In Germany there are similar economic problems as in the UK, but not to the same extent. As for the EU, the British have never understood why the EU even exists. It's a freedom project. For the British, however, it is only a sales market. As long as the island sees it that way, I want Great Britain to remain outside the EU and I want Ireland to be reunified.

Exactly. But the sad thing is that I feel like lots of British Politicians in the past would've been in favor for the EU given the circumstances that they're no longer a colonial power. Only a united EU has even a smidge of a chance on the world stage at being taken seriously, both against companies like facebook and apple as well as against countries like the US and China. People in charge of those laugh their asses off right now because a broken EU means they can easily make deals with single states and put them against each other or bully them into unfavorable deals that single countries would have to accept with no influence of their own.

6:00 "Harry, hol' schon mal den Wagen!" That's a joke that was originally made about a long running TV-Crime series called "Derrick" running from around the 70s to the 90s. Derrick was the main character, a Chief Inspector with the Munich police. With him worked a DS by the name of "Harry Klein", who did solid work, but was very much talked down to by Derrick in the best 1960s old white man fashion... The line "Harry, get the car immediately!" actually was never said verbatim in the series, but formed by the viewers, giving a perfect catchphrase image of the detectives' work relationship. The first thing that comes to mind when you're my age and hear the name "Harry" still is that line.

@@annnee6818 Ah, the early years of the Internet when we still thought this amazing invention would allow easy information access and fast global communication. That part was true. What we didn't realize back then is that it also allows efficient distribution of disinformation and easy communication between the village idiots and their conspiracy BS who were isolated before and limited to small printed mailing lists about Area 51. Now all the fake moon Landers, flat earth earthers, climate change deniers and anti-vaxxers and other assorted anti-science idiots can easily get together and nod agreement to each other. Mistaking their opinions for facts. Actual factual information is now getting buried under waves of disinformation. Meanwhile traditional media has been bought up by conservatives and is getting defunded or turned into right-wing propaganda, while new online media and social networks thrive on controversy - which ad-sensitive algorithms are happy to supply. Brexit and Trump (and Putin, Bolsonaro, Berlusconi, Netanyahu, BoJo, etc...) wer3 and are serious setbacks. I can understand the frustration of the Brits about the large bureaucratic system in Brussels. We feel the same way here in Germany. On the other hand, we should not forget that the EU and its predecessor institutions have brought us for more than 70 years peace. Especially today, with a new war on our doorstep, I would like to ask: Isn't that worth every euro we pay to Brussels to secure peace in Europe? I mean yes, even if we are angry about certain politicians or the waste of money. The advantages of the EU are: We can go on vacation without a visa and we are allowed to stay there longer. We can work there and use the health system for free, and if we want, we can spend our lives in all EU countries, with the same rights and obligations as the country's own population. A privilege you Brits have lost. Nevertheless, I think the UK made a big mistake by leaving the EU. If I can rely on German television (??), the UK is divided today and most regret voting to leave. However, only the future will tell if the UK made a wise decision. The door to the EU will remain open for the UK, but not on the good terms of the 70s, or as Margrethe Thatcher did with the EU.... I want my money back! This will not work anymore.

You're asking the wrong Germans and the wrong Brits... because I know 2 different groups in Britain that wants the exact opposite, we have the group run by London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, the death to all Brits group, and then we have the group lead by Nigel Farage... the GET OUT Group... Neither group is reasonable, well it depends on what you define reasonable as, if you think Diversity is strength, then the first group of mindless drones are perfectly sensible, and if you think strength in unity, then the second group makes total sense. Now I'm clearly biased towards the second group, and it shows, but I'm a perfectly reasonable person, now I would also say that I'd say they're both pretty useless groups of people. I mean, deporting foreigners with peaceful means, come on, it doesn't work, the Brits are far too inefficient for that to work, now the Germans however, they're masters of rounding up people "peacefully", but that's because Germans are efficient, whether for good or for evil, actually scrap the first part, they've never done any good in the world. Just like that Kenyan boy in the US whose chef was found naked and dead on his estate in Martha's Vineyard. Nobel Peace Prize my ass starting 10 wars... Now I'm pro forceful eradication of foreigners. And there's no racism in it at all, after all, I love foreigners more than I'd ever like my fellow countrymen. After all, the more they fuck up this nation, the sooner my region could get independence from that shithole nation we sadly belong to since 1673. And why I'm pro-xenocide is because it would 0 rate the crime rate in Britain, it would unite the Brits again, and oh don't worry slaying those who are anti-xenocide is also on the agenda, after all, can't have xenophiles ruining the unity, is it a fascist totalitarian solution to a problem, sure is, should we have to take such measures, not really, do they grow ever more necessary for each ongoing day, well in the UK specifically, they should've done it back in 2009 already, when that Journalist one can't mention by name on KZfaq first learned of several(thousands) occurrences of child grape in the town Rotherham. Which the police tried to shovel under the carpet. Now Germans should also fear because their government thought it was a good idea for boys to grow up with pedos to prevent them from becoming no-no Germans. That was up until 1999... boys were forcefully placed in "foster care" truly horrid. So the 2 places on Earth that I wouldn't shed a tear for if they were leveled tomorrow would be Great Britain and Germany, the pedo defender nations.

Mert, thank you for your reaction videos about heute Show. You've confirmed what I've been suspecting for a long time already: that the difference between British and German humor isn't that big as it's often said to be by some British people. After all, people like eg. Rowan Atkinson, John Cleese, Monty Python, Douglas Adams, Stephen Fry, Peter Sellers and Hugh Laurie are/were quite successful in Germany too.

Nette Formulierung... Super- Spreadern...@@MashMashMusic

I think Brexit is a massive mistake, both for the British economy and also, especially, for young people. Being able to travel to, move to or work in 27 countries just across the pond or not - huge difference. The EU isn't a perfect institution - but I always thought we were better together, with the UK within the EU. I hope one day they'll rejoin.

Love your series on Heute Show's Brexit coverage and how you take it like a champ. However, it wouldn't be complete without an episode of the issue of October 11, 2019 titled: "Brexit: Lutz van der Horst verkauft den Briten Schmuggelware". There are no English subtitles (and auto-translate doesn't exactly help with this one) but most of it is in (some sort of) English anyway. Basically, it's about the protagonist impersonating an "entrepreneur" who is travelling to the UK trying to sell goods that are supposed to become very expensive after Brexit to random British people and about their reactions. Give it a shot, you won't regret it.

I agree with your statement regarding the graphic designers... Since I am a gamer, I like to compare this stuff to the game-music. A game can be fun, well rounded and overall a great experience without any music but great music used to underline whats happening, can bring the game from being fun to being epic. In a simmilar way these graphics can bring a joke/jab from being amusing to being hilarious. It's not the best comparisson, I know^^

Of course, Germans inflation is feelable over the last two years. Food increased 10-20%, energy 50-300%, vacations abroad EU and non EU 50%. Salary increased depending on employer's capacity around 5%. And some governments induced inflation compensation around 1500 - 3000€ as tax free payments per Year through employers and as well depending on employer's capacity someone gets some and others not.

Here in Germany inflation is also extremely high, some products are even twice as expensive as before COVID-19. Especially meat, wheat products and cheese. Electricity has also become significantly more expensive. Of course, the price developments here are not just because of COVID-19, but also because Russia is no longer a trading partner and because of products that could previously be imported cheaply from Ukraine.

Oh, for the 'Royals' segment they botched a double entendre: 'Heute Show Royal TS' would have been better translated as 'Heute Show Royal with cheese', as the famous McDonalds burger is branded that way in Germany. And it would have solidified the pointlessness of those public discussions as 'Yellow Press' is sometimes calls 'Käseblatt' in Germany, which would literally translate as 'cheese paper'.

But being from Germany, nobody will buy this anyway as everybody knows that Germany is powerful and wants to tell everyone what to do , blah, blah, blah... Anyway, I guess the British - or English - never felt at home in the EU anyway, so I don't want to judge this. Just want to say that the UK in fact DID HAVE a massive impact on EU politics, now the have no say and have to accept EU policies as they come. Wild UK is confused! Wild UK hurts itself!

Funny story. Manneken Pis came to Bogense in 1934 as a gift from consul Willum Fønss. The good story is that the consul was a cabin boy who was found abandoned on the ferry between Klakring and Bogense - and when no one wanted to acknowledge the child, master butcher Levinsohn took the little boy in and raised him. But the story is not entirely true… Willum Fønss was born in Copenhagen in 1869 as the son of Charlotte Emilie Levin and servant Wilhelm Christiansen Fønss. They were not married, and that was a great shame for Charlotte Emilie - and at that time it was extremely difficult to live as a single mother and give her child the best conditions. So little Willum was sent to Bogense as an infant to live with his grandmother and grandfather, master butcher Meyer Levinsohn. He had a safe childhood and went to the civic school at Torvet in Bogense, was trained in hardware and moved from Bogense and abroad, later came back to Denmark and became successful as a weapons dealer, opened hardware stores and bought properties in Copenhagen. He was also appointed Greek Vice-Consul.

"Harry, hol schon mal den Wagen" which was shown in the Meghan + Harry story is a nigh untranslatable joke. It means "Harry, could you just get the car", but it is a reference to the long running policing series Derrick, where assistant Harry Klein never really had anything meaningful to do. It is actually one of those urban myth quotes that was never said in the series.
