Obi is awesome. I have followed him for a couple of years. But...the cue you gave on his double kbell thrusters of thumb to back was freaking excellent! I realized that my thumbs are pointing inboard on my overhead presses. I tried the movement empty handed and felt the difference right away. Great stuff.

Obi comes from a body building background and then went into CrossFit, hence why he describes himself as a 'Crosslifter'. In CrossFit "for time" is shorthand for "here is the amount of work to be done, maintain good form but work against the clock" ie as fast as safely possible. "Amrap" would be "here are the exercises and loads, and an amount of time to work for, do as many rounds as possible (amrap) in the given time.

Great video breakdown Gregory. I liked his warmup if maybe a little long? (those banded sidesteps I call monster walks, are great for glute activation, and the death march is also good but I get your point of potential issues if your mobility is limited). I'm with you on the American swings, and he was also doing it the way I see a lot of Crossfitters do it where they almost press the bell out at the top.

I hope all of your techniques are "perfect" in all of your videos. I am just beginning my kettlebell training journey and getting value a lot of value from Obi & Chandler Marchman and others. I guess you are the "standard" which everyone must be measured by. I was enjoying your channel but now I must "unsubscribe".

@@clevelandaglennable if you're getting value from Obi then power to you. I thought the commentary on his training and technique was pretty positive. Is Gregory the last word in kettlebell technique? No, and I'm sure he'd be the first to tell you the same 🙂 none of us are perfect, but he's a purist and there is a lot of garbage technique peddled by fitness trainers and influencers with very large followings, so I think the point of these videos is to respectively review the technique (I've never heard him bashing anyone). For someone just starting out I would think it would help to know if the person you're learning from is teaching the correct and - most importantly - safe technique. Good luck

Bro- exactly. Internal Rotation up that high will (probably) cause spacing problems for most people. I HATE when people do that "american" style or whatever they call it. Look up "open packed" position for more info. Plus, the exercise adds nothing!

Lebe, coming from the perspective of a performance coach and a Physical Therapist..you do a great job with your reviews, you’re entertaining and offer solid info, but to “nitpick” just a little..there are no bad positions for the body (you refer to Overhead and IR shoulder in the video), there are only positions in which you find yourself in that the tissue load exceeds tissue tolerance = pain. So if that position is painful for you, yes avoid it and work (with a professional if needed) to slowly recapture that range. Be cautious in discussing “bad positions” because people start to avoid them like the devil, there tolerance in that position plummets from a lack of exposure, and then a load in that position that would not have been stressful or harmful previously now becomes too much and that is what actually causes injury. Expose yourself to the extremes under appropriate progressive loading and you’ll find yourself farm more resilient than if you avoided those positions
@lebe-stark
@lebe-stark 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for sharing Dylan! You've mentioned some great points; especially the idea of exposing oneself to all kinds of movements/ positions. I should do better in articulating my thoughts. If we leave weights aside, I don't think that there's any "bad" position you can put your body in. However, I do see a certain danger with particular exercises once weights come in. This is where I draw the line. - Gregory

Thank you for pointing out that you wouldn’t get his physique with kettlebells alone. I love both bodybuilding and kettlebell training but I typically do them in separate phases. Like 12-16 weeks of bodybuilding followed by 6-8 weeks of kettlebells and then back to bodybuilding. Basically bulk up to get much bigger and stronger and then use kettlebells to right my conditioning and get lean before my next cycle. Not necessarily the best way to bulk and cut but definitely the way I enjoy.

Sounds like a good strategy Getting Wade! Bodybuilding doesn't really transfer athletically but even heavy bells have limits to build muscle mass. So again... WISE THINKING.

@@ShapochkinKirill thank you for the positive feedback! I would only clarify that having more muscle mass actually transfers really well to almost any sport (except maybe long distance endurance sports but it still generally holds). This is why athletes train hypertrophy in their off season. Even golfers. Again, I love kettlebells and appreciate your comment my friend 😁
