Right before covid I began eating healthy. I cut out all sweaters in drinks and all processed carbs. I have lost 12” on my waist and have put all my levels back into what is considered very healthy for a man my age. I have done very little exercise and I actually each 2400-3000 calories a day. I continue to loose weight and my doctor is proud of me for nothing. I have done nothing, this is easier than any “diet” ever was. I hate to think how much time I wasted, I’m just happy to be free.

Ditto..wife is an Asian chef & still nags at me about disposing the microwave, 4-5 years ago..if it doesn’t oil like it came from a tree or out of the ground, it ain’t food & I don’t eat it. I like the occasional bit of lamb or fish but it’s gotta be pasture raised lamb or wild caught fish..at 44 years of age, I feel faster, stronger, fitter & smarter than ever before & my family & friends don’t understand how this can be..it isn’t bloody rocket science..I only eat food which is nutrient dense & intended for us humans 🤷‍♂️

I agree with everything said here. The elephant in the room is big business, ubiquitous food and sodas in almost all airports, train stations and nearly all public buildings. Then there is the constant bombardment of advertising, sports sponsorship and shops strategic placement of all sorts of sugar products. You have to really know what you're shopping for and stick to it. Unfortunately the Government will never tackle the corporates and we're living in an era of such self indulgence It's difficult for people I say this as someone who has not struggled with weight but can see how it can creep up on people

@@altagroenewald9094 I'd say going black and white will lead to disordered eating. No sugar or all the sugar is not a healthy way to think. The only time I'd say go no sugar is if you have absolutely no tendencies towards perfectionism and you have a severe unmanageable addiction to sugar. Otherwise, moderation is key. I actually don't plan my meals, I don't care to because I am one of those with disordered eating. I do intuitive eating and that's what has worked for me. Naturally, this way I described that I eat is what I fell into. Most days, I crave fats and proteins, some days I'll have sweets. @@johncoe6304, many people stop because sugar, including fructose, is so addictive. Another reason is somethings are easy to substitute like canola oil to olive oil, but I miss toast with breakfast and a great big sub for lunch or a dinner roll to sop up gravy at dinner. Yes, there's gluten free, but it's not the same. And if your goal is no refined grains, then gluten free is hard to find. The third reason is mindset. Some people see this as a diet and not a new lifestyle. It's hard to maintain whilst your friends and family aren't on the same page. It's like falling off a horse... It happens once in a while, but you dust yourself off and get back on if you can show yourself (and others) some grace! Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵😷

I totally agree with excess sugar being a major problem. An old cookbook I owned had outrageous sugar measurements in the baking recipes. Or how about adding sugar to your vegetables while cooking? Try going into a supermarket and finding wholesome foods to take home to your family. The food processing industry is giving us few choices for healthy food, using sugar, among other things like a drug dealer to get us hooked. That’s where the solution to the sugar problem has to start; forcing food giants to stop plying their products with sugar and other chemicals that are causing our health to go haywire.

I agree. I have watched over the years as so called experts talked about food, which is good and which is bad for health. First it was butter, bad, then margarine good, now butter is good again. I watched my friends eating egg whites and throwing the yolks away. I have seen the processed frozen food isles get bigger and bigger at the supermarket. And soda. Oh yeah the soda. Some tried to blame the high fructose corn syrup in soda not realizing that sugar is sugar. I see the Mexican people getting fatter and fatter as their standard of living rises, mostly due to soda. I don't believe anything they tell me anymore about food. I buy fresh vegetables whenever possible, this is 80% of my diet. 10% fruit and 10%meat. With this diet I can eat anything I want and never get fat. I make most of my meals at home, at least I know what goes into it. No donuts, pies, cookies, cake or candy. Some cocoa. One thing the doctor didn't mention, and looking at his body I think he should take it to heart, is the importance of exercise. Just looking at the supermarket parking lot where all the carts are left in the parking stalls tells you how lazy the average north American is. Get out there and generate some sweat. It is good for you.

This is asked with much ignorance about how the situation is in Brazil but, is it at all possible to grow some of your own? Maybe a neighborhood community garden or exchanging home grown produce with neighbors? 🤷🏿‍♀️ I get the struggle to afford eating healthy, real food. Slowly adding to and growing a garden can gradually decrease your grocery bill and make room to buy things you can't grow yourself(meat, eggs, cheese). Just sharing my experience.

Its ignorance. Its believing body size correlates with health. There are plenty of thin people that are sickly and also the "skinny fat" phenomena. If extra pounds do not negatively affect your health, its irrelevant. Dr. Weil's approach is groundbreaking, but sadly many people wont take heed.

thamuthafiga the less people know the more they bicker. A quote from the documentary “milk.” People who don’t know enough to debate the issues will resort to name calling and making fun at the person speaking. He should take it as a Compliment.

When you watch movies and TV shows from the 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s, notice not only the portion size difference but also the amount of food on the fork/spoon. I realize we’re talking movies. But today not only are portions much bigger, we often tend to shovel food in rather than fully chew and savor our food.

@@cincin4515 lol. We referred to it as inhaling ones food. I was a nurse for over 40 years, always eating on the run. It takes a conscious effort to slow down, and actually taste and enjoy my food….

Thank you, Dr. Weil. I am so so tired of the "diet wars". Vegan is best. No. Carnivore is the one. Go keto! It's making me crazy. Thank you for this common sense approach, which I am going to follow.

This was a wonderful lecture with your summary of so much important research. Every school child should be informed about what you have been saying. In Germany previously, real fruit juice was sold in 1-liter bottles. Now the cheaper brands are 2 1/2 liter bottles, which are chiefly sugar and coloring. Children apparently feel a necessity to have a bottle of this sugar solution in the vicinity. Obesity is also becoming a serious health problem. Tell us more about inflammation in future lectures.

Ive completely eliminated the added sugar factor from packaged foods from my diet. I know exactly how much sugar I consume. I mostly use monk fruit sugar, because it doesn't cause glycemic spikes. I stopped eating and drinking almost all manufactured foods thru big Ag.

I bought Dr Weils book on juicing for health over 20 ys ago to help with gallstones . Saved me from getting gall bladder surgery . Now what has slipped into our manufactured foods is the introduction of palm oil . Horrible !

The trend since 1900 has been to drop out produce from the diet. In 1900 US ate 130 lbs/yr/capita. By 2000, only 11. 11 lbs vs 130 lbs. In 1900 heart attack deaths were 3 percent, by 2000 over 50 percent. It's not what we eat, it's what we don't. And recall, in 1900 they didn't even have produce all year long.

Hi, Dr. Weil. Great info! Do you have any insight on why my serum IgA level might be elevated? It was checked 5 years ago. The lab's upper end cut-off was 394, and mine was 451 and 3 years later, it was 423. I'm healthy and now age 49. I requested an SPEP which found polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia, but doctor was unconcerned. Just curious if it's just 'normal' for some people.
