I put a glass reed switch by the Bell in the telephone and connected a time-delay relay to my stereo with 2 cassette recorders of my stereo. It answered the phone instantly and the play tape would automatically dial time and temperature before rewinding and this stereo shut off and hung up. The first tournament it turned on was my friend's phone number, the alarm was set for the appropriate time for her to go to work and she paid my Mountain Bell telephone bill for the service. I had a pioneer p l 1000 tangible tonearm record player. It was so awesome my sister and her friend stole everything that I brought home from Germany including my electric blanket in 1983. I bought all the parts at RadioShack before they turned into a store focused on cell phones and batteries.

Why not a hall sensor?
@GandalfTheWise0002
@GandalfTheWise0002 10 ай бұрын
I used to work for a company that made reed switches. Cool demo here. One potential problem for actual usage is longevity. Reed switches are rated for a particular number of operations that depends on current and voltage being switched. 5000 RPM x 4 operations per revolution will run through the lifetime pretty quickly. The reed surfaces are usually plated in some manner to produce good switching characteristics, with a little bit of the surface being arc'ed off with each open and close cycle. A rough estimate for this configuration would be perhaps a half million to 2 million operations before the contact resistance might get very high or the surfaces would get to the point where pits, craters, and debris might short across.

Unfortunately, the balance on the radius was not done. I naively thought that magnets were ideal in weight, but this is not so. In addition, their placement is also far from perfect, it's handmade, without any machines. If I had made an imbalance along the radius, the effect would have been much higher.

@grain8314
@grain8314 Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is no wobble, but there is an imbalance of the disk along the radius. I would achieve more speed and less noise if I did at least a little work on it. The magnets are not ideal in terms of weight and placement, I didn't take this into account and they are on the edge of the disk. Now I understand this after I corrected the imbalance of my grindstone and completely removed its vibration. Video here - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJmWicqU29PJqGg.html

Add an output pulley to your Neodymium reed switch motor, to twist a brushed DC motor (as generator) wire it so the generator charges a capacitor. Draw off the capacitor to supply voltage to your Neodymium reed switch motor. Charge the capacitor before setting up the experiment and see how long the motor winds using the capacitor as a supply voltage. It is important that the generator NOT have Neodymium magnets. They must have a weaker magnetic field.

Thanks, but my motor is actually making a lot of noise because I didn't balance the rotor. The shapes of the cutouts for the magnets are not ideally made by hand, but the magnets give more imbalance, their weight is also not equal. Do you think DC motor inverter fan really saves power or is a gimmick?
@heinzpg
@heinzpg Жыл бұрын
@@dinozaurpickupline4221 Vendors say that power consumption drops to 70%. This might be a bit overrated, but power savings are real. Modern brushless DC motors are more efficient than one-phase AC motors, and this outweighs the small losses of the AC/DC conversion. Also speed regulation is simpler and more effective with DC motors. That's why DC motor driven fans have more steps for the speed. A power comparison should be possible by looking at the technical specifications, but I never delved in this myself, I don't live in a hot country. 🙂

@grain8314
@grain8314 2 ай бұрын
In this motor design, all magnets and all coils point in the same direction. In this case, electromagnets can work both at attraction and repulsion. The only advice (I didn't do this) is to balance the disk after attaching the magnets. To do this, you need to easily fix the disk on the axle so that it rotates freely and then pick up the weights on the lighter part. First, select the desired counterweight with plasticine, then weigh the plasticine and replace it with a screw, bolt or other of the same weight. And place it in the hole of the disk in the same place where the plasticine was. I hope I explained clearly (I am writing through a translator). This way you can greatly reduce vibration and increase rotation speed.

Won't the reed switch generate sparks and therefore corrode the contacts, on the long run? A better option would be an electromagnetic switch (coil + transistor). You can see this setup in several electromagnetic spinning tops.

Did you get it working yet Taiye? If not, I would try removing the rotor, then at lower voltage, activate the coils and hold a magnet up to each coil individually to see if they both attract or both repel the magnet. It could be as simple as reversing the wires on one of the coils. Also, the alignment of the magnets on the rotor need to be as close as possible to being equally divided up around the rotor, with each magnet having the same polarity facing outward. The positioning of the reed switch is also fairly critical. I also would like to build one of these but lack only the magnet wire. I really like this channel. He is very talented and makes this look easy. You will get it working if not already. Let me know what you find was wrong. It might help me if I decide to build it. One other thing, if you get it working be extremely careful at these high speeds on a homemade motor. The magnets could fly off and cause an injury.

Why can't the coil be placed in the middle of the diameter by increasing its size and place the magnets on the inner as well as outer sides of the wheel. Thus the coil frequency from the other side will be utilized which would otherwise be wasted.
