In this video, we remove the hinges from Project Fast Times and we disassemble and inspect them to determine if we should rebuild them or replace them. I also show a cool mod to replace the detent roller from the guys over at NastyZ28 Forum.

You do good work, very detailed and meticulous. It's great to watch a master craftsman properly repair damage and have the ability to teach others. I've watched several of your videos and subscribed to your channel. Please keep it up. For her graduation, my daughter wanted to get 1 of my 79 Z28's running again after being in storage for 20 years, and boy what time does to these cars. You are going to be our best friend while doing most of the repairs.

Thanks for the compliments and thanks for subscribing. I definitely will keep the videos coming. Things have been a little slow on my video production, due to a bath remodel, but hopefully soon, I will be uploading more frequently. Btw that sounds like a great graduation gift!

Very detailed and informative. It would be easy to get parts moved to the wrong location and having to start over! Thanks for the clear explanation and close up video shots. Excellent work then epoxy. Many shoot single stage in jambs and other than a bottom, firewall, the jambs get sandblasted. Over decades my only suggestion is seam sealer. Just an 1/8" bead about an 1/8th from edges with the bottom open. If water gets in, it can drain out. Also, I use anti-seize on the bolts. If it could mess up future paint, I would use a "Q-Tip" on the threaded plate only. Keeps the bolts from rusting and unscrewing easy if needed later. Just a thought. Nice work! DK, Omaha. ASE Master Tech since 78, mechanic since 1970.

Russ, that stand works great!! one thing you may want to get is MAPPS gas, it is hotter then propane and in a pinch if you are out of acetylene you can hook MAPPS up to Oxygen and keep on cutting or braising etc. Keep up the great work

Good info Russ. Thanks for sharing the mod on the detent roller. That's the one part I didn't replace on mine yet. I replaced my hinges with another used set after I found out they were ovaled out. I'm still undecided if I'm going to get Ring Brothers door and hood hinges. Definitely a nice upgrade.

Russ, where did you purchase that door lift? I am currently restoring a 1979 Camero for a family friend and have had to pulled the the doors off. I had someone assist me with the removal and was amazed at how heavy they are. It’s going To be a nightmare trying to reinstall these restored and repainted doors without destroying them. The door lift you seems like the answer to my dilemma.
@DoubleRRestorations
@DoubleRRestorations 9 күн бұрын
It started life as a Parts Tree from Auto Twiler. I modified it into the door lift. I have a few videos of putting it together on the channel. These doors are so heavy. You are correct, its very difficult to do with just a jack.

Question.. I didn’t watch this first and we took off the hinge from the body and didn’t mark it. Any suggestions on how to resemble?

Ever thought of zinc plating the hinges? I know it wasnt done by the factory but I would figure it would prevent rust if/when the paint chips.

Russ, I'm currently in the middle of a 77 Trans Am restoration and am working on the hinges. This video and part 2 are awesome, as are all of your videos, thanks so much.
