Oh damn! If 6 Was 9 and Crosstown Traffic are my 2 favorite Hendrix songs. Y’all should check them out 😊 Prince is severely underrated as a guitar player! Somebody correct me if I’m wrong but I think The Jimi Hendrix Experience is the name of his band, and the album is called Are You Experienced?

Jimi another musical savant from Seattle helped usher in the grunge era poking holes in his speakers to get them to distort and playing the first fuzz pedals which grunge would become know for 3 decades later the Octavia fuzz pedal was the first of its kind and developed here in Seattle by his guitar tech Roger Mayer

Remember playing this amongst many other Jimi songs whilst at a military show here in the UK. I was dressed in US Vietnam infantry gear as a reenactor. I was surrounded by military vehicles of the period sat by a camp fire drinking beer.. was the most surreal but most amazing night. Something about Jimi just touches your soul like no other.

I've only listened to this audio slower version a few times...nice. Please react to the black and white German TV show video live (my favorite, watched it and reactions to that hundreds of times). There's also a live version from the Monterrey festival. He was big when I was 14. I'm 66 now. I didn't know then that his roots were the blues which I love. Pimply teenage boys would lock themselves in their rooms with Jimi posters and black light, smoke weed and listen to his album for days. That turned me off to learning his music! But strangely, I have always had the same vision of Jimi over these decades. Thanks to KZfaq, I love this song and listen to all the reactions. I'm just not much into his other songs unless they are blues based.

I feel like the thing that people don't really seem to talk about it is Jimmy would never have been as popular as he was/is if it weren't for the musicians behind him. Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell were probably the best match for the genius that is Hendrix at the time. This song is a great example. The bassline itself is iconic and the flare on those drums is just perfectly matched for everything going on. I personally can't imagine anybody else really backing him up.

As a few others have mentioned, The Jimi Hendrix Experience is the name of the band. Are You Experienced? is the name of the album. Other good songs from Jimi include 'Red House', 'Fire' (which I'm sure is one of the other songs of his Hollywood has heard), 'Foxy Lady' (which was the song Garth lip synced in "Wayne's World"), just to name a few. And of course 'Purple Haze' and his rendition of 'The Star Spangled Banner'.

Jimi changed the way guitar was played...even thought of as an instrument. He not only played lead and rhythm on guitar, he developed it into a percussion instrument. You can see Jimi do all 3 in the same song on his rendition of Star Spangled Banner. Also, Jimi was doing this in the late 60s. May, Prince, Stevie Ray Vaughn ....they all came later. Jimi's contemporary was Eric Clapton, another great guitarist in the late 60s and beyond to this day but Jimi took the guitar places that Clapton never went. Stevie Ray Vaughn is the greatest rock/blues guitarist who ever lived. One of his influences was Hendrix. SRV performs Voodoo Child even better than Jimi did but 15 years after Jimi passed. Hendrix was the pioneer. SRV perfected the craft.
@JR-rk3hs

srv is not better than hendrix. he does not perform voodoo child better than hendrix. hendrix was far more innovative, important, and electrifying. and he was a far more explosive guitarist, playing the most unique almost avant garde stuff. to compare srv to him is a joke honestly. srv was a great blues player. hendrix was an alien, a force of nature, a top 10 musical genius who ever lived.

I normally am not one to say you shoulda reaacted to Live, but, uh, you should have reacted to Live. He sings while chewing gum, plays the guitar with his teeth and tongue, plays behind his head. Long before Vaughn and VanHalen copied where Hendrix had already been. So, in your arguments, it's true, you don't start with Number 1 but to start with an inferior copy of number 4... *smh*
