Love that metal guitar on the big downhill. All else aside, it's clear you have the best background music- even if it's really foreground music! Can't wait til I get a trike so I can hit the backroads all day.

Really enjoying your videos. I feel I'm riding the bike myself and am along with you guys for the ride. Your music selection is awesome too. Overall, what a fantastic job you've done! I'm in the midst of researching various recumbents over here in VA. Pretty close to making my selection within a few months. Until then, I'll vicariously live through you all! :)

Thanks for the comment. I hope to get back to adding new videos soon... kinda took a year off of creating videos (still riding) but hope to get back to it soon. In the meantime enjoy some of my previous videos and good luck in your pending purchase. any idea what you have your choice narrowed down to? (Make / Model)?

@@TrikeSquadron Thanks much for replying and your interest in my choices! Looking forward to your new videos when you're ready to jump back into it. I can only imagine how much time and effort that must take, especially when trying to fit it in with your riding. Your hard work is most appreciated. :) I've been perusing the Utah Trike online catalog almost daily and have worked up multiple configurations between various models. At first, I narrowed my choices down to a Greenspeed Magnum and a HP Velotechnik Scorpion FS 20. I realize that both are like comparing a Hummer to a Lamborghini. :D Then I'm thinking about ditching the fully suspended Scorpion and going with a fat tire trike like Sun Seeker Fat Tad CSX with a Bafang 750w motor. Ultimately, I'd like to walk my 85 pound Bouvier dog with me via the harness by Dog Powered Scooter. I've been researching a lot of that as well. He and I currently walk at least three miles a day and thought it would be cool for him to "push" me around the neighborhood on the trike. That being said, I realize my tastes are all over the place, thus my reason for patiently waiting and narrowing it down. Thanks again!

Thanks... yeah Scott does the rides we do with half the leg muscles we do! He recently got that rear electric assist wheel so he can make better time and keep up with us better, but he still is working hard, the electric assist does not do it all!

Glad to hear that. On some of those LOOONG downhill clips I wonder if my viewers get bored. I always consider cutting it up into a few different smaller segments to make it shorter, but then I also think some of them should stay as one long continuous video clip.

@TrikeSquadron
@TrikeSquadron 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks... I have used some GPS overlay and some MPH indicators in a few videos but 1 I hate messing with it and two I think it is kinda a distraction from the video in my humble opinion. Speeds obviously range depending on the uphill and downhills... but average on this was 10.5mi/h (including stops) and 35.3mi/h max on the downhills

Hey. Are you guys still riding down there. I was wondering about the condition of the trails with the homeless population growing down there in California. Has it had much impact on the bike trails down there? I'm planning for some recumbent tricycle back-triking trips for this summer. Going to start with some short ones to Sequim Bay State Park and Fort Warden in Port Townsend and work my way up from there. Take care.
@TrikeSquadron
@TrikeSquadron 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, we are. They evicted all the homeless encampments along the SART some years ago now, there are still scatted instances around on the SGRT but yes... I also think much of the national news coverage of the homeless issues show specific locations and make it sound like it is everywhere... much like how fire and earthquake news makes it sound like the whole state is in danger. Sounds like a fun trip... enjoy David!

Still riding every weekend, just kinda set a side the video making for other things. They (mostly) cleared out the homeless problem along the trails (and least the hug settlements that we had years ago) so iti s not such and issue.

Hi Gary, it took me a while to remember which video it was. It is at the end of this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qst8jLqGuLDOd3U.html This is a pretty old video and I believe his current versions of the ramps are a lot nicer and longer for a less steep roll-up. His website is also here: easyloadrampsystem.com

Great video I am wondering the model's of the trikes and approx ages of rider's I have a Green speed getting a little old for those Hill's Iam more suited for the Strand ! Don't have the guts for your ride.
@TrikeSquadron
@TrikeSquadron 6 жыл бұрын
The trikes are various models of Catrike (Road, Expedition, 5.5.9) and One ICE VTX. The 5.5.9 and one of the Expeditions have electric assist units. Oldest rider was on the 5.5.9 - honestly not sure of his age but he is older than me - I am 52 - the others are younger than me - so probably our average ages are near 50. Good to hear you are riding.. doesn't matter if you are on the strand or in the hills... it is great fun and great exercise!

Glenn, quick question for you, I basically have the same set as you, running equal size 20" tires all around and I see that you have no issues pacing with the guys running the 26" in the rear. Does the 26" make that much of a difference speed wise or does it simply come down to the human power plant pushing the trike? BTW, I called the company you recommended for the flag, had my custom made flag in a week! Thanks sir!
@TrikeSquadron
@TrikeSquadron 6 жыл бұрын
It's good to hear they are still making flags! Regarding Size of the rear wheel... it mostly equates to your over-all Gear Ratio or "Gear Inches": how much you turn the pedal for how far the trike moves. So, two trikes with identical size Front Rings and Identical rear cogs in the cassette, and the same pilot pedaling: the trike with the larger rear wheel would have a faster top speed (higher gear ratio) but only if the pilot can turn the pedals in the same gear as the 20" wheel pilot. Conversely, the 20" trike will technically have a lower gear ratio and thus have an advantage in climbing, again, with the caveat that you don't always have to be in your lowest gear to climb a hill. So, using different gears both will likely climb the same hill at the same speed in different gears to compensate for the different size wheel. Plus, like you said, people of different fitness and strength levels throw another variable into the mix. ANNNNND.... you can also buy different size (more or less teeth) front rings for your trike, and different number of rear cogs in the cassette, to also adjust low and high ends of you gear inch range. End conclusion: Personally I don't think it makes a lot of difference, and any differences can be compensated for with different gearing. I think it comes down to personal preference and what you mostly do... climb hills, go fast on flat land, or just want an overall do-all trike. There are also practical considerations: if you are TOURING self supported and need to carry spare tubes and tires, 20" only might be easier than two sizes. But also, 20" tubes and tires are harder to find everywhere so finding a larger conventional size tire and tube could be easier o find in local stores. so really the choice is up to you! :-)

Thanks for such an in depth response. I did not consider the gearing but that makes perfect sense. Appreciate your insight.

Understandable, life does take over at most unexpected times. With with very unexpected situations. I too have been dealing with some challenges as of late. I'm back to rebuilding my physical strength, so that I can return to cycling again. Since I was hit again last year. So, everything in time and may things improve for you soon. Keep moving forward with confidence and you'll find a way through the challenges.
