Removing seized barrel nut on an AR-15 upper

If you are wanting to reuse the original barrel nut you are taking off then this video is NOT for you!
After two days of scratching my head, using a torch and a 2’ breaker bar on an armorers wrench, I finally found a solution. This video was taken after I finally broke torque. However, with this method it only took two light taps on the end of the pipe wrench to break free with my 2.5lb sledge. The upper is mounted on a Magpul Bev Block and the bev block is clamped in the vise. I had a new barrel nut for the new rail so I wasn’t trying to salvage the old one. This is just an idea for you at-home folks running out of ideas.

4 years later this video is still great, wasn't sure if I could just cut off the delta ring without Fn anything up, thank you!

This is one of the reasons why I stop buying complete uppers. The ones who assembled the uppers I’ve purchased were always torqued to all hell without anti seize compound. Making disassembly a pain the rear when trying to swap out parts. If you can learn the craft and built it yourself. Cheers.

I just bought a used ar 10 at a great price and was gonna rebuild the upper. Like you said everything was over torqued had to just about cut it up with a grinder to get it apart

Ur a life saver. I had to use a bench grinder and a pair of vice grips to stop it from rotating but it ended a week long struggle

Thanks for the idea...My barrel was so tight...I pulled the vise out of the cdx plywood tabletop...relocated went and got some lag bolts and a monkey wrench with a 3 foot section of galvanized fence pole to pry it off.

Yep agreed. Cheater pipe and a hammer works good. Just tapping and watching as u go

I’m surprised you didn’t crack your upper when the barrel alignment pin inserts. Should have tried heat and used the Geissele Reaction Rod or similar to hold it.

Midwest MI-URR - MI Upper Receiver Rod is best. The sail will prevent the barrel extension from loosening and or breaking the barrel extension index pin....

Yeah I wasn't planning on reusing either the delta ring or the barrel nut.

I had a stock barrel nut that I reefed on for a while... then I stuck the whole receiver assembly in the freezer for 4 hours and the barrel nut came off by hand when I took it out
