As a heating engineer with 40 years experience,I hate Worcester products with a passion.Its a damn shame they are so popular as I hate working on the piles of shit.
@dazl79544 жыл бұрын
i am sure they hate you too..... with a passion :P let me guess, you are a Biasi or Saunier Duval kinda engineer, as with 40yrs of experience, i bet you don't like change... you want the case to fall off, and all parts removable with one tool... times change, so do boilers, its a fine balance of what the Customer wants at the end of the day :P

Over the last 18 years fitted many Worcester Boilers they have always given my customers good service and when anything goes wrong I send the service department out straight away sorted. it's all about knowledge really the training is first class however like in life if you don't really know what you doing you will get punished like The Dope l heard about that went to change a prv on a junior spent 6 hours there . Went out crying their a piece of shit was that you sir. If you had invested 1 day getting to know your nemis it would probably have profited you. Still after 40 years isn't it time to give it a rest let the younger guys have a go.

I with no experience except buying a CDi35 22 years ago which has had a hard life including filling a 16x4 circular swimming pool every year for 20 years and washing the cars from the hot tap and the Ba***rd thing just failed for the first time; sludge in the heat exchanger I am told! So I have to agree piece of s**t!

Who thought of putting the pressure relief valve at the back, Excellent Job of replacing it
@buxvan6 жыл бұрын
Excellent, I'll be doing it your way from now on when doing the PRV. much less hastle than taking out the whole hydraulics assembly. I like clever people like you. Cheers

This is exactly the reason I do not recommend nor install Worcester Bosch. With a Vaillant, the same job takes ten mins = less time, less charge to customer. Have just done one on a *astard Greenstar 28i and the plastic cowl would not lower, as it had jammed in place with scale. I could not force it for fear of snapping it, so this took even more time. Easiest way is to isolate cold water feed on boiler, drain DHW circuit and cut the DHW pipe a few inches below the boiler, or however much you need for your arm and hand. Unscrew the horizontal compression nut, and remove this section of pipe, using a 15mm compression couple to reattach. My hands are huge and I’ve Popeye forearms, but still manage. If things go your way, 30 to 45 mins.

Great video, I have one to do this week, only comment I have is that I would use my wet and dry vacuum and use the bin liner over the pcb housing, also I always re pressurise the PV to get rid of anything in while draining, those things can hold a lot of water.

Buddy, this really helped me today. Many thanks!!

Thank you for this video. Only problem I encountered was the pipes run up the back of my boiler which means there is no room to take the exchanger back to get it out. You can however loosen the right hand pipework mount to bring it forward enough to lift the right hand side of the exchanger out if the way to get at the pressure relief valve.

Good video, but if only worcester had put prv like other companies in a more accessible place we wouldn't have this bother.

boola69 well that was the longest PRV change in history! Clearly didn't know what he was doing!
@dazl79544 жыл бұрын
@@Stillbusy105 a prv can be done in under 45 mins :) and if someone took that amount of time to change one, either he was incompetent or time wasting for more £££

At about 2.40 you made taking out the prv clip look easy.
@josenat12923 жыл бұрын
yes, I tried pulling with pliers and still to tight. just need to pull the clip downwards with fingers, then you can get it out, one post here mentions you then have a slide connector, you pull the connector down to remove prv. I will try that and hopefuly without even opening the boiler. But heat exchange above PVR may stop you lifting the PVR up and out.?
@johnbutler79013 жыл бұрын
taking the clip out is easy, it's putting it back in that's a brasstard
@jrice6103 жыл бұрын
Worcester reliable - YES. Easy to work on - NO. All PRV's fail but why make it a nightmare to replace. Also I found removing the whole hydraulic assembly quicker to change the PRV. Same situation with the idiotic plastic filling loop from the CDI's onwards, why did nobody in W/B work out how shit the design was until 20 years or more had passed. Just like Vaillant/Glowworm pressure switches & leaking diverter valves; why don't they learn from their mistakes. Great video and keep them coming.

Plastic hydrolic section piss out water. Burner seals leak, poor access to prv , expansion vessel at back. Worcester redesign your boilers.
@dazl79544 жыл бұрын
composite hydraulic assy, Burner seals should be changed every 3 to 4 years ideally (only leak through poor servicing and maintenance tbh) other boilers has ex vessels at the back :)
@milkyporridge59294 жыл бұрын
Brilliant video. But all you actually need to do is cut the hot water pipe out of the way and use two screws to remove.
@geoffreyneedstraining58566 жыл бұрын
HI Luke when you have remove the clip that hold the prv in place you will need to pull the p r v out of its housing hey can be stiff the prv sit in a slide connector you pull the connector down to remove prv

Good video mate, must agree with other comments on how these boilers are trash. You will pay for the name and the boiler is full of plastic, can’t imagine the mark up on these. Also instead of making the flow turbine into a decent design they just chucked a green rubber jacket over the motor instead of making it so it doesn’t leak so easily!

Frustration of trying to line the cover screws up as well. Overengineeed crap. Impossibly tight areas to work and no thought for the engineers working on them. I hate all their boilers.

well in, I've got a hot water running cold then hot on WB greenstar 24i. when I started the job I was told by the woman hot water on when on or off. I thought diverter stuck mid position. so I had the cartridge out and it's rusted to death along with its housing so the customer advised to replace. the partner returns and says his prv is also dumping bucket loads. will his prv be connected his hot and cold problem or would you say it's the diverter unit and housing that's on the way ?

Hi Geoffrey, Can later model heat exchangers with more plates be retro fitted to earlier models? If so, are there any adverse effects? Thanks
@Skydiver10005 жыл бұрын
As other comments this fails when pipe work is run in the Worcester suggested position up behind the boiler. And you didn’t push the outlet back up onto the PRV so there will be a drip under the boiler next time it has to let water out.

Nice 👍

Do Have to do all that to just replace the PRV? I have a Worcester Bosch 42 Cdi
@kwaisanglee26 жыл бұрын
The pressure release valve holder ,the plastic thing,can move up or down to accommodate the PRV.You got to push it up to fit the PRV.
@jamesckemp6 жыл бұрын
Is there a specific technique to move it down?
@kwaisanglee26 жыл бұрын
There is a lever at the bottom of the holder ,try that one .
@jamesckemp6 жыл бұрын
Hmm, doesn't seem to budge at all for me. I wanted to see if I could remove and clean the PRV without having to go into the internals and remove other components. but it is proving tricky.
@kwaisanglee26 жыл бұрын
You can't take it out without taking the heat exchanger out.

Ah OK, thanks

Thank the gods now, on the new Worcester 8000 series the prv is at the front. Top bottom and sides come apart, colour coded parts inside for engineer. Slightly smaller and whisper quiet👍
@proteus14 жыл бұрын
Almost as good as Intergas. Intergas no diverter so never fails to supply hot water. Plate heat exchangers never fail neither.

Just take the boiler off the wall and fga

@nigelmitchell3514 жыл бұрын
Drill out the three pop rivets that fix the bracket for the plastic PRV outlet pipe and the pipe can be lowered away. The PRV can then be removed horizontally after fiddling with the clip.
@danedingaling4 жыл бұрын
You don’t even need to tackle rivets, let alone be using a drill to change a prv 😂😂 fuckinghell

Hi, Thanks for the excellent tutorial. I have managed to follow it throughout, but unfortunately I cannot remove the PRV at the end. It is unclear exactly what the mechanism for removal is. Could you clarify - thank you!!

the prv has a long plastic tab beneath the assembly, it locks in position, so look carefully at that and after pushing it to one side pull the tab down, leave down until new one fitted.. other similar boilers (WB) can be accessible without all this hassle

Yeah totally agree its an absolute killer. Worcester are great when they're working changing the PRV or descaling the plate heat exchanger is ridiculous.
@myopinion33983 жыл бұрын
Stupid design for a PRV. It should be written in regs that any safety device is immediately accessible for regular inspection. How long has it taken for side mounted expansion vessels to be the norm.
@goldfinchgoldfinch80205 жыл бұрын
I never recommend Worcester to my customer unless customer insist for it its crap boilers hard to install and hard to repair..

Great video. The PRV only needs replacing in rare cases so it's not Worcester's effort to make it more accessible. What matters is they've created a very reliable boiler that is respected within the industry.
@BrianTwo5 жыл бұрын
Once the PRV start leaking due to faulty exp vess, u have to replace it as the leak will carry on. Extremely bad design.
@gruhwch4876 Жыл бұрын
@@BrianTwoI don’t know why the retaining clip for the prv goes inside rather than outside. If you could release the clip from the side around 75% of replacements wouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes. There is someone at Worcester that likes making things difficult it seems. At Vaillant they make it easy, - which helps when every part lasts about 24 months.
