This footage is from the same friend of ours who gave us yesterday’s marksman video, and the same one we funded a suppressor for. He has a buymeacoffee link in the description in case you’re looking to go above and beyond with support. (Also, our friend Arnie got his Jamming backpack yesterday which many of you raised money for). They’re both incredibly thankful for the support, even just by watching their experiences. We love you all, and I’ll keep you updated on where the donations go as I put out more combat footage. Thank you, Slava Ukraini.

Seeing the contrast in the videos that come out of this conflict, not just in intensity or tactics, but down to the dialogue, the terrain, the weather, the condition of the trenches the attitudes of the men. It’s both heartbreaking and incredible to see. Just seeing the green of the grass on the edges of their trench brought an almost unsettling calm. I’m not sure how to describe it.

This is honestly the most terrifying video I have seen from Ukraine to do with artillery, we think back on WW1 and WW2 and hear of shell shock and PTSD. Its almost like seeing some of those historic battles being played out, back to trench warfare. Its honestly crazy to hear that, knowing someone is under that heavy barrage let alone near it, imagine hearing this as a civillian living near, knowing this is coming your way. I saw another video of bahkmut before from the group I donate too who supply trucks to the front line, they was in that town and the damage already from unconcentrated artillery and strikes was severe, and that was before this barrage. Unbelievable, you have my unwavering support, to volunteer and live through this, all those soldiers are heros.

Put some quality headphones on and the immersion is insane. I cannot imagine being present here, various types of explosions from artillery, grenades, rocket artillery, mortars, RPGs, small arms etc. all going off constantly. These dudes just chilling in the trench waiting for the order to go over the top. This is how I imagine the daily life of a soldier in a trench on the western front during WWI must have been like. Absolutely insane! Over 100years later and war hasn’t changed all that much.

11:14 - I see that "bonking" is still an issue. Here's an excerpt from an article in 2011 about that. _The digital radios' shortcomings are so widely known that they've acquired nicknames. There's the 'digital cliff,' when a radio is out of range and the connection ends without warning. There's 'bonking' - also dubbed 'the sound of death' by some Philadelphia firefighters - when an important transmission gets rejected because too many other radios are using the system. Then there's 'going digital,' when a radio emits a garble of beeps and tones instead of a voice._
@R4002
@R4002 2 ай бұрын
Digital radios have some serious advantages, but they also have some major shortcomings. The “digital cliff” is one of them. My local fire department uses analog mode for fireground (on scene comms) because of the issues with digital voice. It’s better to have 50% of a transmission come through compared to nothing at all. Armies still have and train radio operators because there’s an art to using comms gear, especially outside the realm of talking to somebody that’s 1-2 km or so away from you. Best bet is to have a primary and secondary/backup radio. They should be able to talk to each other, even if that’s in analog mode. Also, don’t discount tactical HF. For these purposes, VHF high band (136-174 MHz) is fine, and low/mid band VHF (FM tactical radio) is slightly better. Yep we’re 20 years into the 21st century but often it’s 1940s radio technology that works best.

@@R4002Eeyup! Old School is still best school. HF goes a looooong way! I remember doing HF relay exercises while in Hawai'i, with stations in San Diego and Norfolk.
@R4002
@R4002 2 ай бұрын
@@IonOtteryessir, HF is still used for all sorts of purposes and there are a lot of reasons for that. For short range tactical comms, the typical handheld VHF radios and VHF/UHF radios (136-174 MHz, 400-512 MHz, coverage might be slightly different depending on the radio) are fine. There are situations where the 30-88 MHz VHF FM (often just called “FM” to avoid confusion with the VHF 108-137 MHz aircraft band) is superior. Lower frequencies mean longer range, but they also require longer antennas. For short range comms, you can usually get away with a crappy antenna. Usually. I still think having a secondary radio (backup radio) is ideal. For longer range (beyond line of sight, which is in the 1-3 km ballpark for infantry at ground level with no high ground) recon ops, tactical HF is often the best option.

It occurs to me that there will be a whole generation of veterans to whom the whirring of a drone (or perhaps something similiar, like a small vacuum cleaner) could send into PTSD.

Are the Ukrainians still looking for Foreigners to fight for them? If so what unit is best to join? I've heard of blokes going over and basically being tossed into absolutely abysmal units and so it put me off for a long time but I've heard others say its not too bad now. Was in the British Army for 8 years had have experience in C-IED

Thankfully, nobody has shot at me before or tried to kill me using artillery. Although I have heard 155mm artillery impacting and it sounded to me like an ominous boom. So a question, why does that artillery crump and not boom. Is it distance?

As an old Royal Australian Artillery Gunner, it is a distortion of distance, and echoing from the surrounding ground. I’ve had firsthand experience in an observation bunker, where 105mm, and 155mm shells were fired in front of the bunker by 10s of meters, and it certainly does go bang, and fu*king boom. It was a rather frightening experience, and really gave you a window into what it was like from the pointy end in the open, and thankful feeling that you were in a massive bunker with 300mm armoured glass in front of you.

Blue tape is used to signify Ukrainian units, identification markers like that are being used on both sides due to the amount of similarities in gear.

As an old Artillery Gunner, you could watch the shells disappear into the distance from the firing position, and with rocket assist shells, you could see the shell when the rocket would engage. And as an FO (forward observer) see the rounds come in to the target area.

Seeing all this trench warfare in HD knowing a lot of these guys probably aren’t here anymore God rest em.. but it’s crazy how conjoined life and death is in trenches.. When we die, we go 6 feet under in the same soil we use to fight for survival on to prevent us from going 6 feet under and by digging your potential grave you may yet have a chance to live.. mind blowing that the safest place is your head on the dirt when our deaths are just opposite sides of wherever you might fall.. life is facing dirt, death is facing the sky
