Harana is not only for lovers. In our province in Negros, we harana birthday celebrants too. Early morning family and friends gather to sing to a birthday celebrant and the celebrant prepares rice cakes and coffee to serve to the singers. It’s a fun. I miss it ❤ I hope you can experience that there. ❤

Filipinos love to express their feelings through a song. If they can’t sing well, they request someone to sing on their behalf. Yes, I have experienced this, but I was the person being sung to. 🎶

I remember when I was 16 years old in my home province, three university students came singing in front of our house. I was a high school student then. Shy and not ready for such a thing like harana. I was a tall girl, and the guys thought I was 18 or 19 years old. My parents have to let them in. The guy sat in the living room singing love songs. I was so shy, and singing is not my favorite, especially in front of guys and not ready for that kind of event. Omg, they want me to sing. Yes harana is very romantic.

It's true. It's part of our culture, and it directly translates to serenade in English. Though it's now simplified a lot compared to the olden days wherein it's part of the stages of courtship. I forgot the exact order and number, but if I remember correctly, "harana" comes in the mid to latter stage, wherein the man must go to the house of his beloved maiden and sing to her typically right outside of her home. Nowadays, the word simply meant a man singing to the woman he's courting to with a guitar.

It is depends what culture in the Philippines is. In actually that, the Harana was originated during the Spanish period, it is also that called "Kundiman". (It means "love song" in English) In particular way when a man wants to admire her in the house then man use guitar to attract with her, so that a woman attracted with love him because of his lovely song. So romatic! It is always do that before. But in modern times, the ways on how to can admire with her is, it is used only by technology to love someone and can gift for someone to cheer her or chances to love with her, to get the relationship 🥰🙏🙏🙏

Yes Ive heard back in the days it was very popular. But now it’s not as much anymore but if you want to be romantic 💝 You 🫵 can do it for your crush 😉 Harana or Serenade The word serenade comes from the Latin word serenus meaning "serenity." Originally, it referred to a vocal composition performed in honor of a lady or one's lover. It later evolved into an instrumental form. In other words to impress a woman or a lady that you like. Philippines was influenced History. The harana first gained popularity in the early part of the Spanish Philippines period. Its influence comes from folk Music of Spain and the mariachi sounds of Mexico. It is a traditional form of courtship music in which a man woos a woman by singing underneath her window at night. I gotta ask though do Japanese culture or people do something similar to Harana or other words serenade to impress a woman?
