You might get a kick out of the behind the scenes, if you're into that. All of the principal actors did all of their own motion capture. That means the little kid that played Sho actually played Sho both in the real world as well as in the computer sim. Same with Aech - also kind of neat how they did that. - lots of technology (some of it at pioneering levels) involved for the techno nerds that see this

The ending is problematic when it comes to closing down the Oasis on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In the RPO world, there are some (think paraplegic and/or quadriplegic) people who rely on the Oasis for mobility, so Wade and Co. are relagting those people to bear with their disability for two days a week. For them, it's pretty unfair. They may not be addicted to the Oasis as others others are or at least, not for the same reasons. There are also people who might earn their living in the Oasis and may not be able to conduct business on other days and require the income they may earn on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Again, Wade and Co. are limiting the income of those people.

on another note! this movie separates the kinds of gamers over the generations. Gamers now don't appreciate where gamers have gone through in the past (except the antagonist here, because the author also knows) but there is a persistence and resilience of past gamers without saves, with starting over after hours of play, without retaining anything. This mortality is portrayed in the gravity of losing everything in this movie so well

The beauty about this movie and the hunt for the egg is as you get more of the pop culture references, you understand more easter eggs. From the battle of 2 iconic japanese mecha of Gundam vs Mecha Godzilla, to little things like Planet Doom is a reference to Voltron from the 80s, right down to Wade’s apt at the end having a Bat’Leth from star trek and when wade gets the first key is called a padawan. You will always find more easter eggs.

Did you notice it was directed by Steven Spielberg? He's been into video games since the original Pong in the 1970s. He used to have full arcade cabinets in his office in the 1980s, which the kids in his movies would play when on break from filming. I think Spielberg's mastery of storytelling is fully evident here. The pacing of the movie is non-stop, not just the action, but the way the story flows and develops. There are no wasted scenes or distractions. Everything in this advances the plot or develops the characters. It also does so with extreme clarity, which is a tremendous feat given how complicated the story is, set in the future, and flipping back and forth between the real world and a fantasy world. I think it's Spielberg's most entertaining movie since the 1980s.

Samantha is played by Olivia Cooke, who's around our age, well close to mind, because she's exactly 4 days yonger than me lol Also gotta love Ben Mendelsohn, the Aussie who's Krennic in Rogue One and Talos in Marvel, and his subordinate, played by Hannah John Kamen, who was Ghost in Ant-Man 2, Can't forget Tye Sheridan, Young Cyclops lol

Now, this is a fun film. It's also a veritable basket full of Easter Eggs. :) One legitimate criticism about the protagonist was his lack of interest in/awareness of how events in the real world affected the lives of real people. Unfortunately, like it or not, I think that reflects the attitude held by a lot of hard-core gamers. Fun fact: Ready Player 2 was released late last year, but supposedly wasn't as good a book. Needless to say, the movie is in the works. :)

Always enjoy how invested you get in movies, like me I get drawn into the worlds presented, usually more so if written well. This was no exception, you're always a treat to watch so thank you. Would love to see you react to the comedy movie of Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story or Mystery Men. Again, thanks for another great reaction video.

Watched for the first time, so I could watch your reaction. To many references to catch on the first watch. But, something I did notice. Art3mis’s coloring in OASIS matches her birthmark. You talking about the differences between Parzival & Art3mis in OASIS made me realize it.

The pop-culture references in the book are insane, in the movie, well, I think you might have had to live through the 80s and 90s or watched a TON of stuff to catch them. So much good stuff in the book though, but the movie is fun in its own right. 👍

This was filmed in Birmingham, England even though it's supposed to be Ohio. Spielberg did a great job with this one. Can't wait for the sequel which the screenplay is being written now.

This was based on a novel by Ernest Cline, who has since written a sequel called 'Ready Player Two'. The novel manuscript was the focus of a bidding war among publishing companies and then was in a bidding war for movie rights. Before it was published Cline was known for two things...he was a Texas-based slam poet/performance poet (find "Dance Monkey Dance" on KZfaq performed by him...it is both profoundly cynical and hysterical) and he wrote a really sweet comedy film called 'Fanboys' that was about a group of Star Wars fans desperately trying to get to LucasFilm so they can be the first fans to see 'Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace' before it gets released in theaters...because one of the group has a terminal illness. One of the stars of that was Kristen Bell (the voice of Anna in 'Frozen' and 'Veronica Mars'). The sheer amount of pop culture references that are in both books are ENORMOUS, especially if you were an 80s kid (like me)...and A LOT had to be altered or flat out changed for the film version because of all of the rights that would have to be secured for use in the film. The novel has an entire Spotify "soundtrack" playlist compiled by the author. Ernest Cline also wrote the screenplay. When he was promoting the novel, Cline had bought a real DeLorean DMC (which is the car Parzival has in both the book and the movie) with the money he made on the book advance and the movie right sales money, which he altered to look partially like the time machine DeLorean in 'Back To The Future', and drove it to all of the book signings. He calls his DeLorean "Ecto-88". He is currently working on the screenplay for 'Ready Player Two'.

This movie reminds me of what's going on in GTARP right now hahah. Everyone was trying to solve Dean Watson's riddle and when someone got it other's followed. They should have a server wide challenge that everyone can participate in for something huge, a legal thing that's not robbing a casino.

If you loved the movie, you will really like the book. I have the audio book, which is narrated by Wil Wheaton, who does a really nice job with the story. The second book is less popular, but I really liked the story...especially the part played by Og and his Wife. I hope they make a movie from that, too.

You should read the book now. It has different details that just wouldn't have worked well on screen. And the follow up book Ready Player Two is great too.
