How to replace the rear brake pads on a 2002 Lexus LS430. Didn't bother with rotors since its such an old car but its always a good idea to just knock out the rotors too if you can get them at a reasonable price. Either way DIY saves you a ton!

made it look pretty simple, Thank the engineers at Lexus for not making the pads difficult to access. The only thing I would recommend is using a brake pad spreader vs a c-clamp, it provides more uniform pressure. Thanks for video.

Thanks for the suggestion. We (I) used what we had but I bet renting one from autozone wouldn’t be too hard and probably free!

I now have confidence in doing this myself. Especially because I don't have a drill like everyone else😅

I’ve heard that it’s recommended to open the reservoir under the hood before compressing the pistons. What do you think?

Honestly never heard of that before. But I’m not a mechanic either.

Isn’t there a wire that lets you know pads have wore down that you gotta reconnect

There is but I don’t recall where that is. Might just be on one side or just the front don’t remember. If you remove it just make sure to put it back :-)

You could have left a cover all all you had to do was press the caliber in on one side then put the pad in and then go to the other side press the caliber back and put the pad in without taking a Caliber off

that makes sense. but if you do rotors you have to remove the caliper.

Shouldn't you open the bleeder screw before pushing the piston back? This way you don't push any contaminates back through you ABS system. You then close the bleeder screw as soon as you are finished pushing the piston back, so you don't have to bleed the brakes. Check your brake fluid level when done. You should also replace your brake fluid every 3 years.

Maybe…. I’ve just never done it that way. Works great.

Dude, you don't have to remove the caliper to compress the pistons. Use a large screwdriver or pry bar with old pads in. Also don't use a torque wrench to break bolts free. Thays how you ruin a torque wrench
@shavedpenquin
@shavedpenquin Жыл бұрын
That would work but you risk damaging your rotor or the piston, I think its just too risky personally… I’d just prefer to take the caliper off… No torque wrench was used in this video…

You don't have to remove the caliper.

Please reply on how to do that without removal of the calipers. Without any special tools you need to remove them. Or can you use a screwdriver and pry the pads open?
