In her daily monologue, Rachel Nichols of The Jump recaps the Manu Ginobili jersey retirement ceremony with the San Antonio Spurs, which featured speeches from Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Gregg Popovich, and recalled how the four-time NBA champion, two-time NBA All-Star, Olympic gold medalist with Argentina, a surefire Hall of Famer, was never supposed to be this good.

As a Lakers Fan I have to say that Manu was my most hated player... You know how everyone has a player they dislike because they beat their team and not because of their personality.... Manu was that guy for me. I respected his game more than Timmy(and that's saying something) because when watching those games it felt like Manu was the heart and Soul. Pop was the Brain, Timmy was the Spine-Back-Shoulders, Bowen was the Guts, Tony was the Legs and the bench was the Arms & Joints... Thank you Manu for playing the way you did, even against my Lakers..... You'll favourite be My Most Hated Player(That I secretly love)...

As a Rockets fan, I am supposed to hate the Spurs. I am supposed to hate the Big 3 from the rival team in my state. I’m supposed to hate Manu Ginoblili. But how the Hell do you hate Manu? The man was as talented as they got. He would have been the star on any team in the league. But he knew what he had in San Antonio. He knew that the situation there lead to greatness as long as he played his part. When his part meant that he was the best player in the league to come off the bench, he provided that spark. As a Rockets fan, I’m supposed to hate Manu Ginobili. But he deserves this honor and so much more. It was an absolute privilege to watch this man play.

The Admiral is why I grew up a Spurs fan. Timmy continued in those huge shoes to fill, but it was Manu who stole my heart with how he played. Tough, grinder, clutch, non conventional..he brought 4 championships to San Antonio. He beat the USA in the olympics! Won a gold medal! Without question he could have had outrageous stats if he’d continued to be a starter. Sacrifice! For the team, he was ALWAYS there in crunch time. Manu, thank you so much for the memories and the will to win, the drive, the competitiveness, for EVERYTHING! As my man Charles Barkley says “Ginobli”!!!!!!!!!

Thank You Manu for the memories!!!

I feel like the US media rarely brings up the time manu lead his team to beat the US in the olympics, and that is definitely one of his biggest accomplishments. Is the US still embarrassed about that? It’s really embarrassing with so many pros in the USA team, losing to the great manu but common it’s been so long. I guess the USA is still ashamed of that lost, that’s y the US media rarely brings it up

Manu is one of the most efficient perimeter player in NBA history (before analytics and how all stats blows up after 2010s) Manu's 52% effective field goal percentage is higher than MJ (50%). Kobe (48%). AI (45%). Melo (48%). Larry Bird (51%). Of course after 2010s, stats just kinda exploded with KD, curry, harden and such. But before this era Manu is one of the most efficient

I remember when Manu played with a broken arm against the Grizzlies. I think the Spurs would have won more championships had he not gotten injured so many times.

Manu makes big plays and had big balls that he can afford to give away the other and still be as ruthless as ever.

I hated Manu's game with a passion back then, and yet im the first to say he deserves all the respect, love and accolades the game can give. Most people wouldn't loose a left nut for a family member! Hats off to the man.

No player's jersey # retirement is ever a lock. I mean, OKC won't even consider retiring KD's unless he goes back. The Lakers likely won't retire LeBron's number just cause he played there. He would have to make some noise, which would be hard considering he's entering the twilight years of his career. Hell, Minnesota still hasn't retired KG's number, even though he played there for 13 1/2 seasons and gave them his all!

To be fair, KG won't retire his number unless Glen Taylor sells the team.

OKC hella petty if that's true; he's THE reason they're relevant. You CANNOT tell the story of the Thunder (or the NBA) without him. Miami will likely be forced into retiring "6" (Bosh stayed but 4 years is hardly banner worthy (despite MVPs)) but I doubt they're overly eager to... but OKC *is* KD (& Russ and yes, Nick Collison).
