This took me a LOT longer and took two people to line up the front part but the rollers were a 5 min job and the belt was snug but went on just fine. Great video and really saved by bacon on paying out a nose for a new machine.

Good video. Kit I got came without instructions & I didn't know which washer went where for sure so thanks for mentioning that since that's what I needed. Second time replacing mine as well but well worth the time & money as I love my old Maytag set. I will keep repairing it as long as I possibly can.

For anyone with this dryer that finds it SQUEALING like a stuck pig, esp. right after turning on. Sometimes it last a few seconds, sometimes a few minutes - and gets worse over time. To fix the very loud SCREECHING noise (sounds like metal on metal) you only have to remove the front panel (door and panel - as he shows at 1:41 in the video). Then, with a good flashlight and moderately long arms, you can reach the rollers at the back (he kindly shows at 4:35). You need to lube the shafts/ axles those rollers spin on (the center of the roller). It's probably just one roller that's making noise, but it doesn't hurt to lube both. Use a good quality oil and it will last for dozens of cycles (months to a year). I use a hypodermic syringe/ needle and place just a tiny bit of oil between the shaft and the roller (the noise is likely coming from wear at the bearing washer at the rear or on the shaft; the oil will reach both areas). You can also use a good penetrating oil with one of those straw adapters to get the oil right where you want it (between the shaft and wheel - it migrates back to the rear). Just be careful not to get oil in places you don't want it. It doesn't take much at all, just a bit on the shaft. The whole job takes less than 10 minutes and Bob's Your Uncle. (And while you're there, if you've never opened it before, it's a good time to vac/ clean out the lint you'll invariably see). Thank you to onFIREouttakes for sharing this helpful video.

Heh nice vid ... I just cleaned and lubed my rollers... seems half better... new kit should be here in a couple days... I am working on an older Maytag GD4000 that I been keeping alive.. I actually really like working on it.

Was doing this myself and wondered if the rollers had to go one way or another, since they looked symmetrical. It seems that they can go on either way?

Replaced the belt, pulley and roller wheels and it still makes that noise. Will it do any harm to use the dryer in spite of the noise?

Did you make a follow-up video to replace the worn wear pads you used cork tape instead?

Don't add lubricant, grease or lithium white lubricant. It will dry out and gum up from the heat. It will seize the wheel on the shaft. WD 40 will wash it out if you run into that problem.

Feeding the belt on to the motor is easily done thru an access panel behind the dryer on mine. Maybe yours sis not have one.
