I use the Irwin "Bolt Out" sets. They also have deep sockets for removing nuts from long studs (I'm sure Snap On does too). The Irwin sets are priced under $50 each and have never failed me. They're also much easier to find than Snap On.

Hi Jesse at GearHeads: Thanks so much for the very useful and informative instructional video on using a twist socket set. Last night I went to replace the mower blades on a pre-owned John Deere L100 lawn tractor. Two blades utilizing four bolts. With a little effort the first blade came off, but the two bolts holding the second blade will not budge, even when I sprayed in white-lithium grease. Then one of the bolts started rounding off. So tomorrow, Saturday, I'm headed to a local tool store to buy me a twist socket set. Again, thanks for sharing your know-how and experience with us amateur mechanics. Jeff in rural Aylett, Virginia.

Great Video is very honest and real! Living in Ontario We encounter rusted fasteners all the time Some of them have never been touched but are completely eroded away! A video suggestion for you would be to build on this content with a video on all the options for rusted fasteners especially exhaust. We have accumulated a great collection we have the twist sockets shallow and deep up to 1/2 dr a shorty craftsman socket set that works in confined space, a set of twist wrenches, and fit it goes sideways left-hand drills, Alden drill outs, and regular extractors Your right about the comment about forgetting about them until you need it and we made these a shop purchase so we could buy them all. Like you, even with shop purchases, we are very careful to get the best tool for the money and don't shop on the truck very often However your comment about replacing dull sockets on warranty got my attention! Sorry to make this so long I really enjoy your work and am new to your channel keep up the good work! Thanks, Ps Those induction bolt heaters look very effective still need the twist sockets but why not get them ready to come out if you can! On our never-ending list of tools to buy! Thanks Jeff

SnapOn also makes the best Fitting wrenches for working on hydraulic, fuel, etc.lines. Have cracked loose the most stubborn fittings using this brand and never rounded a fitting. The high price is a factor but is outweighed by time saved..not to mention knuckles. Good vid on your "spiral friends". Best to you and yours.

@treeguyable
@treeguyable 4 жыл бұрын
@@isaacc3307 Well, not often, but in a tight spot, too much degree movement with a ratchet, only a t handle or breaker bar will work to get some motion, and a 6 point doesn't even allow enough rotation to accomodate putting it at the right angle. Like I say , very rare, but after 45 yrs of wrenching, yea ran into this plenty of times.

So I used a set like this to get some stripped lugs off of my Wrangler...worked great, only problem is with the last two lugs. I used the provided punch tool to remove the nut from the socket, and it got lodged in the nut. I was able to get it off the socket, and removed the last stripped lug. Tried the other end of the punch tool to remove the nut from the socket, and THAT end got lodged. So now I have what looks like a stripped lug, with a punched lodged into it, followed by the 3/4" socket, and the other lug nut on that end. It's one big mess and I have no idea how to dislodge the nuts from the punch tool lol.

I have a propane tank that is leaking around the capacity gauge. The 4 screws holding it in are seized or rusted. They are made to use only a flat screwdriver to turn them. I have used PB blaster on them and Kroil oil. Still not budging as it may not be finding its way up under the screw well enough. Found where I might can heat them one at a time with a soldering iron---can't use any other type of heat with it leaking right there. Haven't tried that yet. So in desperation I will try this technique....see if they get even the tiniest bite and can slowly start turning them out of there. Never heard of these and just happen to run across your video. What a great thing. Jesus bless. Any other suggestions from you or anyone else is welcome. Thanks.

Hey! If you cant get it bled you likely still have a leak somewhere, the 4.0's dont usually take much to burp so I'd suspect an issue. We just did a video on using a Coolant Pressure tester, I would use one of those to test your system first and make sure no more leaks, and if it passes and you still cant burp it you should try a vacuum filler. You do need air and a compressor but they work fantastic for filling cooling systems without having to bleed later, I will be doing a video on mine and showing how to use it soon

Have you ever used these on a stud? Got some broken exhaust manifold bolts on my GMC truck plus several rounded bolt heads. (Did see you talked about bolt heads broken off)
@GearHeadsGarageChannel
@GearHeadsGarageChannel 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have used them on studs as well you would need a smaller set though. Usually if the stud is sticking out though I will soak it with WD-40 and heat it up and use vice grips. Take the manifold off and you should have enough room to work with.

@@GearHeadsGarageChannel thank you. The manifold is already off and now I have around 1/4 inch nubs of the broken bolts to remove. I'm really hoping that the remaining bolts do not break off flush with the head.

It's good you gave the item code because the link in your description doesn't go there. Also, $358 is a lot of money!

If the original size of an oil drain plug was 10 mm, and got rounded off, what size extractor head would you use? Is there a size 9 or 8 mm?
