New year, fresh start. The roof on the rural Portugal roof is taking shape. The cistern is one week away from collecting and harvesting rain water. #lifestyle #inspiration #renovation

Beautiful property What you can do with the stone walls is leave 1 or 2 parts of it uncovered (no plaster, no dryboard), clean it, point it (colored pasty pointing) and then apply protecting varnish, with a light pointing from the top towards the wall looks great inside the house, maybe a picture hanging too.

Lovely vlog Andy/Andrew! I've watched all through the village house renovation and it's great to see your energy levels are back up. You should be proud of everything you do. Can't believe you let the negative comments get to you. You're such a hard worker and produce a great vlog and seem like a really nice guy. That shot of the dogs at the end really got to me. Gorgeous. 👍

I rarely do, but when I’m not feeling as strong the… ‘your an idiot’, ‘typical foreigner destroying the culture’, ‘talk too much and ramble’, ‘we don’t need to see the dogs, no one cares, just get on with it’, ‘your stupid’, etc etc. that can put you in a negative state. So it makes sense to cut myself off from that. I’m good and strong, thick skinned and I rise above those twats.

Well, one good thing you can say, you don't have to identify the interior load bearing walls! You can pretty much see everything you need to see! I was just watching another couple doing the same cover as you over their fresh water well. They left an opening at one end to access the well's interior for cleaning or whatever. Great minds think alike huh? Gorgeous sunset! I don't think I've ever seen such a total scarlet sunset like that before! Breathtaking! Why do you suppose Medieval Faires always include belly dancers no matter the country? Chocolate is the reward for eating healthy! If I have to eat vegetables, I'd better have a bit of chocolate as a reward! The trick is not to eat more chocolate than vegetables. Yes, it's a challenge. I don't particularly like vegetables. Have a good week! Blessed Be!

I know on farmland in Spain they build drainage ditches all around the side to catch the water and keep the land dry... it also acts as a source of water to use as irrigation since it rarely ever empties... Anyway loved the video as per usual... love the boys anxious to be off on walks the builders are sure cracking on...maybe winter is THE time to build over there? (Mad dogs and Englishmen) thats why they're so happy to get on with it.. even if that house is only built with old stone and rocks look how long it's stood up for! I am sort of amazed at how they can just push the internal walls over..hmmm... This is going to be a cracking home Andrew and echo what someone else said, you were knackered after the home reno in the village in all that heat! They're really making that roof secure which is good to see, building regs have changed a lot since that house was built... you've definitely made the right choice engaging them... you deserve a rest... even though I can see you are itching to get involved. Happy New Year Andrew... it's going to be fantastic. :)

Happy new year. 🍀 A bit of rain 🌧️ must not scare you, although it worried me that the walls would get wet. I hope the roof is finished soon ☔️ We have had rain for 13 weeks now, with some days with a bit of sunshine. Quite the opposite as to your place. Your place is gorgeous . We are hoping not to drown here in the Netherlands 😅

It’s good to see the slow and steady progress with the roof Andrew. Yikes, giving up chocolate! That is a serious resolution! Having been diagnosed as prediabetic in May of 2023 my diet and lifestyle has changed considerably. I haven’t given up chocolate though. I have given up sugar sweetened milk chocolate and have discovered a few dark chocolate bars that i can enjoy a piece or two after dinner without issue. That is a bummer about the rock work around the well. Oh well you win some…. Hope this week goes well. Great video and I love seeing those blue skies and spectacular sunsets.

You will be making the cracked well beautiful, I just know it! The new cistern is perfect, it was a totally interesting build and the top looked like stainless steel instead of concrete! @kmw43596 ай бұрын
18:06 that sky looks like something out of Flash Gordon. Very interesting the way that you are building the cover for your water storage and also very cool to see how the builders are tackling your house. They have ingenious techniques to brace the form work. Also, the guy who used the scaffolding as a ladder at 3:42 … damn, I’m jealous of his knees. I am curious about one thing… I thought you’d said in one video that that last true interior wall (as opposed to the thick wall that used to be the original exterior wall) was also going to be taken down. It looks like it’s staying?

I really enjoy your videos and I think you should keep ignoring the negative comments. Their opinions don't matter if they don't pay the bills. I had an idea - have you considered using the cistern water to cool the gazebo (which is the American term for a bandstand)? I'm not sure if it's feasible, but my idea is to utilize the delta coefficient from the water below, which the ground would insulate and, therefore, have a lower temperature to cool the underside of the gazebo's roof. I was thinking of a small and efficient electric pump that would pump water up from the cistern through flat tubing that runs through the underside of the roof. This pump could be powered by solar panels and the water could be dropped back into the cistern on the opposite side of the intake. According to Google, your highs are in the range of high 20's to low 30's Celsius, so this might not be worth the effort.

Happy New Year Andy, and the best wishes for you to move into the house or some part of it by the end of this year. Thank you for the inspiration on following your dreams. My mate is renovating a tiny house in Setúbal, on his own after having a lousy crew that did a crap job and he's had some issues with moisture coming from the ground up through the walls, as the house is built on soil and thats that. I humbly suggest you to get to know what sort of barrier you have got on the floor that prevents this sort of issues. My dad, who used to be a builder, suggested to my friend to dig into the walls next to the floor as far in as possible and filling up the floor with a thick layer of leca as well as laying an impermeable sort of fabric barrier with the edges also laid inside the walls. A bit tricky to explain., but you seem to have a very experienced crew who are doing a great job and they probaby have plans for this type of issues when the time comes. All the best.
