Rare Earth was a band formed in the 1960s and was signed by Motown records. The leader was basically Peter Rivera, their lead singer and drummer. They became known as a jam band in concert with long renditions of their hits. The album Rare Earth In Concert is their best example. One of my best friends growing up had an older sister who owned a yellow VW bug and he would borrow it and we would cruise around town and it’s outskirts jamming to and 8-track copy. Thank you for bringing back wonderful memories. Other songs “I just want to celebrate”, “ Get Ready”, “Big Brother”. They were a great band to groove with and celebrate life and youth.

I can’t remember ever hearing that song by Rare Earth. Funky/R&B and the flute was a great touch. These brothas were from Detroit and signed by Motown, the first successful all white band to do so. Thanks guys. 🔥

The lead singer was also the drummer. That was a magical, musical time to be alive. Rare earth was always blaring on someone's stereo as you walked by their porch. War was another group that was always front and center in those golden daze of funked up music.

I knew you would love this. Rare Earth was my go-to group in the 70's. They did a fantastic cover of the Temptations "Get Ready" that is something else. Also, "Big John Is My Name" "Ma" and many more in this rabbit hole! Thanks for the joy!

Motown signed Rare Earth in 1969. They had hits with the covers of The Temptations songs "Get Ready" and "I Know I'm Losing You". Another big hit was "I Just Want to Celebrate". When you listen to "Get Ready" make sure it's the album version 21.5 minutes long. I believe this song "Born to Wander" was an original Rare Earth composition with the drummer on lead vocals.

Rare Earth is a Rock band from Motown that has a Rock Motown sound. they also did "I Just Want To Celebrate" and "Get Ready" which was a cove song of the Temptations. Very successful Rock band. Continuing that Blue-eyed Soul" music genre.
