with all the group songs and sub unit songs from that year. Babymetal was the heavy music club and 'Doki Doki Morning' was their very first song. It was recorded in 2010, the video was recorded and released in 2011.

I saw Babymetal live in Finland in their 2020 tour just before Corona became a big thing and i'm so happy that i could see them before all the events were cancelled, and they were awesome! You should react to their live performances aswell, maybe a song you have already listened to, to compare how they sound live. BxMxC is insane live and so is Headbanger!

Generally Yui was considered the better dancer of the two and Moa was considered to be the better vocalist. Watching Moa now is like watching a well-trained world-class athlete, she is wickedly fit and quick now. I hope Yui and child are happy and safe. (as of 4/29/2020... 927 days since the last public sighting of Yui Mizuno.)

Great Babymetal Monday again! Babymetal was originally the "Heavy Music Club" in another Idol group called Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin has a middle school theme (all members are between 10 and 15 and pretend to be schoolgirls in an academy) and as such it has activity clubs, which are subgroups that make themed songs about for example cooking, science or art. Actually it was like this until 2013, when Su-metal graduated from Sakura Gakuin and then Babymetal officially "split" into a group of its own.

In an interview the lead singer said the idea for Baby Metal came from an early interest in Metal as a genre so she decided to form a club at school and that school club evolved into Baby Metal, from there things escalated quickly as the group started playing PROFESSIONAL GIGS by the age of twelve and got a record contract a year later.

The song was a "one off", it was never intended to grow into what it did. It was recorded in 2010, and a year later this video was made and released in October 2011. Metal Injection picked it up and had it #9 of their viral videos of the year, and Babymetal just took off after that. The outfits they wore here, their first stage costumes as a group, were borrowed from friends and staff. They had minimal support from the record company. There is a lot of pop in this song, they had yet to settle on a sound. The second song they ever performed, Ijime Dame Zettai, they were worried was too heavy and they were afraid fans would not go for it. It took a long while for them to release it.

I don't think it's accurate to say it was a 'one off'. They were an established subgroup within Sakura Gakuin. You don't do that for a 'one off'. They had original music and a logo and a brand name. Also i'm pretty sure iine was their second song. They performed it at their third ever performance. You don't put as much work into something as they did into Doki Doki Morning and intend for it NOT to be a success. Obviously they had hopes.

@@Jordan-Ramses Of all the SG sub group, Babymetal was the only one not to get costumes. Maybe Scoopers too. SG is not founded on commercial success; it's purpose is to bring along talent in preparation for adult careers. I'm sure they break even but they don't follow a number of common practices of idol groups which would increase sales. As opposed to say a group like one five. So no, success was not the expectation. Su was prepared for people to laugh at them in their first performance. IDZ was the second song performed, iine was the third but the second single. It took a couple years to release IDZ

Has anyone ever thought about the original conversation with the Kami band. Something like this "Hello guys, i know you are the four best metal musicians in Japan but i have an idea. I have three teenage girls that i want yo to play behind while they sing the songs, What do you think".... This i why i have so much time for these guys, they always leave everything on the stage. They never let the girls down. Boh is always giving 100% and the drummer .. well...what can i say... all of them. Also the girls never ever let them down either. What a band this is...They have to be one of the best of all time. I LOVE BABYMETAL.

"Doki Doki" is onomonopia, or the sound of a heart beat. Kinda like "bang" is onomonopia of the sound of a gun shot.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 💓 ⏰ Like so many great Heavy Metal songs, this song is about waking up excited for a new day at school, and deciding on your lip gloss and cute hairstyle. Actually, maybe that's just BABYMETAL. : ) This is a great fun song, but you can see why we don't start metalheads off with this one. This was their first single, music video, etc. BABYMETAL were still the "Heavy Music Club" sub-unit of the school themed idol group Sakura Gakuin. It was this video blowing up on social media that helped BABYMETAL start to go viral, especially outside of Japan.

Hi guys yes they where still part of Sakura Gakuin as a sub unit . Doki Doki morning was released as a single in 2011 . Su was 13 and Yui and Moa where 12 . They borrowed clothes to make customs for video as they did not have a big budget. Its still popular among fans who wish them perform it now last time was Legend S Su's 20th Birthday concert at Hiroshima and that was 1st concert Yui did not perform at for health reasons and left officially later that year stating health reasons but hoped to come back one day but as herself Yui Mizuno in a solo career. Yui was the one you said was best dancer . Agree she was a great dancer and always did her best .🤟😷🤟

"Dokidoki" is of course just a Japanese word. It's not straightforward to translate into English without context, but in general it means something along the spectrum between "upbeat / exciting / fun" and "hectic / frantic / too busy". In this case, the song is about not wanting to get out of bed in a timely fashion, and then you're running late, scrambling to get ready to leave your house on time. And yes, this single was originally a project that a small number of people undertook, under the auspices of a larger teen j-pop group. But once they started messing around with metal, they liked it, and wanted to keep doing it. By the time I became aware of them, they had also released their second song, iine, which remains my favorite Babymetal song to this day.

I'm never quite sure, did it always carry the metaphorical meaning? Because I know it's an onomatopoeia for a heartbeat, but I've never found anything on the actual origin.

"Ijime Dame Zettai" live at Sonisphere 2014. It was their first world tour, invited as a filler band. One day they were scheduled to play the main stage, the stage the metal OGs play on. To a crowd of 50-80k people who didn't know who they were. Their performance made them the most popular Asian band in the western world.

You might find this interesting.. or cute. This is Moa and Yui's audition to Babymetal. (not really but kind of) The song they're doing had 3 girls and there are only them 2 so their formation looks weird. Imagine another girl on the left and slightly behind the middle girl. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b8p8osyez8fJf6c.html The other interesting thing is that the song they're doing was performed by Su. She was in the 3 girl trio that the song came from. When she was 10. Before Babymetal. Babymetal covered the song in 2012 and they all did it together which was amazing. The spot in the audition where the third girl would be was actually where Su was in the original song.

Here is the BABYMETAL cover of "Over The Future", this song to me is also top tier in my BM song list. I know it's never going to happen without Yui but I wish The Fox God would see it in his power to remake the video with one of the Avengers, I know it would sound amazing now with Su-Metal and the girls mature vocals. @@METALSKINMETAL - Yeah i agree. They did Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai at Budokan. That's the only cover song that's been done with the Kami band. I'd love to see the others done with a live band. Even Love Machine and Chokotto Love. I would think that Tamashi no Rufuran would be the most likely. Su was awesome singing that.

I can imaging people who've never played _Super Mario 64_ having that opening clip go completely over their head (Why did that young man throw himself at that portrait on the wall?) LOL! Another nice reaction! This song is, for all intents and purposes, the birth of Kawaii-Metal. Much like _Gimme Chocolate!!_ , it has a very heavy J-pop influence and a fun vibe. The crowds at their shows, as always, would really get into the live performance with everyone shouting _IMA NAN JI!!!_ (which means "what time is it?") in unison. I gotta recommend you check out their performance of _Ijime, Dame, Zettai_ Live at Sonisphere U.K. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNVdksaTy8rWiXk.html This was during their first world tour, playing the main stage at their first major metal festival (Sonisphere). The Japanese title loosely translates to "No more, Bullying, Forever". It's a great track and was the closing number of their 5 song set that day.

The original arcade game that was all on one screen was just called "Mario Bros." Then when the side-scrolling classic game was made, they called that "Super Mario Bros." It was considered a bigger version of the game, so they just added "Super" to the name. Then it stuck forever. Sakura Gakuin is a difficult thing to explain, because there's nothing like it outside Japan. 10 year old girls audition to get into a training group for pop stars, where they work on singing and dancing, and it also had a variety TV show. Su, Yui and Moa were recruited from that by a producer named Kobayashi into Babymetal.

Another great review guys! Keep Babymetal Mondays coming! There's still lots you haven't seen yet. Here's a suggestion for your next video, "Babymetal - Death (Legend of 1997)" it from their live show which was on Su's 16th birthday which is why the show was called "legend of 1997" because that was the year Su was born. Babymetal exists because of the producer got asked to work at the kids division instead of the bands division he used to work. It might be because their was less demand for bands in Japan. Usually idol/pop groups get created based on concept, but he came from bands, so he searched for talent first. Found this girl who was always singing loudly and he thought: I like loud music, maybe I can make it fit. Aka how Babymetal got started. :-) So made the band/concept after finding the talent, instead of normal way in pop/idol groups.

Doki-Doki is representative of a heart beat. When you love something or someone in Japan you can say that “it/they made your heart go doki-doki”(but in Japanese, most likely lol).

I love that this song shows just how humble their beginnings were. Did you notice that tape was falling off one of the skeletons? Also, yes, Moametal is a dance machine; she is just full of energy. There is some great footage from her time in Sakura Gakuin that I will share once you get through some more BABYMETAL videos. In the meantime, I'd say BABYMETAL Death from the Legend 1997 concert is a great juxtaposition of Doki Doki morning. BABYMETAL Death's lyrics are a play on words. In Japan, they pronounce Death as "des". Also in Japan, "desu" is how a person or group introduce themselves (e.g. Steven desu = I am Steven). However, in Japanese, when a vowel is at the end of a word, it becomes unvoiced, similar to the "k" in knives. So "desu" is pronounced as "des". Thus the song is written to introduce the girls and the group while sounding very metal. The Legend 1997 concert was held in 2013 to celebrate Su-metal's 16th birthday and, according to legend, she was reborn again at this concert to continue the "Metal Resistance" and lead the fight against the forces of Idol music.

I think it would be really nice to hear your reaction to Babymetal's No Rain, No Rainbow. It only has Su-Metal in it, but it is such a gorgeous song, especially the version where she sing in Hiroshima live. Such a beautiful song. It actually starts to get me a little emotional even when I listen to it.

I see a lot of people asking so I will too. Band-Maid please. Anything live to start. Domination, Don't You Tell ME, Puzzle, Take Me Higher, Moritorium, Play, Real Existence, Secret My Lips, are just a few to chose from. They're the best " hard rock" band I've heard in 30yrs.

I think what you picked up on Moa, especially in this video, is her tendency to have a really awesome smile all the time. She's got killer dimples too, you can really see it at 7:38 of your video above.

Two songs off the top of my head: 1) You need to check out their set, definitely the final song called “Ijime, Dame, Zettai”, from when they broke out. It was at a UK metal festival in 2014, I believe. There’s a great back story to it and how nervous they were. 2) “Distortion” from Download Festival 2018. I’m sure there are others people will suggest, but these definitely stick out to me as ones you should watch.

6:07 idk if your screen is mirrored or if you actually mean the girl on the right as we see it in the video. The girl on the right is Moa. The girl on the left is Yui. Yui is known as the angel of dance, or Yui Bot, usually fans tend to believe that she is the better dancer, but of course this is just an opinion.

Yui was clearly the better dancer of the two throughout their early years. She had training before entering Sakura Gakuin and a drive for it (wanting to "be a Karen Girl's"). Moa did catch up over time and developed her own individual strength in dancing which was/is different than Yui's precision.

The girl on the right is Yui Metal also known as Yui Robot because she is the best dancer and almost never made a mistake in her choreography. Sadly she have left the group. 😭

So...Let's go back some further. In this vid, Moa wears a black shirt with hearts on it, Yui wears a black shirt with a skull and the lead singer Suzuka wears a white shirt with a sunflower. Suggestions for next one... Akatsuki live in Budokan black night 2014, ijime dame zettai live sonisphere 2014, or, as you've just reacted to doki doki morning, try uki uki midnight (often overlooked and underrated imho). A live version is good, crowd interactions are great 👍

You need to do some BAND-MAID. Another Japanese band, all female. The best rock band on the planet. Just pick any song by them but make sure it’s live. Perhaps start with “Play”, “Moratorium”, “Don’t you tell ME”. Basically anything as every song is awesome. You won’t be disappointed, but you will be amazed.

It seems you guys haven't done any Su solos, so I say Rondo of Nightmare should definitely be next!! The song is a Su solo, before Yui left they used to mix these in during concerts together with some Black Babymetal songs (Yui and Moa only) so the three of them could take a small break from all the dancing and singing and catch some air. You should do the one with the Mischiefs of God intro, it's live and it's awesome.

Baby Metal must be my favourite band I don't know why they aren't more popular in the west. The girls were in a band called Sakura Gakuin which is part of the idol system in short the girls and guys are recruited and graduate at around 25 although so do so much earlier Sakura Gakuin had different groups with in it called clubs Baby metal was called the heave Music club Su-metal Graduated in 2013 when she was about 16 mo and Yui were about 14 and still in Sakura Gakuin Koba-Metal had recruited Su metal from Karen Girl's thinking she would be a great vocalist for the heavy club which of course she was the girls have managed to carry on a singing career much longer than an idol band usually would becoming independent from Sakura Gakuinin 2013. Sakura Gakuinin disbanded not eh 31's of August 2021 although Baby Metal had all Graduated by then Ski had to leave the group for medical reasons but she is featured on Distortion from Baby Metals 3rd studio album Metal Galaxy in 2019.

YuiMetal and MoaMetal have their own solos as a duo (AKA Black Babymetal) as well. This was so that the girls could alternate taking short breaks during their high energy concerts

Su-Metal's name isn't Sakura it's Suzuka. Sakura is reference to Sakura Gakuin, the performing arts school they attended and graduated from when they reached 15 years old. Also Doki Doki Panic! Isn't the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2, it's was actually a different franchise altogether that was reskinned for Western audiences and released as Super Mario Bros 2. The Japanese version of SMB2 is what we call SMB: The Lost Levels.
