In 'Replacing the Hood on a John Deere X304 Lawn Tractor', I show step by step how to change out and install a new hood on this riding mower. This repair only required using one tool - a 10 MM socket and ratchet. The job is simple and anyone can do it. The cost of the authentic replacement hood was approximately $350 from the local John Deere dealership, which is a bit expensive but much less than a new mower. I was unable to find an aftermarket replacement part for this repair so I had to use original equipment parts from the dealer. This X304 model is a 4 wheel steer mower and quite expensive when new so it was well worth repairing. The total time to replace the hood was less than an hour from start to finish.

Excellent video!...thank you for pointing out that the front end of the air pienum bracket goes outside and NOT inside the hood....bless your heart!

I recommend waxing the plastic hood and other plastic parts to keep them protected from UV damage. And "Armor All" the black plastic/rubber parts.

Does anyone happen to know the part number of the small black shims or protectors that are on the hood where it closes against the instrument panel? I'm missing one on my 2014 x310. Thanks!

I guess they really didn't make the hoods very well on these models. I just inherited one and the hood is missing. It is a bit larger than the hood for most riding mowers too, so it is hard to find a used one. Strange that they would cheap out on the hood, considering that it is a pretty expensive model, and the rest of the mower seems to be built fairly beefy. The steering reminds me of driving a forklift for Sears back in the 90s.

I just paid $950 for x354 hood parts and absolutely no where to find instructions. Oh, the dealer said, be care snapping it together!!

@@ReturningtoBasics Your video is well done, but i was frustrated with minute 1:33 when you are loosening bolts and the camera is not showing where the bolts are.

@@lwalck8362 I was loosing the two bolts that hold the pivot bracket of the hood to the mower frame. You don't have to remove the 10 MM bolts, just loosen them and then you can lift the hood from the lawn tractor. I apologize that the camera was not positioned so you could see. Thank for the clarification and question.
