Today dog owners are more confused than ever with all the information on the internet Tools and punishment will never do what a strong bond and relationship between human and dog can provide

Larry, thanks so much for this message. I am working with a young dog, and as with every new relationship there are difficulties in learning one another's quirks. Your heartfelt thoughts showed up at specifically the right time for us.

I had a funny conflict today at the dog park: I have an in-tact 13 month lab/pit mix Male who does great with dogs of all kinds and people. He is also off leash trained, thanks to your book and knowledge. There were dozens of dogs throughout the 3 hours we hungout there and Ben did great. Eventually there was an owner with a small mixed male dog that was neutered, Ben loves to meet dogs but the small neutered Male kept challenging Ben and tried to start fights and Ben has good nerves and would just leave the area. The wild thing is, the owner had the AUDACITY to tell me I need to neuter my boy so he won't have to have any issues with neutered males. Isn't that comical? I wasn't having it and said, I'm not going to alter my boy because of YOUR dog's issues.

Geeez! I have been tiptoeing around Larry's stuff. Not much impresses me anymore, BUT this man does things differently when it comes to his training style and his care of the animals and drive to ensure that everyone is compatible in the end. Everything takes patience and calm and maybe someone to help watch what you are doing to correct what isn't working. I am impressed and Rusty and I will keep going forward in our efforts.

THough, that s pretty much it, we can just find them they don t have extensive material available online like larry has here, so... it s pretty much useless unless we would directly come in contact with them. With all the praise Larry was giving them i would have thought i could find something to read or watch from them so i can learn. but yea..

I agree, the relationship is the foundation of a balanced dog. So many owners struggle with their dogs due to an improper foundational relationship. Probably, 90% of my clients issues are caused by a poor relationship (foundation).

Sorry- it isn’t fine to inflict pain- BUT I am trying the relationship based training. My boy has some serious anxiety/stressor issues. He does nip me pretty hard when a loud motorcycle or car scares him- I have never inflicted pain on him even with those things. There has been lots of improvements but it takes time & patience. I just don’t think ppl need a dog if they feel inflicting pain is the way to develop a dog in doing the correct behavior all of the time. Thank you - you are not toxic & only praised the ppl you see with the results we all want to see! I wish I had trainers in my area that wasn’t about inflicting pain.

I hear ya Larry, but the problem people have is they do not know how to bring out the best in their dogs. I appreciate and value what you are saying here, but its just too general for dog owners to apply. I'll use myself as an example here: I have an active intact female Doberman 2yr old. Loves to play play play, over stimulated with the environment. I take her for vigorous 8-12km walk on the beach, or in forest environments every day rain, snow, or shine. She has energy to burn and is all over the place scenting, playing with other dogs. Out in the world with other dogs around, horses on the beach, birds on the beach, you get the idea....she is not overly interested in play with me. So how do you bring out the best when your dog is more interested in everything but you. I still need to exercise her every day, so exclusively working in low stimulation areas to build the relationship is not an option. This girl needs to exercise a lot. I would say that this is a common issue for people struggling with relationship issues. I'm sorry for the long post, it is just more complex than your video portrays. I love all your work and enjoying watching you play with new dogs.

Thank you. Michael Ellis does the same thing. "If you can't get your puppy's attention, then you need to move back to a less challenging environment." "It's important not to let your puppy practice unwanted behaviours." Good rules to keep in mind, but we still need to walk our dogs for several hours every day in the real world!

Just from reading your issue, I would tend to think your not engaging in enough mental stimulation. You need to do a combination of physical and mental. And as the person in this answer thread. You need to reduce the environment and really focus on creating a bond to where the only thing in the world that matters is you and nobody or nothing else. This requires consistency, patience and always changing the mental part up also.

Thanks for the videos Larry. Help me please. My new GSD puppy is doing well 9th day together, 3mths old, bonding well however my other dog (nearly 5) of a different intelligent breed is making things so difficult in training the nw one, partly because she's so jealous of me loving the new puppy who's a girl too. I was calling my puppy to come inside a few times after telling the older dog to stay on her bed outside, as soon as the puppy came near to come in the other dog comes and wants to beat her in, I got cross and shout no and then it scared the puppy. Also the puppy has messed inside a few times which upset me and my reaction has scared the puppy and made her fearful of me, it just makes things so hard. On the most part she's not bad and is in a crate inside at night so she wont mess but she's nearly outgrown it. I know she's very infant in the mind and sensitive to my reactions when she's don wrong. I'm just concerned as I want the best for her development and I don't want to make any mistakes that make things harder and interfere with the bonding. This would not be so hard if I just only had my puppy. What should you do if the dog messes inside or on the porch, I take them and show the mess and say no ut ar. 90% of the time she's doing it when I take her out and I always praise her with lots of high happy tones and head strokes, good girl w/her name about 3-4 times. Thanks for your help addressing this early bonding and training a GSD, when other dog is present and jealous. Thanks for the great chanel
