In many ways this is Craig's Goldfinger. Obviously it's his third, it's arguably his best performance, it has the best villain of his tenure (so far), and a fantastic theme song. Like Goldfinger it also has some illogical stuff; but also like Goldfinger, it's so freaking entertaining and stylish you just overlook all the parts that don't make sense. The cast is superb and it looks beautiful. It's another classic and in my Top Ten.

The theater I work at played Skyfall when it came out and there was one thing that I often looked forward to when doing an auditorium check: hearing the audience reaction to the appearance of the DB5. They ranged from chuckles to some kids saying “Oh man, that is sick!” It’s the stuff I live for.

16:30 that happens to be my favorite use of CGI in film history. They filmed the entire “jellyfish” sequence with Bond’s gloves on, but when they got to the editing room, the creators realized that Craig had been filmed holding onto the elevator WITHOUT gloves. Since it would be too expensive to reshoot the entire scene, they opted to give Craig CGI hands in EVERY SHOT of the fight in the glass maze. I have seen this movie more times than I can count, and yet, I’ve never been able to tell. This is my standard for Bond movies.

"Skyfall" is definitely my most favorite Bond film of Daniel Craig era and one of my most favorites ever. I strongly admire Sam Mendes as a Bond film director. I particularly like the way the emotions get established in his films. I love the scene where Malerie is offering a retirement with dignity to M. I absolutely loved the moment when M said "To hell with dignity. I will leave when the job's done".

Man, I’m so glad you covered the Year of Bond, 2012. That was indeed a great year to be a Bond fan; everything I heard about the movie sounded excellent. Javier Bardem being announced as Silva elevated the excitement because you just knew you were going to get something unique from him. And we hadn’t had that over the top super villain yet (Le Chiffre and Greene mostly being downplayed). I just felt it in the air that this was going to be excellent. Not good, but excellent. I was so happy when it gained the box office and multiple awards. I’ll gush about this movie without any shame whatsoever.

Ive been going through your Bond Film Breakdowns and i like how fans have talked about how each bond has their individual "Goldfinger" Starting With Connery, with Roger Moores being "The Spy who loved me" Dalton's being "License to Kill" and Pierce Brosnan's "Goldeneye" with "Tommorow Never Dies" being a close second place imo,and Daniel Craig's Skyfall undoubtedly being the most beautiful Bond Film in the series. Skyfall feels like the most beautiful and Modern looking film but most importantly it injected the much needed "fantasy of being an international Super Spy" that seems to be lacking from the Craig Era Bond Spy films outside of Casino Royale and Skyfall. Dont even get me started with the Amazing Theme by Adele.

Hear me out, perfectly good reason for Bond to have the old DB5. MI6 had an old unused DB5 outfitted by Q Branch for the OO section back in the 60’s. It was forgotten about for decades and left in a warehouse somewhere, eventually in was found in the 2000’s and Bond bought it from and used parts from it to outfit and restore his own personal DB5, something of a passion project for him. Which would explain why it was in storage with the rest of his possessions after his supposed death.

When I first heard the name "SKYFALL", I thought the film might be an updating of "THUNDERBALL", with a big reveal of the Quantum organization and some world-threatening scheme. I was a bit shocked to find out that instead, we got a "stand-alone" film like "GOLDFINGER". Although, there was ONE element from "TB" included-- Bond having to get himself back in shape, which was a big thing in both Fleming's novelization of the unfilmed scripts, and the 1965 movie. The 1983 remake, also. I wound up likeing "SKYFALL" better than the films that came before it and after it. So... it was a real shame that, due to circumstances, it was the only Bond film since 1973 that I DIDN'T get to see in a theatre, at all. I saw a fuzzy copy of it on KZfaq... after I already saw "SPECTRE" in a theatre. "Silva" just didn't do it for me as a villain. Hmm. And, funny thing... I think he actually LOOKS too much like "Green" in the previous film. Hmm.

Great review, here's my thought about Skyfall... The 23rd Bond feature film was a masterpiece and it's more of a follow-up that it doesnt retreat the same formula like other Bond films and this one was so good. It's amazing that they made a 50th anniversary of James Bond legacy and it delivered more attention since re-watch on Netflix and giving more time of how incredible this film is? It's a film that tells Bond's back story of where it came from and turning into a dark territory of bringing him back to resurrection. Daniel Craig is fantastic as always and he's keeping his 21st century Bond character since two films and he did amazing job as being cold blooded 00 agent and that didnt turn him into a much development since Casino Royale so I wanted more of his character and hes bringing back like Ian Fleming wanted to be a spy hero. The characters are great including the villain Raoul Silva, played by Javier Bardem, he's enjoying everything like a good old Bond villain like always want into an fashion way. Judi Dench as M is very important as well, and I do enjoy her fear and reaction of what will happen if shes going to be safe and along with Bond and M' trustworthy team was really interesting and that makes her so good that her ending was pretty emotional that we always love M in the first place where Judi Dench played her character for so long since the 90's. The new cast is really interesting and having a black Moneypenny, new M, and a high tech nerdy Q was really a choice into a new 21st century of Bond franchise and having a sexiest two Bond gals that I love Naomie Harris' performance and that sexy Bond girl with that silk black dress was hot as ever. I was thought they want Eve to be part of the Bond girl, but they did it until revealed just shown and shes really good in it. The scenes were spectacular and amazing with Deakins' cinematography, well shot action sequences, the music done by Thomas Newman, Sam Mendes' clever original filmmaking experience, and it's very focus as becoming a "The Dark Knight" type of a darker movie. The presentation well organize into an incredible opening and that theme song by Adele was beautiful and very emotional since I would hear that Radiohead of Bond's hit tracks was memorable. I would watch this movie over so its probably on my top 3 classic Bond films as well so I love my favorite Bond film ever is Casino Royale so I'll leave just close. This is the best 50th legacy of Bond's masterpiece into a full circle. I love Daniel Craig's appearance to meet the majesty of the Queen so its cool that they represent the upcoming film in 2012 like releasing the first Bond film of Dr. No.

9/10 Third time was certainly the charm for me. The contrast between the old and new makes for a great tone to an engaging story. It lacks a (proper) Bond girl, lacks the crazy gadgets, and in general doesn't feel like your normal Bond film. All of the pieces came together here and is right up there for me with Goldeneye and Licence to Kill. Skyfall is simply a masterpiece.

Adele's song is one of my favorite Bond themes. One of he reasons is that the movie came out a month or two before what folks were saying the world might actually end for real (supposedly Dec. 21st, 2012), per someones prediction. Her haunting song fit right in; made it that much more memorable. A bit surprised that fact wasn't noted here. Thought the movie itself was such a departure, with MI6 being on the defensive and the gritty, badass final scenes.

To me, Casino Royal is the most entertaining out of the 4 Craig Bond movies so far (here's to hoping No Time to Die will be great). Skyfall is the one that made me feel that the old James Bond tropes can be adapted and made interesting. Watching Skyfall for a second time, I think I've had a change of heart in terms of how I feel. Up until several days ago, I absolutely despised this movie because it felt like the Anti-Tomorrow Never Dies; because it is. There's also the fact throughout this review, all the defense for the leaps in logic can also be made for just about any other Bond film, which I would make for Die Another Day. And I'm still slightly offended by Q's disrespect to Goldeneye. HOWEVER, there is simply no denying how well-crafted this film is as a movie. The film itself is also very bondian and hearing certain quips by Craig, it was very sophisticated but entertaining as well. Many of the arcs were a lot of fun like when Bond calls in backup through the radio, or the courtroom scene wear Newman's score is breathing 007 as Craig rushes to the courthouse; it's all very rich in significance, and along with the meaning of this film and all of it's themes, Mendes weaves it together all in time for the finale. Personally, I still don't enjoy this finale as much as Spectre, because I preferred the courtroom scene. Though, the final arc matches with the movie was leading up to and it makes sense. So while both Skyfall and Spectre make for great bond movies, I still think Spectre is a better Bond Film, while Skyfall is the better film and simply a good movie in general.

Great review, thanks for this. My favorite emotional moment is Ms last words as she was dying looking with fondness at Bond “At least I got one thing right” believing in Bond

I have to admit, I was pretty happy when the DB5 showed up and the original Bond theme music started playing.

I don't get that, how can the DB5 make someone happy, it is destroying the movie. If Sean Connery had appeared in the movie and said to Craigs Bond "I'm the real James Bond" would that have also made you happy?

Skyfall was the second bond film I saw in theatres and I was in grade 9 and I was blown away. It was one of the best films I’ve ever seen. I still find Casino Royale a little bit better but Skyfall is definitely the runner up the story was just amazing, especially since we got to know more about our hero when he was younger where he grew up not to mention the bad guy in this film it’s just amazing, also this film had a strong connection to me because my favourite actor to play m Judy Dench dies at the end and I was a little sad. What a great film. Don’t get me wrong I like really our current M, but Judy Dench will always be my M. Also, Sir Sam Mendez was an amazing Director. He did an amazing job on this film.

Great Video man but you're missing one HUGE point: Skyfall is about Tradition VS Modernity and transition between these 2 wolds. - M speech is NOT about Bond but about NEW WAYS of war ( terrorism/ Idea of progress/ Exploration to a better futur/ Difficulties to fight against terrorism)which - 007 Service is a relics of the Cold War and transition between Ms reflects that. - Back to basics with NO modern gadgets. Today were fighting agains ideas/ extremism. Not against URSS/ Nuclear weapons etc.... - MI-6 HQ is destroyed ( relic of the Cold War) -> Symbol/ No one is safe/ 09-11 - Cars : jaguar VS aston Martin - "The Fighting temeraire" painted by Turner in the National Gallery... ETC.... This Bond movie is not just a bond movie. They are soooo many timeless ideas about modernity/Tradition/ Transition from one world to an other that it makes this movie a master piece and a reflexion on our world even 10 years after.
